Came across this on YouTube. It's cool that Billy plugged the DVDs; I wasn't
sure if he had divorced himself from the role and all, given his film success.

I was very sad to read this news. I didn't know Marvin very well, but from the
interaction I had with him, I know he was a kind and supportive person. He was
of great assistance when I wrote the Soap Fan Fiction, and he provided me with
the pics of the cast to use on the site. He was a true Soap fan and he put his
heart and soul into his website as well as this list.
Marvin will surely be missed. I wish I could've gotten to know him better...

It is my sad duty to let you all know that Marvin Morley who
was
co-partner on The Soapfans mailing list has passed away due to
complications of Kidney Failure and Diabetes.
For the very brief time I know him he was a very sweet person who made
the most of his life the only way he knew how.
God bless you, Marvin. You were my friend and one of my many adopted
soul brothers.

Very sad news. My thoughts go out to his family. RIP, Marvin.

Sorry to hear that. Marvin was a fun and knowledgable person on this group and
I enjoyed hearing from him, as well as the small personal interaction we had. He
will be missed.

We lose more and more great performers every year it seems. I'll never get used
to it.
Farewell Bea and Dorothy.

To anyone who has the DVDs all you have to do is use the "time remaining"
function and you can see at the start of the episode how long it is. All the
episodes of one season should be approximately the same length. One thing I
thought odd about the syndicated/edited episodes was that some episodes were
given a LONGER opening theme with extra scenes added and a portion of the song
repeated which was never shown on NBC (one scene has the girls dancing on the
floor with the carpet rolled back, I believe). If you see this opening on the
DVD it is definately edited.

Thank you, Elad.
Glad we have the GG DVDs to enjoy again and again.
BTW- I had thought that the GG DVDs were all the uncut episodes, but supposedly
some in season five are edited (I hadn't noticed, as I haven't watched that
season as much as the earlier ones; that wasn't one of the series' best years,
overall- after the first four seasons, it had declined somewhat from its
ridiculously high standards).

So sorry to hear about Bea Arthur, but, as someone else said,
she and Estelle are probably keeping everyone entertained in
Heaven.
According to IMDB that is our Susan Harris. I didn't realize
that she had been in 2 episodes of SOAP, either. She was Babette
in episodes 15 and 17 in the first season. I will have to
go look at them so I will know her when I watch the
Beverly Hillbillies on Wed.
My sister told me that Estelle's Alzheimer's had started while
the show was still on the air and that Bea, Betty, and Rue all
covered for her because they thought so much of her, and wanted
to keep her on the show. I don't have verification of that, but,
you can tell from the show that they were a tight group and
it sounds like something they would do.
They will be missed.
Ellen
Yeah, thank goodness for the DVDs which allow us to enjoy the talents of the
girls as much as we want. I've been watching the episodes centered around
Dorothy, I've gotten through two of the three discs in season one. Man, Bea was
some talented actress...Sure miss her.
I actually don't own seasons five or six on DVD so I can't comment on whether
the episdoes are cut or not. I will have to purchase those some day to
complete the collection - but I have the rest of the seasons and I love watching
the episodes whenever I get a chance.

So sad to hear of Bea's passing. She was one of the greatest. What a talented
actress! She will certainly be missed.
Guess it's time to pop one of those Golden Girls DVD's into the player and watch
Bea as well as Estelle Getty at their best. They must be making each other laugh
right now up there in heaven.

It's been less than a year since Estelle Getty died (July 22 2008). When it
rains it pours.

I've read that before on IMDB and wondered if that was the *same *Susan
Harris-will have to TIVO it and find out.
RE Bea Arthur: I wonder if TVLAND will show any Maude episodes or the SOAP
retrospective she was in? I know TVLAND has shown SOAP before but only for a
short time.

Imdb says the episode "Marry Me Shorty" of the "Beverly Hillbillies" is running
Wednesday on TV Land. Susan Harris supposedly plays a harem girl in that.

NO way!! I have to go back and check that out. Now I am going to be
paying attention to everything in the backgroud. A couple of my
younger friends are coming over next weekend and we are going to have
a Soap Marathon. They have never seen it so they are in for a treat.
One has seen a few clips off You Tube but that is it.
A bust of Benson...Ok, this is getting weird! hahahahahaaa

Well I put it in found the scene,(first season, 8th episode, third or fourth
scene in. I did everything, I zoomed in,paused and I can't see a clear enough
picture. The only person I can think of is a picture of Cathryn Damon. It must

Hi, Tena. Welcome to the group.
With the series fully released on DVD, it's been kinda quiet. What would be nice
if those season specials (that acted asa synopsis of the prior season and aired
befoee the new season started) were issued on DVD. The first-season wrapup (Who
Killed Peter?) and the third-season (Jessica's Wonderful Life) were released on
VHS- but not sure if the second-season special was (with Jessica and Benson,
befoe he goes off to the governor's mansion). I have 1 and 3 on VHS, but I
haven't seen the 2nd season one and don't know if it's floating around anywhere.
Just some extra FYI for you. :)

Hey everyone! I am new to the group and very excited about joining. I
remember watching Soap when I was very young. Actually sneaking around
to watch it ..ha ha. I loved all the characters and plot lines but
especially the ones centered around Danny Dallas. Ted Wass is a
wonderful and talented actor and now Director. I am wondering if anyone
has ever got the chance to meet him personally and if anyone knows how
he can be contacted. I have tried a few ways in the past with no luck.
I would love to meet him one day and would make the trip to CA if I
knew I could. Thank you all for any information you can share and I
look forward in getting to know you guys.
Tena
PS I am anxiously awaiting my Soap entire season collection of DVDs
that should be arriving soon. I am going to start from the beginning
and get my Soap fix...
