Good Morning All,

Several have recently expressed an interest in the original SoftRock-40 design that plugged into a PC USB socket to take DC power form the USB port.

Basically it would be the Lite II circuit, less the 5 volt regulator circuit. A USB-A plug would be on one end of the narrow board and the antenna and stereo audio connections would be on the other end of the board.

Would there be an interest in an updated version of that kit? If there is enough interest, I will give it a try.

Thanks and 73,
Tony KB9YIG

Good Morning All,

Additional Si570 devices shipped this morning to be followed later next week
with another shipment of Si570 devices. A good supply of circuit boards for the
RXTX Ensemble kit and the RX Ensemble II kit are presently in stock.

This evening additional RXTX Ensemble transceiver kits and RX Ensemble II
receiver kits will be offered on my website. Kits available on my website this
evening will start shipping early this coming week after pre-orders for these
two kits are filled.

Thanks for your interest in the kits.

I have completed building an Ensemble TXRX, and I am having trouble with software. I can use the CFGSR to communicate with it, and change the frequency of the oscillator, but HDSDR doesn't seem to be communicating with the Ensemble. When I launch HDSDR, I get an error message "Unable to locate component" "This application has failed to start because MSVCR71D.dll was not found". I did a search on my pc and found the mentioned dll, but I don't know why the application can't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Tom N7OEP

The 1/4" plugs are mono. You will probably need to make up cables. Tony did
offer a replacement for the breakout box but I think they are exhausted.

you'll need to do so.

Works well, however I plan to use my iMac and need a usb sound card interface.

A couple additional thoughts...

If a new SoftRock-40 kit is done, the design would mostly be SMT for resistors, capacitors, transistors, etc.  Probably the only non-SMT components would be the crystal, inductor and transformer.   (Inductor and transformer would continue to be user wound on toroid cores.)

A two foot long stereo audio cable would be included in the kit where the cable would have a 3.5mm plug on one end.  A two foot long length of coax cable would also be included in the kit.

Kit price would depend  on the number of crystals to be included but probably would be around $23 with crystals for 160m through 20m.

I'm looking for software that not only shows the "waterfall" like we get
with our normal SDR programs, but I'm looking for a way to display the
waterfall as an image over a specified period of time. In other words, I
could, at a glance in a waterfall chart form, see all signal activity
occurring at say 28.3 to 28.396 over the last 24 hours by looking at a
"cumulative waterfall". Is there any software anyone is using that can do
this?

I could probably write something to do this ;-)

Do you mean you want it to just keep writing the image data out to an
ever-growing file?

Seconded! I don't have the patience or enthusiasm to work on complicated,
fiddly through-hole parts, and I no longer have a big enough welding torch to
deal with the massive leads.

I believe the 'analysis' feature in SDR Radio Console by Simon Brown works like this... you can do a 'time lapse' sort of file and determine the length of time for data collection.

occurring at say 28.3 to 28.396 over the last 24 hours by looking at a
"cumulative waterfall". Is there any software anyone is using that can do
this?

Interesting, that's actually the program I'm using.  Without an official manual yet, it's been a lot of trial and error but it has potential.  I'll take a look.  Thanks.

If you are not a member of 'sdr-radio-com', Yahoo Group.. you might join and take a look at the archives there. Quite a bit of chatter was present about this feature some time ago.

Hello,

I have been building an Ensemble RX II. I am up to the bandpass filter section.
I have an IFR-1200S with a tracking generator and as a fun experiment I decided
to look at the filter shapes as I build them.

I put together band 0 (160m) and the lower and upper cutoff frequencies look
good. However, when I built band 1, I noticed it wasn't so hot. The upper
frequency is right at about 7.5 MHz, but the lower frequency starts attenuating
around 4MHz. By the time it gets to 3.5MHz, the loss is around 10dB.

I haven't actually tried finishing the receiver to see how this will affect the
performance, but have a feeling it wont be good.

One more thing I thought I would mention. I have been using an inductance meter
to measure the inductors before mounting them on the board and they tend to read
a little high. I have been removing one turn from almost all the inductors
before soldering them to the board. And yes I did this with some or all of the
160m band inductors as well.

I believe my inductance meter to be properly calibrated, but I'm starting to
wonder. What should the upper and lower 3dB points be for the band 1 bandpass
filter? -thanks.

SpectrumLab can periodically write the waterfall image to disk. I do this as
part of my meteor reflection monitoring setup.
It has many other neat features. For example, you can save images only if there
was activity (peak signal exceeded some threshold) and timestamp them.
