Hello All,
New to the group.
Currently live and sailing on my old tugboat, or racing on my 5.5 Meter.
well, not right now.. too cold in Seattle.
Trying to sell off my current boats and buy a large cruising sailboat.
Wood or Ferro. Maybe steel.
Want to sail before I get too old to do it !!
I did my seatime for my Captains lic. On tall ships and my biggest dream is to
sail around Cape Horn on a square rigger.
Dont know if that will ever happen again weather I am on it or not!!
Sad. I love old sail ships. Baltamore clippers my favorite. I really love a
Brigantine rig. Just no one left who sails them or live that life anymore. Too
hard these days.
I just finally had my plaque made up with Sterling Haydens famous quote.
I try to live by it.
Would love to meet anyone in the Seattle area who would like to sail my 5.5 with
me .
My long term goal is to end up in the Chesapeake Bay.
Andie

Today, the skip I crew with said he just bought a Viper 640 and asked would I
crew it instead of the Flying Scot.

Not knowing the class, I asked...."Is it FAST?" (BIG SMILE)

Thank you Joni. and a belated Happy Thanksgiving to you. Hope you had a terrific
time with lots of friends and family.

not been around much - first time for months. Seems like you had a bash
recently. Good to read that people are gathering to have fun. Maggie would
approve.

Best regards to all my SS friends, even Wally!! LOL

Thanks for the info...I belonged to another Trailer Sailors group and it was
lots of fun and the information they share is very helpful usually.  Hope you
have a good time in Dec.  I won't be doing much sailing until after the first
of the year.  I have good friends who are moving their new 38 ft Beneteau to
Bocca Ciega  next week and I do hope to join them for some cruising in Jan or
Feb.

Hi Janis and anyone else reading this....a person that works at my
college heard about our Bash, and later she and her husband came to see
me at lunch. They belong to the WCTSS (West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron) so I
checked out their website and the group
is exactly what I am seeking for exploring with QT! Their stories and
pics are wonderful! Check it out! $20 annual club fee and a year's
worth of fun adventuring with a group who obviously enjoy the beauty of
FL!

They have a cruise planned to Pine Island Sound end of Dec...(same area the bash
was held) so hopefully... .if the HURRICANES will stay away, (LOL) I can take QT
for the trip and meet them all.
They sound like fun folks! Hope anyone else reading this with a dinghy
will join their group, trailer down and join the fun! Will keep you
informed - glenda

The Pelican Bay Bash is going to happen and Hurricane Ida just made us become

Mel, his dog Sparky, Joni and Glenda have teamed up to have a great sail to
Pelican Bay on Mel's "Sea Puppy" so anyone looking for us at Loop B, Site 003 in
a tent will need to look for us on Sea Puppy instead. Wind and seas are up so we
will start the adventure off with some fun sailing action!
Mel posted phone #'s and the channels he monitors in a previous email so feel
free to contact us if you are out there anywhere looking for the Pelican Bay
Bash!

We cancelled the campsite and QT will have to stay home on her trailer this time
but we'll plan another bash....and will post some photos after this one! Fair
winds to all and we hope Ida stays away from our northern coastal friends also !

No sailing around here today!  Ida is coming our way....fortunately as a
tropical storm rather than a hurricane.  We are expecting sustained high winds
tonight (50 - 60 mph)  and lots and lots of rain....I'm ready...so not
anticipating any real problems unless we loose power for an extended period of
more than 3 days. Be careful out ther in the Gulf Mel and crew!  There are some
much stronger winds off shore with this storm.

I was thinking of kayaking out to say howdy to everyone, with camping gear in
the kayak, and finding someplace to stay, but with the wind and waves I'll just
keep working on the boats and take a rain check. Today I'm taking time off from
the painting the bilge and I working on trading an antique bronze windlass for a
sailing dingy. Off to Kansas later in the week, need to find a way to get back,
late in the month.

Enjoy

I was thinking of kayaking out to say howdy to everyone, with camping gear in
the kayak, and finding someplace to stay, but with the wind and waves I'll just
keep working on the boats and take a rain check. Today I'm taking time off from
the painting the bilge and I working on trading an antique bronze windlass for a
sailing dingy. Off to Kansas later in the week, need to find a way to get back,
late in the month.

Enjoy

Thanks Captain Pete...

I'm still planning to head down, with or without QT in tow and at least take the
ferry and camp until the rangers run us out of there. LOL! I love feeling the
wind and building surf!

