Hello! Welcome to the group :)
This group crochets or knits afghans for wounded soldiers who are in the Washington DC Army hospital. You can create any
afghan, lapghan, slippers or really anything that you would like to donate to brighten the lives of our wounded soldiers. There are both men and women at the hospital. Also, if crocheting a complete afghan is too much you can crochet squares and the ladies who are running this group will get them sewn together. The items are then taken to the hospital (after they have received quite a few) and distributed.
The addresses for shipping are included in this group postings just scroll through and you'll find them.
Thanks for joining! Debbie in South Dakota

Hello, my name is Michelle...I'll be 40 soon & I live in the Southern California high desert between San Bernardino and Barstow with hubby and 1 teen stepdaughter, 3 cats and 3 dogs. We also have a 20 year old daughter currently working at the dining hall at Forest Home Ministries here in Southern California and an 18-year old son who recently went into the Army and is slated to go on to school for military intelligence.
I consider myself a novice crocheter and I tend to go through spurts - either I really wanna do it or I'm really not into it. Right now I'm into it and am utilizing a generous freebie yarn share to get going on some charity projects. I already have some squares that are going to a blanket charity that takes 12" squares; but I felt I wanted to do more AND I was hoping to find something for the military families out there, which is how I ended up here :)
Thank you for having me ~ I posted some of my work in the photo album section of the group website & look forward to your shares and wisdom!
In Christ...

Just uploaded some new photos uploaded to my album through the group website.
I'm working a pattern from one of the labels included in the generous yarn donation. I halved the pattern to aim for a baby blanket instead of a full throw/blanket.
I was going to also try and start a Crochet by Numbers pattern that Todd Paschall of CBN sent me from a photo of my son's dog with some yarn I already had....but I don't understand how to read the pattern and his help hasn't been too helpful for my little brain, so I'm stumped and leaving that one on hold. If anyone's interested that site's URL is www.crochetbynumbers.com. Maybe someone else "gets" it!! LOL
Other than that just been busy helping hubby and staying refreshed in the toasty pool!

My step-daughter has been learning to crochet and she's enjoying making red, white & blue little ribbon pins. Would that be something that could be donated through this venue?
I also have a mini bag (a size for like a couple scrunchies or to keep some buttons or something like that), a short scarf and a dress potholder that I'm not sure what to do with. If those could be used/appreciated for this charity, too; I can include them when we send our other donations.
Thanks....

I wanted to let you all kno whow much I appreciate all you have done
and are still doing for this group. If you take a moment to look in the
files you will see that I have moved and therefore was away from this
group for a bit. I am all settled and even getting people here in my
new area involved.
I am hoping after Labor day to get some free patterns posted here
for everyone to have fun with. You all deserve it for all you do. Also
a reminder that the cooler weather is coming sooner then most of us
want but this is the time of year we need the afghans and squares the
most. Please keep them coming. If you just want to do squares make them
at least 6" square. You can send them to me and I will sew them
together to be delivered.
I hope everyone had a great summer and Bless You All for Your
Generousity.

Hi
My name is Joan I am a new member from Staten Island NY
I have had a crochet hook in my hand ever since I can remember.
What I am looking forward to is crocheting squares. I have found the
mailing address to send my squares too. However I need to know what
size as well as can I use any color.
Thank you for having me as a member

Aloha Soldiers Charity Sisters,
I am interested in donating crochet squared to our wounded/recovering
soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center. Im currently teaching a woman
at work (DOD Civilians) how to crochet, now others have come over to
join our crochet circle. More and more women at my job are starting
to admit to their closet crocheting skills. Im doing the best I can
to get them back in the swing! I recently seen an article in
Guidepost, Knit for Kids, and thought...how awesome! Except I only
know how to do squares.
One of our female Army Soldiers that works with us told us to
knit/crochet for the soldiers. What a great idea...then I looked up
some websites online and thought it would be beneficial to write a few
charities. Do you have another site that shows results or pictures of
these soldiers receiving all these heartfelt gifts? I want to know
more about this program.
Thank you for you time, I think its a wonderful charity.

hello ladies, my mother was looking for an organization like yours,
your summary seems to be the exact kind of thing she's looking for -
i'm a veteran and we understand the situation at walter reed. she
would like to donate crocheted afghans, she does nice flag afghans.
we live in northern baltimore county, basically in your area. what is
the way we go about this? thanks, dawn and her mom, pat
Hi I am Roxanne one of the sisters that began this organization. I tend to not have as much time to be online right now to keep up with everyone so hope the few days it took me to get back to you has not discouraged you.
The best way to do things right now is to make the afghans and mail them off to Lucinda at Lucinda's country crafts. I recently moved to Ohio and it is easier for our cousin to pick them up and deliver them from her shop. To date we have delivered more then 250 afghans and laprobes. They are so greatly appreciated. We will appreciate anything you do.
Thanks For Joining Us
