The primary focus of the list is anarchism (aka libertarian socialism). The list carries announcements and communiques from anarchists and related groups and individuals, essays and articles of interest to anarchists, and stories drawn from mainstream news media that mention anarchists or other topics of interest. As anarchism opposes hierarchy and all forms of illegitimate authority, the list may also include items on a wide variety of related subjects. These may include corporations, globalization, human rights, the environment, marginals milieu, fair trade movement, and all kinds of progressive activism.

This is an announcement group, not discussion group. But anyone may post appropriate articles, responses that add significant facts, make challenges to the accuracy of posted articles, etc. Another group, Hale_Bobb, welcomes discussions of Smygo posts.

Relaying an article does not imply endorsement.

The group's primary language is English, but appropriate posts in other languages are welcome as well. Attachments are not allowed: articles should be in the main body of the message. Only members may post on Smygo.
