I'm thinking of going down and hanging with Mike Z around Feb 18-25. Anyone
else down for it? Tix on United are anywhere between 411 and 765 depending on
days traveled.

Arrived Thursday night after dark.  2 days travel 11 hours each day, hard to do it any faster w/ single lanes & traffic & towns.  Setup camp & RV Friday AM, then short 10-12m session.  Folks who've been here say the previous Monday it just now turned cold here, but days feel nice to me and only feeling cold just before dawn.  More camp setup today (got wireless internet access going just minutes ago).  Whew...need a break from the strain...looks like another 10-12m day but could be more 'cause it's little early but first kiters are on the water.  Sunnier & warmer than yesterday...think we have mild El Norte going because blew most of the night...

Off to the Beach...

Jack...I'm in La Ventana which is about 40 minutes east of La Paz on Sea of Cortez.  It's a small dirt roaded sleepy village of Mexican fisherman except November-April when the wind junkies and snowbirds arrive.  Some camp, some have homes.  Fantastically beautiful setting , conditions for kiting, great eats where local Mexicans do home cooking...

We drove from San Diego but you can fly into either Cabo (and take 2 hr drive), or La Paz.  Rent cars either place.

Yesterday another 10-12m day with smooth winds, warm.  Last night was annual Burning Bush festival...like Burning Man but way smaller...but a few exhibits came from BurningMan.  Way cool.  Theme this ear was "World Ends in 2012"...evidently Mayan Calendar ends in 2012 more precisely predicting the end at 12/12/12.  This website will have pix when the photographer gets around to posting them: www.ventana411.com .  I'll get names of other websites that have pix and send the urls.

Today  12:30PM looks like a bluebird sky thermal day probably 12m maybe 14. Warm no clouds.  Time for the downwinder...later...

Big kites down by B. Joe's, but solid beef 12m up north here. Did downwinder from hot springs and great time up north but halfway down it weenied.   Drove back up north and back out on 11.5 for sweet another sweet sesh.  I've used 11.5 Kahoona all 3 days of kiting so far.  Figuring it out & experimenting w/ line lengths & pigtail settings.  My take so far...it's a little slow & lumbering for my taste but that'll be a benefit for 5.5 & 7.5.  When I go to 20m lines it's a lot better...but I can see it'll take some adaptation.  l have my Eclipses too and will do head-to-head trials tomorrow.

Thanks for headsup about J.  I'll email him.

All this next week is big Kite Expo so will demo & report.  Still on the Stonker.  Tried a couple other boards first two days but still like the Stonk...

Jack...I'm in La Ventana which is about 40 minutes east of La Paz on Sea of
Cortez. It's a small dirt roaded sleepy village of Mexican fisherman except
November-April when the wind junkies and snowbirds arrive. Some camp, some
have homes. Fantastically beautiful setting , conditions for kiting, great
eats where local Mexicans do home cooking...

We drove from San Diego but you can fly into either Cabo (and take 2 hr
drive), or La Paz. Rent cars either place.

Yesterday another 10-12m day with smooth winds, warm. Last night was annual
Burning Bush festival...like Burning Man but way smaller...but a few
exhibits came from BurningMan. Way cool. Theme this ear was "World Ends in
2012"...evidently Mayan Calendar ends in 2012 more precisely predicting the
end at 12/12/12. This website will have pix when the photographer gets
around to posting them: www.ventana411.com . I'll get names of other
websites that have pix and send the urls.

Today 12:30PM looks like a bluebird sky thermal day probably 12m maybe 14.
Warm no clouds. Time for the downwinder...later...

Arrived Thursday night after dark. 2 days travel 11 hours each day, hard to
do it any faster w/ single lanes & traffic & towns. Setup camp & RV Friday
AM, then short 10-12m session. Folks who've been here say the previous
Monday it just now turned cold here, but days feel nice to me and only
feeling cold just before dawn. More camp setup today (got wireless internet
access going just minutes ago). Whew...need a break from the strain...looks
like another 10-12m day but could be more 'cause it's little early but first
kiters are on the water. Sunnier & warmer than yesterday...think we have
mild El Norte going because blew most of the night...

