Belize data for you
includes a web cam
from there you can get the weekly and monthly historical graphs but here is a direct link http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/MZBZ/2013/2/15/MonthlyHistory.html
here is a great map site that lets you get very detailed images of the area.
the sort of bay area at the bottom of Ambergris Caye below the HOI Chan reserve is great, you have to have a boat to get to but it is all waist deep and free of any docks or man made structures. The one little kite shop that used to be there, taught lessons there.
As a vegitarian you might have a little bit of a hard time finding food choices but harder still is finding a latte.  There is one french cafe place on San Pedro right at the central park that does have good coffee.
To bad you are not a fish eater as the little stands that fry up fresh snapper are really good and way cheap compared to the restaurants.
Oh if you could score me a bottle of the 3barrels rum, that would be great, I am about out and you can only get it there.
Also the local Belkin beer is not bad, should drinks lots of that.

Year or two ago when you came to Los Barriles, didn't you share a rental home/lodging with another couple?  No doubt only one of you made the reservation and thereby became responsible to pay.  Did that payer receive reimbursement from the other couple for a share of the lodging?  Did money or equivalent change hands?  Given your appreciation of Joel's input, it probably shines a new light on the unfavorable impact of that sharing on Mexican business operators trying to make a living & feed their families, as well as the potential illegal nature of that activity. There are many Mexican landlords who run lodging businesses, rent homes, RV parking, etc.  In your instance of house sharing to minimize costs, two houses could have been rented instead of one, and the unrented house could've easily been owned by a Mexican citizen depriving an honest Mexican of fair revenue to feed his family.  If money or equivalent changed hands to achieve that sharing, that was, according to Joel, illegal.  Aside from that, any Mexican landlord who learned of your sharing and didn't like it could enlist the police to arrest you for running an illegal lodging business...and the burden of proof to contrary is totally on you.

Now that Joel's perspective, and my incident, have given you new found sensitivity to the plight of honest, hardworking Mexican citizens, the damaging impacts to their families, and potentially illegal nature...all from sharing housing costs, I'm sure you won't resort to that means again for going "cheap" in Mexico.  Pretty inconsiderate and unfair to the locals, and could be illegal, right?

Taking the family in the VAN.  Wind will peak 2-4 so no rush to be early.  If anyone wants to bring a non-kiting significant other that wants some kid time in a nice toasty van.  I've got a job for them.  :-)

Another fun day but very thermic, played at the Big Easy and 9-10 players.  Really bummed to see so little snow this year.

Supposedly we have a few back to back storms rolling thru. Maybe we can get a little fresh stuff before we get the hot stuff and all the white stuff turns to wet stuff, and then I have to stuff my FA into a wetsuit!

:-) sorry for the visual :-)

We have a 14m catalyst and its a nice kite. Very simple and stable. Feels a touch small for its size. I used it like I would a 12. Drifts downwind great when you kite at it on a wave.

Ours is a few years old. Not sure what has improved.

Switchblade is Cabrinha's all around and widely acclaimed.  Best Kahoona's are another long proven very popular allround.  Because people so satisfied with both of them, they've been around many generations...well proven and incrementally improved each year.  Catalysts are much newer design/model than either of these.  I'm sure there's many other good allarounds too.

Sorry to hear the news. But at least the snow is not the best this season, and the water sport season should just be “getting going” in 3 months.

I'm heading up to Island Park late this Thursday, and I was wondering if anyone has any pointers on the area. We're staying through Sunday in a cabin near the Robin's Roost (S. end of Henry's Lake Flat).  Friday forecast is a steady 18 from SE.  Has anyone kited that area?

Thanks,

Jon you dufus...you don't get it.  That's why I bought a shuttle bus!!!

Btw I thought your rant was over.  My original reply had little thought about you. I wasn't calling you a cheap-skate.  All I originally said was against Rusty, telling him that Joel had as much right to voice his opinion, which I realized I agreed with. Sorry I hurt your feelings, it was not personal.

The wind is supposed to come thru early AM Saturday and wind advisories
throughout the region. Not sure about the 6-15" of snow but fingers are crossed
for something. I'm not going to bother with Saturday as it will likely be snowy,
cloudy, and very gusty strong winds, maybe road closures also. So be careful.
Sunday is my day to head up. Late afternoon thermal should make for another
great day!

...POWERFUL WINTER STORM TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY...

.A VERY STRONG WINTER STORM APPROACHING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THIS
MORNING WILL TRACK BRING SNOW TO THE IDAHO MOUNTAINS TODAY AND
SPREAD THROUGH MUCH OF SOUTHWEST IDAHO TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY
MORNING. STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP OVER SOUTHEAST OREGON THIS
AFTERNOON AND SPREAD EAST. HEAVIEST SNOW WILL FALL IN THE IDAHO
MOUNTAINS NORTH OF THE SNAKE RIVER BASIN. ELEVATIONS BELOW 4500
FEET WILL HAVE RAIN AT FIRST BUT WILL CHANGE TO SNOW AS A STRONG
COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH IN THE PRE- DAWN HOURS SATURDAY. STRONG
WINDS ALONG THE FRONT AND THEN LATER AGAIN ON SATURDAY WILL CAUSE
BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW.

* SNOW AMOUNTS...6 TO 15 INCHES POSSIBLE...GREATEST AMOUNTS IN THE
   BOISE MOUNTAINS ABOVE 4000 FEET.

* SNOW LEVELS...4500 FEET UNTIL COLD FRONT PASSES DURING THE
PRE- DAWN HOURS SATURDAY. SNOW LEVEL WILL QUICKLY LOWER TO
   VALLEY FLOORS BEHIND THE FRONT.

* WINDS...SOUTH 10 TO 20 MPH BEFORE FRONTAL PASSAGE THEN
SHIFTING TO WEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH.

* TIMING...LATE MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. WORST
CONDITIONS EXPECTED BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND SUNRISE SATURDAY.

* IMPACTS...HAZARDOUS TRAVEL ON ALL AREA ROADS DUE TO SNOW AND
   REDUCED VISIBILITY.
