Hi Wendy,
first thing I'd like to say is your email address is so sad! But
I hope you can find some time for yourself too :) Welcome and thanks
for your help -- I'm especially thankful because I'm a veteran and
appreciate what ppl do for the military.
Cheers!,

Re: Soaring Prices at the Supermarket!
Recently someone reposted a news story about how grocery prices are
going to rise across the board to almost staggering levels. After
reading that I researched it myself and found hundreds of news reports
substantiating this story. I started to watch the prices at my local
supermarkets and sure enough almost everything has already gone up
between .40 to .80 per product. In fact I have found that my total
grocery bill has risen approximately 38 percent for the same products
and quantities that I purchased two months ago. So I took the previous
posters advice, I signed up for the sampler kit at
http://groceriesclub.com and I must tell you that it has helped like
nothing else. Just yesterday I was able to buy $175.98 worth of
groceries and other products and it only cost me $22.13 thanks to this
wonderful program! I am so excited and happy I can barely type. I plan
on giving out gift certificates to this program as well. This couldn't
have come at a better time.

Hi
Debbie,
My email wasn't meant to be sad, just dreadfully
honest...lol.I ususally find time to squeeze some time in for myself
somewhere, and being that crochet is the thing I enjoy the most on my
down time that is usually what I do for me...and if I can't be at home
(Dr.Appt or just traveling in the car)I grab my crochet bag and get a
few rounds/rows done on the go.Well enough about me....What branch of
the service were you apart of? My husband served in the Army for 7
years, and my dad served in the Navy(before my mom and dad married.)
So I really don't know much about the military other than some of the
funny stories my husband has told me about.I'm just Thankful willing
people like you are or have been faithful to step up to the plate and
serve to protect our country.Thank You for your service.Well I look
forward to hearing from you in the future,In the meantime have A GREAT
Day. Wendy

Hi! I am very excited to find this sight. I am a crocheter from Indiana
I would appreciate any info on where to send completed projects. I am
going to get started right away.... Thanks for a great website!
I know this may sound silly but I am creating a photo challege for
all in this group who are donating any item - not just afghans and/or
lapghans.
Here's the challenge:
Today I uploaded two lapghans pics. My challenge is that each person
take pics of their work and post here so that we can all see the
great work that is being done. Some may want to remain anonymous,
and that's OK! but, if you are working on something, or have just
finished a project, please snap a quick shot (or have someone else do
it and help you if you need it) and post in the photo album I have
created called "Donation Items"
If, for some reason, you are unable to post in that album, create
your own and put your pics in there.
I would LOVE to see the other work that is being done for this great
cause. I'm starting a new afghan today!
Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless,
Debbie

Hello Rugmaker -- welcome to the group! What have you decided to start
right away??? What are the colors? I just love crocheting and finding
new, cool, easy patterns that look great...check out the free patterns

I'm looking forward to my coupon books coming in the mail. When I
did a search for "scam" with the group that runs this offer, there
was NOTHING that showed up. I was thrilled...I did a very thorough
search too. So, I've ordered 2 books and waiting now to see how it
works.
Thanks so much for the link!

I am making a granny square afghan with huge squares. I am using cotton thread right now and the colors are shrimp and a spring meadow color that has greens, yellows, reds and white. I thought someone might like the cotton as opposed to the worsted thread. I also have Christmas colors and will begin a zigzag pattern with the Christmas colors. Maybe get them sent to PA before the holiday might be a nice gift for
someone.....
By the way my name is Karen and I have been a crocheter since I was 9 years old and am now 47 and disabled and not able to do much but this I can do and hope to brighten someones day. I have arthritis in my hands and have to take frequent breaks but I forge ahead. I really think this is a great charity and I have been searching for something like this for a while.
Thanks for the opportunity to give.

HI - I love the photo idea. I will look for one I took of a large afghan I crocheted for my former Division Manager as a wedding gift. I spent an entire summer creating squares for it. Once it was assembled, I displayed it on my sofa ... and immediately my cat Kristin laid down on the afghan and fell asleep. This was especially appropriate as my former supervisor gave Kristin to me; she was a kitten found by his children after a rain storm that sadly killed her mother. Ray made a point of showing the afghan to me in his newly renovated study.
Sometimes I forget to photograph an item I crochet, but with digital photography (that afghan dates back to 1979) it's so simple to do so and share the results.

OMG!! That's horrible! I'm so sorry abou that. If you have a
spyware program you should run it to make sure you didn't get any
viruses or spyware on your computer (I always do that when I'm taken
somewhere I don't want to go on the computer).
I will check the link out later and figure out what is wrong. I was
just there last night!

Hey Wendy -- I thought that might be it after others were able to get
on and I wasn't experiencing any problems. HOpe you got it all cleaned
up! Spyware is horrible. My husband owns his own computer repair biz
(Knight in Shining Armor Computer Repair -- cute, huh?? lol) and that's
the main call that he receives.
Were you finally able to get on the crochet site?

What a cool story, Peggy! Sadly, not for the kitten's mom, but cats
are so funny aren't they? I have a very fat cat and one of the
things that frustrates me is his hair getting on my projects. I
always wash the item when I'm done, but I never feel like this takes
care of the hair. would hate to give away something to someone
allergic to cats! If anyone has any help on this, I sure would
appreciate it!

Hello and Happy Belated Thanksgiving.
We are going way beyond our wildest dreams with this charity. Another
30 afgahns are now on their way to be delivered. As soon as my sister
figures out how to forward me the pics taken of the first batch
reaching Walter Reed I will post them. Since we really outdid
ourselves special permissiopn had to be given to take all these boxes
of afghans on post. I am so proud we all can show we care in some way.
I am not posting much because I am back in school at 51.It is
taking up alot of my time so I am working on getting a co-moderator to
keep things rolling along here.
Everyone keep up the good work. Mail those completed afghans and
squares out whenever you can. Please attach a tag with your name and
address on it if you are comfortable doing so. There are some that
want to thank the person but we have no way of knowing who made what.
Bless you all for all your help.
Roxanne
Hello Ladies,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
I thought I would post a little something about myself and why
I'm here...as well as why Roxanne chose me to be the co-moderator.
I am going to be 43 on the 10th of December. I have a fantastic
husband, 2 daughters (16 and 18) and a soon-to-be 21 year old son in
college. I've been married 11+ years and love it. Marriage is a
good thing when God is in control!
I live in South Dakota, but was born and raised in Buffalo, NY.
I love to mimic NYC folks, but I didn't live anywhere near there. I
just watch a LOT of Law & Order...lol. I'm from the Niagara Falls
part of the state.
I've lived in a few different states. When I was 20 I joined
the Navy and was stationed on Oahu, Hawaii -- I know, somebody had to
do it, right? lol. Then I was discharged in 1986 with a medical
discharge. I am now 100% service connected disabled and receive a
disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Anyway, after going back to NY, I married and moved to FLorida where
I lived in Ft. Myers for 6 years. Divorced, met my current (and
last) husband and moved to South Dakota. That's how I ended up here.
I don't work, but help my husband with his business by doing the
books and marketing. He is a computer repair guy :) I also help a
real estate agent in my town with her marketing, running errands,
newsletters...etc. The last thing that I do is write. I am an
author, hopefully soon to be published. The name of my book is The
Scapegoat's Revenge. I am in the editing state, with a wonderful
editor, who, hopefully, can help me get to a publisher. I'm so
excited!
I LOVE to crochet. I've been crocheting for 2 years and
my "teacher" said she had never met anyone who had learned so quick.
Thankfully I had knitted for a long time and was able to pick up
crochet very quickly. My crochet coach is 82 years old and we share
the same birthday! We are kindred spirits...she's a great person.
Because of my love to crochet, I have created many, many things
that have nowhere to go. So I decided to find some place that would
accept donations where I could relax, by crocheting, and still get
use out of my things. I was thrilled to find a group who donates to
veterans/soldiers. This is a small group and quiet, but I am hoping
to encourage interaction and build the group! I'm sure that is the
main reason why Roxanne chose me to co-moderate the group. I'm on
everyday, so if you have a question, post or email me and I'll try to
answer...if not, I'll email Roxanne and she can help me. I'm
learning and appreciate your patience!
Thanks to all for joining this group. You will feel blessed for
the work/fun you are doing!
God Bless,
Debbie Birdsall