I've been evacuated out of St. Joe's Peninsula park cabins...it was an
adventure. We arrived with friends, the rangers were fine checking us in, we got
our cabins, headed to the beach and went swimming in the gulf but kept
commenting about how surprised we were at the waves and great body surfing
conditions. By the time we were BBQ-ing dinner, the rangers were knocking on
our doors saying we had to evacuate. That was in early June, 1995 and the
Orlando Magic were playing for the championship! Ran from the storm and headed
north, exploring the Florida Caverns the next day....until they began filling
and leaking, they closed the park and we got run out of there....LOL. Ended up
in Alabama for the Pirate Festival, then the next day...went back to the park
and enjoyed a great vacation!

Guess sometimes you just have to make the BEST OF IT! Thanks for caring! -
glenda

Hurricane IDA is heading to NOLA - Pelican Bay Basher's should keep an eye on
the weather as it may turn and might effect the Bash. Tropical Storm Winds are
possible if it shifts direction.

So nice to hear from you Glenda, sounds like you will have a great time at
Paelican Bay bash.

If you decide on Key Largo in March I think I could make that one. Dec is just
too busy with famiy "stuff" usually.  Although I'm not sure yet what the plans
for this year will be.   I usually do make a trip South in March ( kind of a
treat to myself for my birthday)

I would love foryou to come visit me up here whenever you get a chance!  If
trailering a flying scot would be easier than QT that would work too becuase you
can stay at my house and do lots of day sailing right here.  Both Pensacola Bay
and the Intercoastal are great for the smaller boats.  But I love to cruise the
Gulf too..so whatever you choose will be great fun!  If you bring a boat, I will
furnish all the food and supplies needed.

Have fun at Cayo Casta and we will catch up sometime soon hopefully !

Hi Janis,

Just in from a MOONLIGHT LASER SAILING evening and it was AWESOME!!!!! ! Great
planing puffs in the dark and once the moon rose over the low clouds, a
spectacular night! Whooohoooo!

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make the BASH but I'm sure we'll be planning
more. I can't wait and now have QT ready to be a "trailer/sailor" boat so plan
to explore both coastlines all year as long as my jeep pulls her well. I've
hauled to Carabelle and Cedar Key several times, just need to take it slow
(50-55) as the boat & trailer are twice as big as my jeep! LOL! But the drive is
also part of the journey so it's all good. May head up your way someday and
maybe we can have a BASH up there too! I've never met anyone on this site so it
will be fun. Still hoping to do Key Largo, either Dec or Mar if all goes well on
this trip.

Sleeping on a boat is PURE JOY so happy to hear you had that opportunity, sorry
you didn't get a sail in also.

Don't work too hard and remember to go sailing....my job is horrific at times
and these "adventures" are my happy thought! I'm been smiling for weeks every
time I think about going! Take good care and go outside and enjoy the breeze and
full moon! glenda

Hey Joni,
are you okay with me sharing your email address w/Candi so we can get food etc
planned? I think we have it planned pretty well already but thought it would be
nice to include her in the final preparations. QT is ready to go!!!!! Even
installed a compass on her, don't need one for the lake! smile!

Plan to do a lot of trailer sailing this year so it will come in handy!
P.S....will bring farm fresh eggs and even got a little camping egg holder to
keep them from breaking...LOL!
Cheers! glenda

Hey Joni,
are you okay with me sharing your email address w/Candi so we can get food etc

Cheers! glenda

I'll be there. I'm checking into Cayo Costa State Park on the 8th!!!! Be there
or be square, but please, if you are coming, let us know, as Glenda is planning
ribs on the barbie for us and I am doing chicken and the third night we are
going to Cabbage Key and eat there. And having our pics taken stapling a dollar
bill to a wall in some groovy bar, lol. Come on!

for the "Pelican Bay Bash" Nov. 9-11. Pelican Bay is a lovely anchorage for big
boats, the park has about 16-18 slips for smaller boats but no utilities, and
campsites for those who want to cross the 1-mile key and camp on the beach. The
beach and gulf sunsets in Nov. are incredible! 8 miles of natural, preserved
beach to swim, snorkel, fish, shell, photograph nature and stroll.... it is the
hidden part of old Florida you just don't see these days.

activities we plan to do include a happy hour and maybe Tues or Wed. a gulf sail
on Mel's "Sea Puppy" (depending on weather). Also, exploring or "learn to sail
lessons" in Pelican Bay on "QT" (Quiet Time), my 16' Rebel dinghy, and
definitely a lunch or dinner at Cabbage Key, where we will take a "group photo"
with our signed $ bill taping it to the wall, ceiling...wherever! Whooohooo!
Cabbage Key is just a fun place to explore. May even climb the water tower for a
photo up there too!
