With SDR presumably this is best used with PDSR and VAC. It does not seem to
have an I/Q mode?
Like here http://www.yt1dl.x50.cc/sdr3.html and

Thankyou everyone for your comments.
The VSPE solution seems the best option, sadly it does'nt run on '98se but I
can't have everything can I :-)

IQ balance box. I've never gotten that to work well for me though.

I just received a jiffybag containing a couple of samples from Si Labs
of their new Si0104 chip. Haven't had a chance to do more than skim the
datasheet but I think they could be useful in simple direct-conversion
receivers.

Basically the Si0104 is a frequency-sensitive AND gate - you feed in an
"unknown" signal and a reference signal and if the two match the ref
signal appears at the output. One example is using it with one of the
Si570 DDSes to compare a wide range of frequencies. It's not a great
leap to see how you could make a very sharp CW direct conversion
receiver by sticking a tuned RF amp on one input, and modulating the
reference oscillator so you didn't have to be bang on the received
input. You'd then get the ref osc pulsing on the output at the rate you
modulated it - say, 700Hz for a nice CW tone - and none of the noise!

I'm looking forward to getting a chance to play with these. The Si0104
looks like a very useful wee part.

Digipan is fine and works OK with VAC.  But HRD/DM780 is vastly superior and also works well via VAC.

Hi Flemming,

You can check the datasheet, it specifies something between 6.0ns to 6.5ns on
the switching so it seems that it can go around 180MHz (/4 = 45MHz VFO)

Why do you ask others for something that you can find easily on your own?

Hi sv1eia

Datasheet is a god thing but it,s  not always that the data stays with in the specified field.

Eks. si570 cmos , says 160mhz but I have one there works very well on 250mhz .
I am  making some mods on the mobo 4,3 for the uhfsdr from wb6dhw . ( when it arrivals ) transformers ,Pa,ect .  The uhfsdr is finnish and works very well.

One linie to the mobo and one for 2m , but I hope that I can have 4m-6m runnning on the mobo . Maybee also 2m.

It,s good with some info from some one , there  have been playing with it in praxis !

Best regards Flemming / oz5agk

The typical on time is 2.5 ns, I talked to one of the engineers that worked on that chip and he stated it's more like 1ns to get 90% conduction.

The main problem with the device is that the turn on time is faster than the turn off time. This makes it have increasing noise with frequency.

I did some experiments some time back where I had a special clock generator (4 quadrature clocks) that created clocks that had a few ns of space between I and Q  so that a switch could turn off completely before the next turned on and it made a big difference in noise at 10M and 6M.

Hi Cecil.

Thanks for your reply!

I do not think that noise will be the problem because it only changes the filter and switch between tx and rx, not qsd circuits. . It may be possible at higher frequencies it will have a gain problem but fortunately UHFSDR has a high gain in the RX side. I was concerned about it should have an opamp after the bandpass filter but it is not necessary.

2m is probably worth a try ! .

I am a little worry about gain in ( on hf ) , because my antenna is only a 10 m long wire with a ( homemade made ) 1:9 balun to
ground. Strong signals is not a problem here .With better antennas it maybe will be best with a 10 or 20db attenuator.

Mobo PCBs are very kombatibelt (if you're a little creative) I have also used v 3.6 with 3. transverters and a separate si570
pcb . There you must modify  transformer and  component to 28mhz between dbm and the stage to the rx side , and antenna direkt to the transverter pcb.

This only works on rx side !
It might be fun to mount the automatic band pass filter from kb9yig in the last of the 4 slots.
Maybe there will be a gain loss!  2*2 fst32xx .
I think that I will have a lot of fun with the new mobo!

We could use a mobo pcb designed for the v 9 only for rx.

v6.3 RXTX kit open orders are now being filled and I should be able to catch up
on all open RXTX orders by early next week.

Thanks for your kit orders and patience with the delays in my kit shipments.

Good Evening All,

Beta testing is going well on the RXTX Ensemble kit but I would be interested in
getting a few more testers involved.

Minor changes were recently made to the RXTX Ensemble circuit board to get it to
what I believe will be the production configuration. I have four RXTX Ensemble
boards coming in Wednesday of next week for pre-production testing of the kit.

I am wanting to offer four pre-production RXTX Ensemble kits at a reduced price
to four people who have the interest and time to build the kit and report on any
issues found while building and testing the kit.