Off to the Beach...

Here's a few pix...haven't taken many 'cause too busy setting up camp.

Today may be a no-wind day so breaking out the dirt bikes for some exploring.  I swear...the most reliable long leadtime predictor of no wind here...Kite Expo/La Ventana Classic week!!   Seems like most every year I've been here wind becomes marginal that week.  Great before, Great after, but weenie wind that week.  We'll see about this year...event doesn't really get going for a couple days yet.  People now arriving, many coming from the big Lord of Wind event in Los Barriles which was last week.  No wind today OK for me...Pretty sore from 3 days of powered kiting.

are you saying 20m lines are the long one ? as in you are flying something
shorter ? 25m to 27m are going to make that a completely different kit ,
give you a lot more power , I fly 27m , 25m , 27m are the stander , 20m for
surf or learning . but you know all this , get some extinctions at B, Joes
. Did you bring your camera ?
Lets see some action .
also demo a slingshot rally for me , preferable a 12m

Big kites down by B. Joe's, but solid beef 12m up north here. Did downwinder
from hot springs and great time up north but halfway down it weenied.
Drove back up north and back out on 11.5 for sweet another sweet sesh. I've
used 11.5 Kahoona all 3 days of kiting so far. Figuring it out &
experimenting w/ line lengths & pigtail settings. My take so far...it's a
little slow & lumbering for my taste but that'll be a benefit for 5.5 & 7.5.
When I go to 20m lines it's a lot better...but I can see it'll take some
adaptation. l have my Eclipses too and will do head-to-head trials
tomorrow.

Thanks for headsup about J. I'll email him.

All this next week is big Kite Expo so will demo & report. Still on the
Stonker. Tried a couple other boards first two days but still like the
Stonk...

Call me a dreamer… but what else have we been able to do lately….

Thinking out loud… but if we get a bunch of heavy wet snow on top of the frozen hard ground and then a ton of rain and warm temps…. Then wouldn’t  Indian Creek have a good chance of picking up a few inches of water?

Crossing my fingers for lots of snow on the Camas and Bogus and lots of water for ICR.

Should begin tonight.

Hey Jon Bolt… how about another fix.. looks good today

Yesterday gentle 12m, easy play day, try anything.  Don't think I've ever been here in January when it's been this warm.  Simply terrific.  Dinner @ Viento del Norte, rellenos camarones & papas rellenos asada & their huge Margaritas.  See picture.

Today morning sunrise fantastic red.  After home-made omelets, got the motobikes out for first ride...playin' on bikes until about 1pm.  Wind came up early today & kiting started while we're out riding. Downwinder from 1:45 to ~4:30.  Litsky on 11m.  Getting used to new kite now.  Jumping the shrimp boats. Not a cloud...warm & blue sky.  Have to ask for camarones tomorrow.  Dinner in camp: pargo (snapper) sashimi & Margaritas, followed by killer salad & baked pargo & jurel (Yellowtail) & corn on cob.  The Oscarito market sells killer homemade strawberry ice cream stop your heart.  Terrifically warm again today...

All for now...

Juan

Does anyone know a good place to get bridle lines by the foot?  I have an older flysurfer Pulse I that needs a little maintenance, and I was hoping to avoid paying >$12 per bridle segment + shipping from Germany.  Most of the bridle lines for the kite are Dyneema rated at 60, 100, or 120kg.  All I can find online are heavy bridle lines like what are used on an inflatable kite.

Thanks,
Josh

Don't forget we need 3 things to Snowkite.

Snow.  Finally got it!!!

Wind. Looks very promising!

Visibility. Well it does not look good.  At least for my fair weather butt. I like to be able to see what I'm doing. Sucks as now I'm just another weekend warrior.

BTW.  4 of us hit CV on Wednesday and had a little fun.
