Yvonne
I too am trying to find the Shutt ancestors of the Muhlenberg County Kentucky
Eliza J Shutt, 1840-1898, who married William Smith Hayes. I have Eliza's
father as Jacob M Shutt, 1818-1897. Jacob M was the son of Jacob Shutt,
1787-1851 and he was the son of another Jacob Shutt, 1756-1825. Hopefully, we
are in agreement up to the third Jacob Shutt, but that is where I get stuck.
There is one US and International Marriage Record, 1560-1900, showing a Jacob
Shutt, born 1756 in Germany, marriage in Kentucky to Elizabeth Miller, born 1775
(not 1762 or 1752), with no marriage date given. There is another US and
International Marriage Record for Jacob Shutt, born 1756 in Germany marriage in
1793 in Maryland to Elizabeth Miller, born 1775. There is also a Maryland
Marriages, 1655-1850 record that shows Elizabeth Miller marrying Jacob Shutt in
Maryland on January 4, 1793 that appears to confirm the US and International
Maryland record. Jacob Shutt's Will lists his wife as Elizabeth, but I don't
think its Elizabeth Miller, at least not the Elizabeth Miller in the 3 records
cited above. Jacob's sons Jacob and Abraham were born in 1785 and 1788, before
the Jacob Shutt and Elizabeth Miller marriage. And they were both born in
Maryland so it's not the Kentucky marriage.
Many people on ancestry.com have Jacob Shutt's wife as Elizabeth Miller and cite
the 1793 marriage date but that does not seem to match our Jacob Shutt. If you
have any other information or can point out where I have gone astray, it would
be greatly appreciated.

read..His father if this is right was Philip J Shutt..He didn't marry until 1753
here in Pennsylvania and Jacob was born 1755-56.. If this is correct so far that
would put Philip my 5th Great as far as the 6th and 7th no resources found yet.
So putting that on hold..

-- two different Jacob Shott/Shutts who married two different Elizabeth Millers.
One couple moved to Muhlenberg Co KY to live out their life and another stayed
in Hagerstown MD and died there. I believe the Jacob, b 1755 in Boonsboro,
Washington Co MD, who died in 1835 in Hagerstown MD was the son of Phillip Jacob
Shutt and Agusta Huss (this family is discussed in the "Shutt families of 1700
Pennsylvania. " which I have mentioned is in the Files section on our Group
site.) The other Jacob who went to KY was originally given a birth date date of
1760-63 OH, but that has changed to this 1756 Germany info rather recently. I
can find no solid source for this new date and place, and that is what I was
trying to indicate in earlier email. Unfortunately many researchers are just
grabbing any Jacob Shutt and any Elizabeth Miller and combining them and their
children -- Our Jacob Henry
> and Elizabeth Groves are even grabbed and run into the mix. It is frankly a
mess.
>
> I would be very interested in the address of ANY site on the Net that has
solid sources. Everything I have seen just quotes some other "family tree" or
some researcher's email as their source. I have seen a source for "Michael
Miller in 1692" (a 25 pg book), that evidently refers to Michael's son, "Phillip
Jacob Miller bible" quoted -- but when I followed that one
at http://www.frontier families. net/family/ Miller/C7PJM. htm -- it quotes
from the bible that Elizabeth Miller w"was b. april, 1752" -- and that she
married a Jacob Shott -- there is no other info on Jacob. This 1752 date is hard
to swallow given the years she was giving birth. This source hardly resolves all
the questions about the dates for Jacob Shutt & Elizabeth Miller and certainly
doesn't prove Jacob was born in Germany in 1756. This site also uses the 1762
date for Elizabeth on another page to further confuse the issue. I'd think it
might be a typo except they have another daughter
> listed as born in 1762.

> And just who was the second Elizabeth (the one who was not a dau of the
Brethren family of Phillip Jacob Miller)? One Elizabeth was the daughter of
Phillip Jacob Miller and born in either 1752 or 1762 (depending on who you
believe). The other Elizabeth is the daughter of someone else who hasn't been
determined. One Elizabeth died in Hagerstown before 1789 because that Jacob
Shutt went on to marry two other women. The other Elizabeth was in KY giving
birth to the two sons (Abraham and Jacob) and two daughters we have identified.
All researchers (no matter which couple they are researching) are now using the
Jan 4 1793 Hagerstown marriage date, so that source is only valid for one of the
couples.  I have evidence that Philip Jacob Miller had moved his family from
Washington Co MD to Bedford Co PA by 1792, and after that they moved to OH -- so
I'm thinking the 1793 marriage was not Phillip Jacob's daughter.

the son of Phillip Jacob Shutt/Shott, I think you may be on shaky ground. If it
is some other family I'd be very interested in getting the address on the Net.
Could you share that? I have some more email copies where I was trying to find
out where these researchers got their info and how they were resolving the
problem of two couples -- I'll dig them up if you think helpful -- but it's easy
to get info-overload, so I've held off.

Shutt of Muhlenberg Co." We are not sure if and how this family is related to
Jacob Henry. You might want to go to the Files section and read the document
"Jacob Henry Research Summary" http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/shuttdesce
ndants/files/ Go to the table of contents and Control Click on the page number
in Part I and also in Part II on him (I think it’s pg 72).

I first started researching no one had a birth date or a place for the “other
Jacob” " there was some thought that he might be our (Jacob) Henry’s
father. Now the date Dec 6 1756 has begun to appear so he could not be the
father but still might be the brother. I have written to people when I see this
date and try to find out where they got it. The only source I’ve ever seen was
a bible but I cannot run it down. Where did you get the date and birth place of
Germany ? Is there a bible we could get a photo copy of?

waiting for me when I got home from VA) seem to be trying to connect the
Rifleman Jacob who was missing or captured in the Battle of Long Island with the
“Other Jacob” " I’ll write a summary of those papers when I get time
later.

> So, Yvonne, I hope you’ll be interested in working on this Jacob and seeing
if we can nail down the sources on him. I think he is likely related " a
brother or cousin. I have seen him as born in Germany , MD and Ohio " so there
is clearly work to be done to find the sources. Let me know what you think.

Well, I contacted my relatives in Kentucky who said they'd go down to the SHUTT
Cemetery (the one with the grave stone of Jonathan SHUTT). They can't do it now
because of impending back surgery.

Then I wrote a letter to Todd Co., KY, Genealogical Society. It came back as
undeliverable. Evidentially there is no longer a Genealogical Society in Todd
Co., KY.

Sorry, but for now I have to let it go. Some day we may be back there again.

Janette