The pre-production kit will contain all parts that will be provided in the
production kit so that the kit may be build for operation on one of four band
groups: 160m, or 80m/40m, or 30m/20m/17m, or 15m/12m/10m. The price of the
pre-production kit is reduced to $50 per kit which includes the postage.

Please contact me if you have an interest in building and testing an RXTX
Ensemble kit.

Thanks and 73,

Anyone who is interested in Tony's offer and in building the kit in the staged fashion I use in my builder's notes is welcome to review my Ensemble BETA Builder's Notes and strongly encouraged, should they decide to follow my approach, to submit stage-end photos to me for inclusion in those notes.  I have begun the build, but I am using an earlier version (not the production version to which Tony refers).  Consequently, my notes contain pictures of completed stages which are fairly accurate, but not completely accurate representations of the production board.

While you're at it, any comments/suggestions/corrections you may have to my notes are most welcomed.

I brought this up before when the last version of SDR-radio 1E came out early in
March and I was wondering if anyone had similar problems or any ideas on what
the heck is going on.

It sounds like all signals have intermod or severe overload and distortion. I
reloaded version 1D and it now does the same thing. It did not before. I would
think I had a problem with my sound card or hardware but every other decode SW I
have tried, PSDR, HDradio, etc. works fine. The only one that exhibits this
behavior is SRD-radio. I am using an EMU 0202 USB and turning the volume
controls fully down makes no difference other than changing the absolute levels.
I had thought that going back to the 1D version would return me to a working
copy but it now does the same thing. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

I got an Altair in 1976. It was a kit for "only" $1200. Got it at
"The Computer Store" on Olympic Blvd in Los Angeles. The Computer
Store was the first personal computer store in the country! Came with
8K of RAM, no hard disk or floppy. I used a reel to reel tape recorder
for program storage! Loaded at the fantastic speed of 300 Baud. That
was after you hand keyed in a 21 step bootstrap program with the toggle
switches on the front panel. Came with Altair Basic(took 6K of the
8K). If you displayed the bits as ASCII on the screen of the TV
typewriter used as a display, near the end you saw "written by Bill
Gates and Paul Allen"! It was in a kit, all parts had to be soldered
onto each plug in board and the motherboard(which, I think, was 8 slots)
had 100 contacts for each board that had to be soldered!

Chris,

Thanks. That works. I should have read the docs! I don't see anyway to change the window size though. It seems to fill the full vertical size of the screen resolution.

It can, just give it the commandline options for -wv or -fs

Subject: [softrock40] RXTX Ensemble pre-production kit

Good Evening All,

Beta testing is going well on the RXTX Ensemble kit but I would be interested in getting a few more testers involved.

Minor changes were recently made to the RXTX Ensemble circuit board to get it to what I believe will be the production configuration. I have four RXTX Ensemble boards coming in Wednesday of next week for pre-production testing of the kit.

I am wanting to offer four pre-production RXTX Ensemble kits at a reduced price to four people who have the interest and time to build the kit and report on any issues found while building and testing the kit.

The pre-production kit will contain all parts that will be provided in the production kit so that the kit may be build for operation on one of four band groups: 160m, or 80m/40m, or 30m/20m/17m, or 15m/12m/10m. The price of the pre-production kit is reduced to $50 per kit which includes the postage.

Please contact me if you have an interest in building and testing an RXTX Ensemble kit.

Thanks and 73,
Tony KB9YIG

Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about this Transceiver and if it's solid state or valve and what modes does it have. It's suppose to have been Marlon Brando's ham transceiver.

While in windows view and after the screen saver had engaged when it came back the size of the WinradHD window was reduced cutting off the bottom 1/2 or so. I could not access any of the buttons at bottom left. There seems to be no way to recover without closing the program and starting over.

I had one of the original Seequa Chameleon Z-80 computers running CP/M-80. I later got the 8088 board for it and ran MS-DOS. It was a lugable... just barely.... I used it for work during the day and ran a BBS on it at night... Those were the days, but I think I'll keep my dual core, Windows 7, and Linux for now.... Come to think of it a DUAL QUAD would be better.... :-) The upgrades never end... and I like it that way!!!

It was in a kit, all parts had to be soldered
onto each plug in board and the motherboard( which, I think, was 8 slots)
had 100 contacts for each board that had to be soldered!

I got this Si570 from Jan G0BBL, last year and I find I don't need it for now.

It's new in the packaging from Jan, G0BBL.

Marked: Si570BBB000141DG

I will take $65.00 US Dollars for it for delivery to anyone in the USA. This is
about the same cost that I paid, no profit here.
