Now on to the trail situation with Gaylord, I had a couple calls yesterday on it
and emails too. I think they are
getting it resolved but from what I am told the Gaylord Tourism Bureau doesnt
want anything to do
with the grooming. If I was a motel owner there I would be furious with that and
I have already decided that
I will not advertise on their map next year if none of that money goes to the
club or whoever is responsible
for grooming. Here is a letter I recieved yesterday afternoon....

Hey Pete,
     Had the following conversations about the Gaylord trails.  Worst I've seen
in eight years of riding in the area.
Spoke to the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce about it and they passed the buck to
the Gaylord DNR. Spoke to the Gaylord DNR next and they stated they are not
grooming this year.  Last year was a contract to the DNR thru the state.  This
year they are contracting back to the snowmobile clubs in Gaylord.  They then
stated that the club contract had not been finalized (insurance issue) and that
there was no grooming in Gaylord this past weekend. Spoke to a member of the
Gaylord club and he stated the insurance issue was resolved today.  They hoped
to be out grooming tonight or tomorrow.

Dennis what's going on? Not much here.Wife and I went to Hastings on
Saturday. What a great day of fun and racing. Was cold as hell there though.
Didn't think it was going to be that cold but it was. And of course didn't
bring all the warm stuff. lol My wife was chilly for sure. We are going to Novi
  too in a few weeks. That's when I get my wife all her new stuff. That's
funny I  also lived in Florida. I moved there in 1989 and moved back in 1990.
Lived  in West Palm Beach for 6 months then moved to Jax. I sold all my
Arctic  sled and gear. So when I moved back didn't have a thing. lol But love
Michigan so I had to come back. I ride in all the same areas. So  let's for
sure get together this winter. I have the whole month of December  off of
work. Then I have the first week also of January,and the whole week of  Martin
Luther Jr. week off too. I Like to ride from Middleville too. Great place
to ride if you dont want to go all the way up north. Only 55 miles from my

Hello how is everything going? did you go to Hastings yet this weekend I was
there yesterday I belong to the SnomadS Snofari Club we are based out of SE
Michigan a lot of our members are from the Oakland County area. We are going to
be in Lansing for the MSA convention and we will be at the Novi snow show we
will have a booth feel free to stop in and talk to us and get some info about
our club. We are celebrating our 25th year this year we were the MSA 2007
Snowmobile Club of the Year. We have a bunch of rides set up for this year there
is 2 rides set for Cadillac and Gaylord with rides in Munising and also a couple

On suday we rode from Grayling to Fredreric, very good ride and lots of
snow. We stoped at SLEDHEADS OF FREDERIC so my freind could buy on of
Petes hats, we always manage to lose one about every week. no one likes
wild hair when you stop and eat. If you ever get to Frederic stop at
Sledheads they have a lot of neat stuff and I think the best web site.
Pete took the three of us for a good ride some places we have never

Just returned from frederic this afternoor,sun was starting to melt at
crossings. There is a good base in most areas but I did not ride the trails
much,did alot of 2 tracks.

I am waiting for another good 12" before we head back-up. I talk to
friend of mine who lives out by camp Tanuga east of Kalkaska he says
they have only 4" of new snow as of 2/16. I hate to say it but it's
probably not worth the trip unless we get hit Thursday, Friday w/ a good
foot of snow. Thats what I'm waiting on. We better start the snow dance.

We rode 300 + miles 2/5 from Kalkaska-Jordon
valley-Gaylord-Fredric-Grayling-Fife lake-Ranch Rudolph-Kalkaska awesome
ride, We rode cross country 2/6 awesome riding, on 2/7 we rode the rail
north out of Kalkaska to 768 Mancelona to Alba took trail 4 to Lovells
and the snow was going fast. Trails were getting real slushy & thin,
snirty in the corners. The roads were real bare and we had to hug the
edges to get back to town. We watched the snow go Saturday 2/7 from 36"
in the Kalkaska area to 16" by Sunday afternoon. Real depressing. Also
when we left Kalkaska Sunday Lake City & Cadillac area was real bare,
half the snow  that was 30 mile North.

I stopped in Pete's shop Saturday & bought a Winter Camo sledhead hat,
I've got nothing but compliments.

Also,Got to check out the Fred Bear Collection, pretty neat stuff.
