See I just think that loaf looks delish << always sees sweets in
soap ) hehe ... how do you do the swirls , cause they really set it
off. are they long swirls or just short pieces lined up in a row?

I'll have to give them a shout. I think for now that
3 kg would be enough for me if anyone here knows how
to special order... is it the same where you live.
that most beaver lumbers are now home hardware anyway.
I hope when I call there they know what im talking
about..

Thanx for the number that should make it very easy to
purchase :)

I have a few chemical suppliers that I Know of. none
of them are local though.. so Im really going to have
to take a look around but If I ever need to get in
larger quantities It would probly be worth it to order
out of town. :)

Nancy,

Try Home hardware. They sell Gillette's lye in small containers, but
if you want to save some money, they can special order in their own
brand of lye crystals. The SKU # for the 3 kg container is ..
0003226431. That size is priced at $17.99, but it will last for a
while.
If you want a really large supply, check out "chemical suppliers" in
the yellow pages. A friend of mine got some at one of those places at
$20.00 for 50 lbs of lye.

I hope you dont mind if I hit you up for infor now and again. :)

I went shopping for lye today .. a city this size you would think it
would be easy to find. I went to the feed store and the local old
hardware stuff , you know the place where everything sits dusty and
dirty on the shelf for years. Well in the summer time I picked up
his last two jars of lye. and at the time i think they had been
there for a while and he hasnt gotten any more since
Next is beaver lumber and home hardware .. if they dont have any , I

LOL ray ... there really is a yahoo club , or group called soapmaking
101.

and as for the soap smelling.. not that ive noticed but ive only made
casitle wich is moslty olive oil. but it depends , if you diside to
make a soap with pine tree in it. I hear its pretty darn smelly :Þ

besides , if you make soap for all her bathing beauty needs , why
would she want to go :)

as far as books go I have one aound here somewhere but theres scodes
of information on the net.. all over the place

try Majestic Mountain Sage for one .. they have lots of information
on soaping and all kinds
also the soap teacher is another good site. Amd most important sorce
of information is right here with all these women.. they know there
soap and can usually answer any question. ( about soaping atleast:)

supplies for yourself , best bet is local craft shops and grocerie
stores.. there are usually co-ops floating around so keep your eyes
out for them so you can get more for less.

and if you tell us where you live .. dont worry we wont stalk you
even though you have an ever ready supply of beez wax and wood
molds ;) if we knew where you lived there is probably someone else
in here who could direct you to some good internet sites for you to
take a gander at.

Well I better introduce my self to the group.
I'm into Ceramics, Painting 'as in paintings not houses',
woodworking, Model Railroading, I'm also a beekeeper and make
candles 'both Wax and Gel and I can not forget I make cakes for
weddings.

I have been interested in making soaps for quite awhile.
But I have never been able to get around to trying, untill now.

I am so knew to this process on soap making that I feel I will need
to get "Soap making 101 for dummies".

I am sorry to not be able to help with the group other then pester
you all on recipies and help.

That's all I can do for know. HA! HA!

Well my first Question is there any books you recomment for me to
read on all the defferent ways you can make soaps.

Also can you steer me in the right drection on any suppliers for soap
making.

When making soap does it 'no pun intended' smell bad at first. I do
not want to get into soap making and have my girl friend bail on me.

And last my sign on name is due to me being a woodworker. It seems
all I make are woodchips from my wood working projects.

Take care all Ray :D

oven method ,, its like speeding up the curing time.
other wise you have to wait forever. :Þ an I cant wait

I like malt and pour but I love Cold Process. There is just
something about creating soap completely from scratch. You can
control how pure it is. You should call this group soapjunkies
anonymous. Just Kiddin.

OF course Marian if you like ... you work hard you
should be able to show off your wares if its what you
want to do.

Give it a try to make a folder.. ive not yet so if it
doesnt work I might have to change some settings. so
that everyone can make their own folder:)
