I'm finally free..well at least for 4 days...then off to Mexico, for a week. Unfortunately work related. Anyone know anything about Los Mochis???

Both this afternoon and tomorrow look good and Saturday??? Maybe a good afternoon thermal.

I'll be ready by noon

Just checke dthe camus cam. still looking pretty dark up there. I can wait for
something better. Saturday is looking REALLy good. Tomorrow looks better too.
But, if it starts to shape up a little today by 2ish, I would entertain the
notion...

Not that you all care much... but there was powder a-plenty up
at the old hill. At least 3 new inches between when I parked at
10am and when I left, 2-ish.

Varied from really low vis to whiteout, snowing the whole time.
Windy, drifting.

Lovely weather.

F'cast for more.

Well according to John, it was epic...a big blue hole moved over them, 14-18 mph
wind, with 8" fresh snow. DOHO

Heading up today for sure, got about 3" at my house so I'm guessing Camas got
more. Road looks open at 6:30 with headlights visible on camera 1.

Saturday looks good as well.

Trying to depart at noon.

J mac and Chris,

If you love your dogs, LEAVE THEM HOME!  They were both all over the road, nearly getting creamed several times each.  It is grossly irresponsible take a dog  to a highway and just fucking leave it.  YOU brought it out there, YOU baby sit it.  You can’t just go kiting off into the sunset saying “you kids be good!”

We ALL have dogs, we ALL leave them at home because we know they can’t keep up with kiters for very long, and they require too much supervision.

Please return the leash to J Jordan.  His wife, Kathy, was in the parking lot.  She put them in her car for a while earlier after they each had four close calls. She didn’t know what to do about them. When Steve and I quit they were walking back and forth across the road, sometimes standing in the middle, completely oblivious to the cars railing on their brakes.  Fortunately, we found the leash, or you might’ve finished your perfect kiting day with a little road kill surprise waiting for you when you came in.  Wouldn’t that just suck.  Or worse, what if I, or someone else, had to deal with your dead, or even worse still, not dead yet dog lying in the road.  What the fuck are we supposed to do?

Man, I’m pissed.

I agree with everything you said . I saw two very close calls and others saw many more , the dogs were just very lucky thy didn't get hit . I say leave them home or kite at the snowmobile park if you must bring them , thy would be safer there . You guys were even told once but ignored the warning . this was reckless behavior .

I think we’ll get that jet stream flow starting around 1ish.  Forecast from noaa is for SW10 in the afternoon.

Definitely a sweet day yesterday.   Guess we’ll have to trash a new spot today!

What a day!!! incredible everything...like riding on whipped butter, perfect wind, and sun-burnt face. Yesterday was the best I've had in a long time.

Today is starting off slow...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the thermals kick in this afternoon. If so it should be good from 2 until dark. unfortunately the lapse rate is on the wrong side of the scale for good thermals, but it looks really good at 14,000ft, but an inversion at 8,000 is slowing things. Maybe it will break up.

I'm going regardless leaving around 1-2.

To J Clive & Kathy--

Thank you for your concern and action regarding the dogs, it is appreciated. I
will get your leash back to you hopefully today if I see you, otherwise give me
a call at 850-9481.

To Darrel--
As for gross negligence and reckless behavior, thanks for your ridiculous and
hyperinflated statements. Dogs always get in the road, this is what they
do--other than licking their balls, humping butts and marking their territory to
bring the vulgar to your level. How many times can you say F in one post? My
guess is you don't have dogs that are more wolf than domesticated canine and as
such you wouldn't have a clue what these types of dogs need on a daily basis
(tons of vertical exercise in snow) and as such makes you extremely unqualified
to comment about their safety.

If they were in your way or tangled your lines I apologize, but to go off in
such an emotionally charged way is unnecessary. Who asked you to do anything?
Sure as shit if you would of called my dog he would of run away, he dislikes
dangling Kooks as much as I do.

