Description

This discussion group is for anyone interested in Soay sheep, particularly the Soay sheep found in North America. It is for both current and prospective Soay sheep owners, breeders, and enthusiasts. The purpose is to provide a forum where people can express their views about aspects related to Soay sheep--ask questions and share experiences about Soay sheep, breed and registry organizations, genetics, coat colors, horns, lambing, etc. Topics can be virtually anythin relevant to Soay sheep enthusiasts - RBST ("British") Soays, North American Soays, Soay sheep in the UK, or on the islands of Hirta or Soay.

In particular we welcome those new to Soay sheep - those possibly interested in starting a flock, or those recently starting with start-up questions. All the participants were 'newbies' at one time and virtually all have some experience to share with others just starting. Please join in and ask any questions you may have. For more information, visit our companion web site for the Soay Sheep Breeders cooperative group, SoaySheepBreeders.com.

Postings for "Soay sheep wanted", or "For Sale" are also welcomed. There are photo albums for sharing images with other Soay enthusiasts.

There is no moderation of postings. (Please follow Yahoo guidelines. Obviously off-topic and commercial postings will be removed.)

A fellow sheep raiser got a guardian pup and it is now 2 years old. A cougar killed a lamb, came back for more, and the dog protected a part of the flock, but

Thanks Jen, They are just doing what is right for them, and ecosystems don't function as well without them. I think livestock guardian dogs, herding dogs, and

Angela, I am so sorry for your loss. And pleased (maybe not the right word) that you appreciate the role of predators. That's why I'm so passionate about
