Hi, I have 32 simplex repeaters in stock. The one we developed shuts
down when the memory is full , This automatically puts the unit off
line when two parties are in range and chat back quickly. The units
are DVR501 US Digital. The unit has two modes announce and repeater.

Jim,
If you need remote control capability you might want to check out the
NHRC-3 controller. Go to:
http://www.nhrc.net/nhrc3/ for more info.
Good luck on your project and keep the list informed.

I'm wanting to setup a 6m simplex repeater and I am looking for suggestions for
the type/brand of controller to use. I currently have a Radio Shack unit that I
intend to use for emergency com., but it won't do what I want in normal usage.
My hopes are: 1) be able to turn off the repeater when both stations are in
simplex range. 2) eventually be able to have autopatch.
Any suggestions?

Jack,
While I'm not familiar with the military equipment, if you can access audio
out and the mic connections, most of the simplex repeaters I know of will
operate with it. The requirement is simply speaker audio and mic input for
a simplex repeater to work since its simply a controlled digital voice
recorder. Just match the connectors and you're in business.

Hi all,
I've added some additional links on the Simplex Repeater page at:

Please let me know if you know of any Web pages of actual on-the-air

It would be nice if you supplied it in URL format: http://www.etc... so
that you only have to click on it.

Rob,
I don't know if this will help you or not, but I know of someone in
Pennsylvania who put a NHRC controller together and is using it on 6 meters,
however I can't remember which one it is.
The repeater is running full duplex right now and the audio quality is
great!
If I can catch up with the control op, I'll try to get more info.

I'm looking for background information on a design put together by
Motorola for use in Vietnam in the 60s-70s. Based around probably a
PRC-77 tactical transceiver, the unit operated by keying the PTT at
something like 3000 Hz. Audio received during the unkeyed intervals was
stored in an audio delay line and then fed into the microphone input
when it was keyed next. Remote stations could then communicate through
this arrangement in real time.
My interest is in experimenting with using modern store-and-forward
single channel repeater circuitry to replace the audio delay line used
30 years ago. This would allow me to possibly build up one of these
repeaters around my PRC-77.

Matt,
Don't be apologetic. This is exactly what this list is for. In fact, I am
also curious about the RS simplex repeater. I have an older Alinco SR-4
that works very well but am interested in the newer units.
Anyone who has one of the RS units, please feel free to comment on Matt's
questions.

Thanks for the explanation of simplex repeaters.I was on onelist starting
a fm ham list and after I was done I did a ham search and seen your
list.Sounds like a good way to increase activity on two meter simplex
frequencies.I like to do two meter simplex but in this area there is very
little activity. I think radio shack started selling something like that
digital voice recorder you mentioned.I havn't got any of their flyers or
catalogs but my one ham friend was telling me about something there
selling now for around$100. and it sounds like what you explained. You
hook it up to a radio and it records your transmissions and retransmits
them.Have you seen it?Ok.thanks again for the explanation.

Hi Clair, welcome to the list!
A simplex repeater consists of a radio on a simplex frequency and a digital
voice recorder. When a signal is received, the recorder stores the message
(usually about 60 seconds worth max.). When the received signal ends, the
digital voice recorder retransmits the message on the same frequency.
The benefits of such a setup are:
1) Like a regular duplex repeater, the simplex repeater is usually at a
high elevation and retransmits the message over a greater range than the
original transmitter.
2) The cost of a simplex repeater is MUCH less than a duplex one. No
duplexer (the device that allows the repeater to transmit and receive on
the same antenna) is needed (about $1000) and the digital voice controller
is usually much less expensive than a duplex repeater controller.
3) When you transmit to a simplex repeater, you get to hear your own
transmission. While it takes a little while to get use to it can be very
beneficial. You'll hear exactly what your signal sounds like and what
everyone else hears. This is also great for checking out your radio. (And
hearing if you actually make sense ;).
4) Because of the simplicity of the setup, a simplex repeater can be set up
quickly in emergencies. Simplex repeaters can even be placed in vehicles
and driven up to a hilltop.
I'm going to create a Web page that goes along with this list with some
simplex repeater info. If anyone else have some ideas about what should go
on the page, pass them along. BTW, as owner of the list, I don't mind for
sale postings as long as the price is included.
Let's get some activity going on this list!

Hello,
I've notice a few sign-ons to the list and wanted to start things moving. I
started this list to help those who want more info on simplex repeaters as
well as simplex repeater owners who wish to share their experience.
I own an Alinco SR-4 Super Repeater Controller that I had up on a 2 Meter
frequency. I plan on putting it back on the air this spring. I'm curious to
hear what other are using or considering since the SR-4 is no longer produced.
I'd also appreciate the spreading of the word about this list to other
interested folks. The more the merrier!
