My 797's Blue Screen of Death   Message List

Re: My 797's Blue Screen of Death

Firstly...Blackie , thanks for the reply.

It all started with my 797c2si.

Problems i have encountered:

GPS dropping out...was told it was a software problem as iam in the southern
Hemisphere(Australia)....fix was new software update...all good except tracking
update is way to slow when trying to locate a waypoint. Iam comparing this to a
Garmin and a Lowrance i had in my last boat.

Next...2d sonar stops working and depth is also lost off side scan screen....i
put this down to a transducer problem. I can deal with this as i have a 787
right beside the unit to use for 2d view and the side scan still works. Latest
problem looks to be final....LCD screen dead.

My 787c2:
Screen freezes for no reason....i have restored factory settings and installed
latest software up grades to all units. The unit also turns its self off
periodically. Now all this happens in both boats i own. This means two different
mounts and two different power supplies.

My 787c2i:
My internal antenna appears to not work anymore, nothing blocking the view and
has worked ok in the past.I now have it hooked up to a external antenna and
seems to be working ok. But now i hook my 797 to my 787 via a interlink and the
position error goes from 8 feet to 35-40 feet again nothing to obstruct the
antenna and has worked fine in this position with the other unit. If removed
error is decreased dramatically. My interlink is now disconnected and units have
regained accuracy.

Now as i move these units between two boats i am using two different power
sources which have other brand electronics working with no problems. This does
not include my pals boat...he has his own problems with a 797 and 987 which are
similar to mine with a different power source.

I do think this forum is fantastic...however i spend far too much time trawling
the posts here for information to remedy the short comings of my electronics. I
admit i purchased all my equipment direct from the US....but i have always done
this, and do not believe that the international model would be superior. As far
as warranty goes i know i have left myself open, however never imagined i would
have this much trouble.

I have always installed the latest available software and when problems have
arisen, returned units back to factory settings and started again with my
preferences.

I love Humminbirds innovation....its ability to provide software up dates etc,
but my units shortcomings has left me wondering.

Turned on my 797 today and noticed a dark blue border around the edge of the screen in GPS view. Over the space of an hour it finally consumed the lcd screen....

I had the same problem with a loose power connector at the 798ci HB unit. Looking closer it is apparent that the molded power connector is a little shorter...
