I had a quick look at the Chat section which
involves joining Yahoo messenger...In order to see who is
available I believe you need to have them as friends on
messenger....Hence I have invited those of you I have seen on the
new site to accept an invitation to join my list.
Time zones.....you are either on line or not (even if
you are online you can show non-availability if you
are busy ) will it work......It does with icq and msn
so I don't see why not!
Its nice to remember the trip from Penang over on
the ferry to Butterworth and then down by train to
Tappa and the long grind (by bus not 3ton RL)to
Slim....The return trips were even better! I can even
remember the smell of the old buses grinding up to the our
dorms at Hopetown on the dark evenings after the clubs
had finished and the tea urn of cocoa drink before
lights out. It was almost as bad as the jungle juice
they fed us..alias weak powdered orange! Who was it
that got bitten by a snake they had captured and was
playing with on the table tennis table at Hopetown
?.....We were a good bunch of lads or am I lying...Was
there not a jungle track back down to the girls dorms
which was even quicker than the bus up! Still don't
want to bore anyone the culprits know who they
were...we had to "make up our own beds" the following term
as punishment. Looking forward to hearing what our
seniors got up to besides smoking...by the time I got to
5th form there were only five in the boys class and
three of those were Gurkas...
Hi Bushtracker,
Queensland was great, enjoyed
every minute of it!
I'll send a e-mail to you later
this week.

Pity I didn' know about "Sydney"
when I was in Sidney - we could have got
together.

Frank.
Indeed I am impressed by the postcards of your
new home town. But I allready looked it up on your
home town web site. Get the camera out - I want to see
that BBQ !!!! Can't down load Yahoo messenger -
compamy admin won't let me - got it on at home but have
not tried voice mail as yet - have to fight off 2 uni
students to get on the PC !
Bushtracker
Right I have replied to the first message and now
I am posting one completely out on a limb... does
everyone know each other then in the chat
room.

Thanks Dave for the photo's; I was able to show them to
someone who made contact after they had seen the Slim
advert in our local paper - needless to say he was over
the moon and we found a picture of him in a group
photo from '62. Another one for the reunion in October
I think. Has the headgirl from '52 been in touch,
she has slides from all those years ago and in
brilliant condition.

To everyone else, yes I
remember an awful lot but not too good on the words of all
the songs especially the rude ones... did we really
travel about in 3 tonners???
Does anyone remember
that set egg dish we used to have for breakfast with
coloured bits on the top or was I just imagining it?
Well I have joined up and now I want to speak to
someone. I have read all the messages, and yes I remember
the 3tonners, the songs, the Boh tea estate and loads
more - the passion fruit trees around the playing
fields - and what about the 'wide games' were we really
that violent? Buying pineapples in Tanah Rata and
asking the cookie boys to peel them...
Yes we used to visit a tea plantation and even
taste the tea - don't you remember???As if the girls
would know such words?? - By the way "springy sappling"
- I was there 57 - 59. I presume it was a name the
boys gave to the young lady which she never knew
about!!. I must have known her. Look at Dawn and Sonja in
the photographs at the guide camp in Penang - !!Hope
you are suitably impressed with my new "home town"!!
It would be great to all chat, but how on earth
would we agree on a sociably acceptable time for
everyone! There's even 3 hours between Sydney and Perth,
goodness knows what it is between you and us over here!
My brother John mentioned that very song when I was talking to him on the phone
only the other week! Perhaps Alastair can ask him what the rest of the words
are.
As I recall we used to have a school trip to the tea plantations - even did tea
testing!!!!!!!!

Enjoy your weekend at home Dave

Margotea xx
Does anyone remember a school song, late 1950s,
which ended with the immortal line: "Why do the boys of
Slim School do their Art upon the floor?" (This was a
reference to the posture of a certain Arts mistress!) -
keith
where do you think we got the words from ? from
the girls of course !!!!!! will be home today so will
get to read your snail mail letter today.
Its cold
down here yesterday it hissed down with hail to boot -
max 14C min 6C I'm not used to this !!!!!!

I
forgot about the Tea plantations - very
clever

Dave
Hello everyone,
Like you I am finding my way
around the system. Like everything new it takes a bit of
getting used to but after a while it will be easy peasy.
I hope.
There is also a chat forum where at an
agreed time and day we can all get together and have a
chat. haven't worked out how to do it yet but it will
come.
There is also a device called messenger which lets
people know you are on line and they can send you
messages (you have to download the programme) whilst you
are on line and you can reply. Again haven't got the
hang of that yet as I was getting messages from Dave
Heeley but I don't know if he got my reply.

So
let's play with the system and see how we get on.
David W
Hello

Yes Margo because that is my name -
and tea for all the tea in the Cameron
Highlands!!!!
Very clever I thought!!!!!!!!!!

Well I would
not really remember the songs with "rude words" would
I !!!!!!!!!!!!
I quite agree about the system - I'm still
finding my way around it myself. Great to hear fromn you,
though. Yes, Big Brother and I had a very pleasant drink
together recently, comparing our photos of Slim, etc. I
was amazed to find that he was living only 2 mls away
from me! Glad you are coming over in October, and I'm
looking forward to meeting you - keith
<EOM>
I believe you had a drink with my
big brother recently! It's a bit hard getting around
this system isn't it. But I suppose you have to
persevere.
Look forward to seeing you in October
Ishbel
MacKinnon
David
Ask Manfred - I have a feeling that Robbie is not as keen as some of us
? I have sent you his snail mail address & phone No.

Bushtracker
Well Hi frank
How was your trip to Queensland
? I vaguely remember the song - went along the
lines of Its a long way to tipparary ? How about the
words to the Slim School Fusileers" ?

Bushtracker
Margotea
I think we sung many verses of "roll
me over in the clover" on the way down plus one or
two other songs which I can't remember - The words to
the song you mentioned are in one of the school mags
I think. The boys may remember the words to to "The
Slim School Fusileers" which was not a clean song by
any stretch of the imagination.
I remember we used to sing songs in our three ton
trucks on the way home for the holidays - but I cannot
remember the words - very well.
One I sort of
recall:-
Oh mother this slim school is a terrible
place!!!
And the organisation is just a disgrace!!
I do not seem to be able to get any email through
to Robbie Harris. Does anyone have contact with him.
If so please email him and let him know that I can't
send to him and for him to get in contact with
me.
Ta.
Hello Everyone
This is an open forum to post
messages, pose questions, hopefully get answers
etc.

This area is open to anyone on the web so be
circumspect. Don't leave full names, phone numbers., addresses
etc. Email address should be ok.

So if you want
to give it a try be my guest.

David W.
