Sher Vancouver is a group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, bicurious, transgendered, and intersex Sikhs and their friends, family, and allies from the Metro Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. Members are welcome to identify their location to encourage people to plan local events and make new friends. Postings on queer issues that impact the Sikh and larger South Asian community are especially welcome. "Sher" means lion in Persian. All male Sikhs adopt the middle name "Singh" meaning lion and all female Sikhs adopt the middle name "Kaur" meaning lioness or princess. Singh and Kaur are both Sanskrit words. The lion represents strength and courage which all GLBTI Sikh people come to possess in order to accept themselves. Sher is also a play on words with the word "share" or sharing. This is a social and support group designed to help Sikhs and their friends and allies come to terms with their sexuality and meet like minded people. Please do not post any sexually explicit or adult oriented material! This is not a group to cruise for casual "physical" encounters but if you meet your knight in shining armour and you end up in a relationship that is great. Please respect each other and have fun.

Everyone who supports GLBTI Sikhs is welcome in the group regardless of race, creed, culture, class, religion, caste, status, gender, and of course sexuality!