Just trying to spare you some awful heartache, man.

Thanks for keeping your pooch under wraps today. Regardless of what you might think of me.

My qualifications:

1985-90 wolf/malamute/Siberian cross.  Mike  had about a 5 square mile range he considered his. He Got hit by a logging truck while I was on vacation.  My friend who was house sitting was kind enough to track the trail of blood, post holing through the snow, ½ a mile, reach inside Mike’s body cavity to stop the bleeding, carry him out and take him to the vet.  It was good to have a friend that would go that distance for me and for my dog.

1990-2005 samoyed/red wolf/lab cross 1991; while dealing with a flat tire in a campground, some people parked across the highway, Fritz went to say hi, I called him back, told him to sit, stay.  He complied, I turned back to the tire. Within a split second, he bolted and was hit by a minivan.  I had to carry his limp and lifeless body back to the car and drive him back into town and find the only vet open on Sunday.  It was one of the absolute worse days of my life.  He spent over a week in intensive care and lost his left front leg. He became “Fritz the Three Legged Wonder Dog.”  Until I came home from work one day to find him in the backyard unable to walk.  I took him to the vet, he said his stomach had twisted and swelled, shutting off the blood to his lower extremities.  The vet said he had less than a 50% chance of surviving the surgery because it had been too long.  He survived the surgery, but suffered a coronary when coming out of the anesthetic.

Currently, I have a Kansas City street mutt, Dr Seuss, and a lab/St Bernard, named Cabrinha, who loves the snow more than I do.  They love super long hikes, Mtn bike rides and ski tours, and they have even been out kiting once or twice when my wife comes along to supervise them when they lose interest in chasing me.  Cabrinha got bit by a rattle snake, and Ed Grr, a Pit Bull/Bull Mastiff,  had his spleen rupture due to cancer on the same day a year ago in October.  2 weeks later, Dr S. tore his CCL (equivalent to the ACL).  I missed the Kite Soldier event last year because Ed Grr was bleeding out due to the cancer and we had to make that final ride to the vet with him. I was on my way up to the event, in a truck full of people, when my wife called and said he was dying. Fortunately, Everyone in the truck thought I should go back, and gladly gave up half a day of kiting for me.

I drive for a living and see dead dogs on the side of the road all the time.  I can’t help but think of the people who hopefully cared for and loved those animals, and now they are on the side of the road like garbage.

No one would need ask me to do anything.  I am compelled by my conscience to act compassionately towards other living creature.  I’m sorry, but that includes asking you to take responsibility for the one you have chosen to call “yours.” Particularly dogs who have so willingly given themselves to us people, accepting us into their pack, and appointing us as the leader.  The least we can do as honor that by leading with integrity and with our companions’ safety and well being foremost in our minds.

Thanks again for caring enough to keep him off the road today.

Darrel

Darrel,

While the cybersphere can sometimes seem a good place for a rant, this situation
proves the context and meaning of a well intended comment can be drastically
misperceived.

In no way did I mean to offend you personally, I just felt this was something
that could have been addressed on the scene and in person rather than in an
f-bomb fueled email blast. TO be absolutely clear, you were right from the
get-go and had I known the devastation you've witnessed thanks to careless
drivers and/or careless dog owners I would have phrased my comments differently.

I think your statement 'Particularly dogs who have so willingly given themselves
to us people, accepting us into their pack, and appointing us as the leader.
The least we can do as honor that by leading with integrity and with our
companions' safety and well being foremost in our minds,' pretty much sums up
the responsibility we have to our dogs as owners and caretakers. It's something
I haven't had to give much thought to b/c I've never lost a best friend or seen
him lose a leg. Definitely something to keep in mind, especially given the way
we see drivers handling that section of Hwy 20--i.e. 85 mph on the
straightaways.

Let's let bygones be BYE and GONE and Get Our Kite On!

already around 20. I expect it will hold all day. I should be good to go after
