I will be teaching a class on Slavic shamanistic beliefs and how they over
lapped into the double faith culture as Christianity was introduced.

My lady, if there are any written or e-mailable handouts for this class, might I
impose on you to send them to me? I would be most interested to see them.

I recently posted more pictures of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague and traditional
Georgian dancing. I even threw in some variety posting a photo of a T-38
aircraft and scenes from a crocodile farm outside of Bangkok.

Be careful or you might get bitten!!!

To view these, click the link below and don't forget to leave comments. Also,
click the photos themselves to get an enlarged view.

So... with the Pennsic U booklet deadline looming, and finally knowing that I'm
going this year, it's time to decide What To Teach.

Has anyone else decided that they're going & what they might be teaching?

I'm thinking possibly a basic gerdany class and an intermediate one. After
that... I'm not sure. Suggestions? Lots of folks here have taken classes from me
-- any requests? I have no problem teaching the same class year after year; I
see different faces every time.

Cheers,
Sfandra

I'll have handouts available after Pennsic.

The Early Russian Clothing class involves hand-drawn images that I've never
scanned into a computer, and the Early Russian History handout is being reviewed
for re-editing.

I get to go soon ! EEEEEE!!! Plans are to fly into Batumi, take the
overnight train to Tbilisi, and then "wing it" for two weeks, ending
up back in Batumi to fly out.

Is anyone else on the list specifically interested in Georgia ? I
know they are not Slavic, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask...

So, the deadline to register your Pennsic University classes and get them listed
in the Pennsic 39 book is Saturday!

We've got Sfandra's thoughts listed below ... I believe Marija is working on a
Slavic Paganism class ... Mordok signed us up for a SIG social....

I would still very much like to teach a one-hour class on the Battle of Grunwald
(600 years ago this year). What would be a good title to get people in the door?
I was thinking of "Smackdown of the Teutonic Knights: The Battle of Grunwald on
Its 600th Anniversary." *grin*

Also, what would be interesting to talk about? I don't do heavy fighting, though
I could read up a bit on the battle tactics.

When during the war would be good for me to teach a Grunwald class? What about
fighters who want to attend?

Finally, would it be inappropriate (or too anachronistic) to talk about some of
the long-term ramifications of Grunwald, even post-SCA period (its propaganda
value both during World War I and during the breakup of the Soviet Union)? Maybe
that could be just five minutes at the end. (I also have a vivid description of
the 500th-anniversary commemoration of the battle in 1910, thanks to the New
York Times.)

Also, I don't mind teaching another general class on medieval Lithuania, so I'd
like some feedback from people who have already taken it. Maybe I will mix up
the topics a bit. What do you think -- fewer Grand Dukes, more music?

Thanks,
Patricia

Has anyone else decided that they're going & what they might be teaching?
I'm thinking possibly a basic gerdany class and an intermediate one. After

I have not been to any of those countries, i plan on visiting Georgia sometime
soon. I have visited Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. I
plan on visiting Slovenia and Croatia next year.

I was born in USA and i live in Florida which is very nice, but if things do not
improve economic wise for me i will be relocating to somewhere in central or
Eastern Europe and getting dual citizenship.

But i need to go and visit more before i can move. It is a dual edge sword, i
can not get a job so i want to leave usa but i need a job be able to have funds

I've submitted my classes.

I'll have 2 sessions of the old standard: Early Russian Clothing (because
honestly, when I get 20+ students every time, it's worth it to keep it going).
Then one session of Early Russian History. And 1 Two-Hour Gerdany class, where
we'll try to make headway on a collar necklace rather than just a simple
bracelet.

Oh, I soooooo want to take the gerdany class!! (Yeah, so I should have gotten an

So, do you think "Smackdown of the Teutonic Knights" is a good title for the
Grunwald class, or will all the SCA knights with Teutonic/Crusader personas show
up fully armed at my A&S class? :-)

Yes, the Georgians are not considered to be Slavic but I think their culture is
influenced by that culture.

I plan to move somewhere like that once I retire. The US is changing so much
that I feel more comfortable in other places than I do here. I would love to
retire in Georgia assuming I can get some type of residency visa. I doubt I
could get citizenship though. If you have any more questions about that part of
the world, don't hesitate to ask.

We're flying in from Istanbul, and it's something like a third of the
price to fly into Batumi versus Tbilisi. Hence the train. I'm having
trouble narrowing down the places I want to visit ! I expect I can
kill a few days just in the museums in Tbilisi alone. I definitely
want to see Gelati, and Mtshkheta, and I'd like to get up to Svaneti.
I'm not especially interested in vineyards, but I'd like to swing east
into Kakheti, so possibly down to Davit Gareja... I'm just hoping our
Russian is good enough to get by on.

> Please promise me you'll send me some pictures of your trip, okay?

I'll post them somewhere and link to them. :^) I just bought 24gig
worth of SD cards for my camera.

> When are you leaving???

We'll be in Georgia in early June. What is the weather likely to be
like then ? I'm guessing it may still be quite cool in the mountains,
but something like the 80's in Tbilisi ? The temperature ranges they
give on the travel sites are awfully broad.
