As libertarian-communist (anarchist) I have written critique of "mental health"
in various
texts.
In a nut shell the DSM is a mixture of prejudice, ignorance, and buorgouasy
ideology.
For sure our brain is a complex system. It can be described as analogue to an
information
processing system with options to give various outputs.
Most of its aspects are processing information, storing information, and giving
output in
communication and in activity.
Various results of the inputs and processing can be less than optimum and even
can reach
problematic levels - both in thinking, feeling, communication and behaviors.
As other parts of the body the information processing can result in
psychosomatic
disturbances like too high or too low levels of hormons and neurotransmitters
that can
prevent sane functioning of the brain processes.
The DMS do not discern correctly between the physical disturbances to the
processing
disturbances. It does not relate correctly to the reasons of the various
disturbances. It
does not suggest the appropriate interventions needed/can-help to restore a
better level
of functioning.
I wrote a DIY book (on the internet for free) that enable some improvements:
