Description

The Simply Haiku forum is a place for poets of varying abilities to share and receive feedback on their haiku. We are a traditional haiku forum and will no longer deal with Senryu as that is another genre and very misunderstand at this time and juncture. We believe that haiku is an activity (koto, process) biased genre . Haiku is not as some claim, an object (mono, subjective) biased haiku-like poem. If you want suggestions on how to improve your poetry, please share! You will never be spoken down to as is the habit of some forums and you will never be rudely corrected. THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT A DISCUSSION BOARD TO DEBATE WHAT IS AND INS'T HAIKU

Vulgarity, flaming, and arguing are not allowed.

This is a peaceful list for peaceful people who want to grow as poets.

I suggest reading books by Steven D. Carter, Peipei Qui, Micheal F. Marra, David Barnes, Makoto Ueda, Donald Keene, etc. and to avoid the misinformation in Blyth's books regarding haiku and it being a zen literary genre with an aha! experience. Haiku is haiku. American haiku and Japanese haiku are not two separate genres, with the same name. Both types of haiku are defined by terms used by the German based university system Anglo-Western countries and Japanese both use. These definitions do not define haiku as it was meant to be understood. Also, read my series (soon to be a book) on Japanese Aesthetics in Simply Haiku at http://simplyhaiku.theartofhaiku.com
