Yesterday was windy but the snow remained mixed icy, firm, soft, wet, and watery in spots.....It was a mix but there is still a good base that should stick around for 2-5 weeks pending temperature. Looks like next week will be fairly mild so good luck with wind, see you guys when we get back.  If no snow left then time for the water......

Leaving for a Los Barriles vacation Sunday to Sunday. I think we timed a perfect "no wind" vacation, so off to the fishing boats we go.  Bummer.
La Ventana looks worse...we may get a 2-3 days of light winds I guess we will see!!! If we get skunked I'm going to CC to join Billy for wind.

Have a great week!!! We will ;-)

Didn't see Monty on Friday either. 25 to 30 was the norm with firm snow. Sunny
but not warm enough to make good corn. 4 kiters accross from the turn off.

Eddy

if your looking for a boat in Los Barriles check these guys out. http://eastcaperv.com/  They run a great program down there. Shaun is a kiter and Theresa runs two sport fishers with great mexican skippers who know how to catch fish, She can also help with any other info you need. When there not in Mexico the live here in Hailey so maybe you can get an Idaho discount

Hello snowkiteidaho.  Just wanted to share some good news.  I got a job!  It looks like I will be joining the weekend warrior snowkite crowd next winter.  I know that joining the work club isn't suppose to be fun but this job is the exception.  I work at Promoshop as an account executive.   Brand marketing and creative design kind of stuff.  If any of you fellow kiters need help promoting products, let me know. Much love.  See you all this weekend or maybe Friday.

It's in the process of switching to the east now so you could see last resort working this afternoon , the snow will be firm with some pockets of softer stuff on east facing slops

Hi all,

Arrived in Los Barriles yesterday afternoon just in time for a 3 hour
session on the 9m. Perfect side shore condition with 3-4ft swell. Dan
got session on his 9m & Jen went out for 2 sessions on her 5m. On her
second session she was confronted by a school of Manta rays that were
jumping out of the water all around her. Manta rays were about 3' wide
and jumping about 5' out of water. Some of them appeared to be flying
temporarily. It appeared that it was some sort of mating ritual that
they were preforming for her kite??? It was very bizarre and scared
the shit out of Jen. We were able to get photos of the action, and
I'll post them when we get back. Day 2 promises more wind but rest of
week looks mellow. Nice to snowkite on Friday and kitesurf, in 85
degree / no wetsuit, on Sunday. I could get use to this;-)

Another amazing day on the 9m. Los Barrilles seems way nicer than LV,
unless LV has changed significantly since 2002.
The manta rays are called Mobius Mantas, today I had one jump in front
of me during my third and final session.
Session #2 ~2pm was super amazing 24-28mph.

I'm looking for a good beginner/intermediate lightwind board for this summer.  Any suggestions?  So far I've been looking at the Liquid Force WLF, Slingshot SX, and the Crazy Fly lightwind board.  Any help would be appreciated.

I don't even consider LP unless I can use my 11.5M or smaller...Which is quite often...

Have any of you tried a skim board in light wind?  You would nit believe how much wind you need to ride a skim....almost none.

Plus one for the skim!  The skim gets my vote because you can be up and riding in very little wind as stated, but also because: it can be ridden in high wind, skinny water, and the challenges are limitless.  Contrast this to a light wind dedicated twin tip that is pretty much good for just "mowing the lawn"...heelside mowing the lawn at that ;^)

My Crazy Fly skim is available for a demo run any time, just ask.

Cheers,
Mike

Not for a beginner/intermediate. Wouldn't a skim board be hard?

Shhh, don't tell anyone, but riding a skim is easy.

(Riding like Mark Shinn is hard)

I also have a CrazyFly 145X44 and it is great. Handles the chop that we have at LP really well and planes up fast which is great for the light days and the underpowered/shadowed launch area at LP.

A good LW board does everything.

A skim board is good fun, great in shallow water.

A surfboard is my latest obsession.  I wish I had it here in mexico :-(
Straps or strapless is really fun and crazy upwind is cake. Learning to jibe smoothly a real challenge, but very rewarding when you nail it. A reagular short surf board will work but one designed for kitesurfing rocks and will not break in to pieces on a hard landing. Love my Wianman. F-one has a cool bamboo one. Get the right size for your weight and you too can feel Nirvana:-)

Too much fun.  Shallow water is easier. Lots of body dragging required but so much fun.
