Hi--
My Mazzone family branch came to the USA in the late 1880s--
specifically to Chicago/Melrose Park. Denise and I have been trying to
figure out our connection for a while. Arcangelo is buried in Mt.
Carmel cemetery, so I know he came over at some point, but I haven't
found his immigration record yet. I did find the immigration records of
his daughter (Celeste) and his son (Gelsomino or Giacomino, can't
remember off the top of my head). He also had another daughter
Philomena. Arcangelo is listed as a widow in the 1900 census and he
died in 1901. My guess is that Maria Luigia, his wife, died in Italy,
but there is no record of her death in Senerchia. So, I'm at a brick
wall here. As far as I know, there is no connection to England.
Arcangelo's parents are Nicola Mazzone and Costanza Cleffi
Maria Luigia Cozzi's parents are Giovanni Cozzi and Caterina Cozzi
Hope this helps someone!
Cheryl

I have posted two photos to the Photo Album section.
The first one under Senerchia, is a Photo that John Mazzone took and
forwarded.
The second photo is under Chicago Ancestors, and is a photo collage
that I received from Neal Mazzone of one of the Chicago suburbs.
Zaccoria and Mariantonia Mazzone were the parents of the large
Mazzone family that immigrated to Chicago. I believe there were
about 14 children. One of their children, Matteo Mazzone, married
Mariuccia Papa, my great aunt, and they lived in Chicago.
I believe that Mariantonia may have been a Cozzi.
Let me know if you can't see or access the photos.
Denise
I hope you don't mind, but I am going to upload the photo you sent
out. If you would prefer that it not be posted to the site, let me
know and I'll take it down.
If you have others you would like to share, this mail list has that
option. As the owner and moderator of the list, I am able to post
these items. I don't know if others have the ability as just
subscribers or not.
If anyone can tell from their use of the site as a subscriber, please
let me know. And if you have photos to share about your Senerchia
ancestors and/or their descendants, I hope you'll want to share them
with us.
I have some others that I will posst online also as I am learning how
to do this. LOL
Thanks so much
Denise

Hi Rosaria! Welcome aboard. Buongiorno, cugina! I was excited to
see you subscribed to the new list.
Rosaria is one of my distant cousins out of the Chicago area. Glad
you are on board with us. This should be an interesting adventure.
Ciao!

I can help you find some obituaries, especially for the Chicago area if you are looking. I have access to a website that has them. I found most of my family even dating back to the 50's.
Please know that I have two little ones at home so I might not get to your request very quickly.
I'm just checking to be sure that those who are subscribed are
receiving the messages that are being posted. It's my first time
running a Yahoo mail list, so just want to be sure that no one is

I took this picture while visiting Senerchia Cemetery in June 04.
I do not have any knowledge of the connection between these two, have you?

My immediate connection to Senerchia is my great grandfather,
Federico Papa. He was born in Senerchia in 1842 and his wife,
Rosaria Cozzi, was born there in 1848.
They had several children, and my grandfather is Costantino Papa, b.
18 June 1878 in Senerchia.
Anyone connected to Federico Papa or Rosaria Cozzi?
Thanks.
Denise
Hi everyone!
Well, we now have 13 members! I invited about 30 different people
that I have been in touch with about Senerchia at different times, so
this is great. Almost 50% is a great percentage.
Please feel free to begin chatting about your family members from
Senerchia, just like John posted.
By the way, Hi JOHN!
And hi to everyone else who has joined. I think this is just what we
have needed. So, please read through the posts that are here online
so far, and feel free to post who you have from Senerchia! I think
we are off on a great adventure.
Denise
I am researching my Grandfathers family who immigrated to England in 1885,and settled in the Italian community of Holborn,London then after moved to Great Clacton,Essex where my Grandfather married my Grandmother who produced 5 sons of which the middle one was my Father.
To date, after visiting Senerchia in June this year,(Thanks again Ralph Grillo) I had mixed success in obtaining information on my family.
Senerchia has not fully recovered from the devastation the 1986 Earthquake caused, the old town is a shamble, and the new town seems to be empty apart from barking dogs night and day.
I managed to obtain from the Town Hall a few copies of family certificates, which took persistent persuasion from my Italian speaking sister-in-law Gina.
The cemetery was under reconstruction due to the devastation caused by the Quake, and I found that I could not find any graves of my family prior to the late 1800's.Apparently a very large number of graves were unclaimed by family,so the authorities reburied them in a mass grave,I don't know if a list exists.
Hoping this has wetted your appetites, looking forward to hearing form you.
We only have a few people on the list so far, but the great thing about this is that whoever signs on will be able to see what you post later on. So please feel free to post.
We do know of many Marino, Sessa, Raimo, and Gerardo names in Senerchia. So please review the posts on line and then post your ancestors.
Thank You for adding me in this yahoo group...
I'am currently researching my family tree where they are from
Senerchia, the Marino family...
Anyone with any info, I would greatly appreciate it!
I have a few details of my Marino family, but would like to know if
anyone has the surname Marino in their tree???
Either that, or Sessa, Raimo, Gerardo???
Awaiting any response :)
Clare
Thanks for your post. You live in Cincinnati, and I moved 3 1/2 years ago (can't believe it's this long now) from Indianapolis, Indiana, to Florida. Shoot, and I spent many hours in Cincinnati for various reasons. We could have hooked up. But, it seems the right thing happens at the right time, right?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to how we are all connected. I'm at the office but as others join, we'll begin to see where everyone may be connected to each other.
Hi--
My Senerchia connections right now are Mazzone and Cozzi. After years
of my grandmother telling me her family was "Senerchese" and not knowing
what that meant, I finally found out her grandmother (Maria Celesta
Mazzone) was from Senerchia! I have since found out that Celeste's
mother's name was Maria Luigia Cozzi and her father was Arcangelo
Mazzone. Since this is a fairly new find, I haven't had much time to
research further. I'm looking forward to finding other connections on
this list! Thanks Denise.

Typical common sense and politeness required. No flaming anyone. Don't have any interest in what someone has written, do not respond. I think this will be possibly a great list for all of us as we progress in our research and help one another and connect with family members and distant cousins.
Thanks for subscribing and we all look forward to sharing and connecting.
I think the best way to post your research connections are to select one surname and given name and what you know about that person. So the subject line would be:
Subject: PAPA, Federico
Body:
b. Senerchia 1842
Married to Rosaria Cozzi date unknown
To Chicago, IL about 1882
Add what other information you know about that person and your questions. That way, when someone sees a surname, they'll already be thinking about how they might be connected.
I haven't checked this morning, but we only had 7 people subscribed last night, so it may take some time for folks to find us. I'll try to make some posts about the mail list, so in your research online, please be sure to post a link to the mail list when you can.
More information is being uncovered and I may be traveling to Senerchia within the year. I've just started taking Italian lessons and am excited about the potential trip.
Be sure to post who you have in Senerchia to the mail list. Every one of the surnames you posted is connected to Senerchia, but we will need more specific information.
Many thanks, Denise, this is a great idea. I must learn how to upload
some photos of Senerchia that I took on a visit there a couple of
years ago!
Family connections include: Grillo, Meola, Del Giudice, Trimarco,
Mazzone
Best wishes
Ralph Grillo (UK).
Well, I see that several people have joined the mail list. Thank you
for joining. I know I should have thought of this a long time ago,
but at least it's better late than never.
Let's try to be patient as more people locate our mail list. If
anyone contacts you or you know someone else who may have Senerchia
ancestors, please let them know about this list. It is only going to
be for discussion of Senerchia families, ancestors, descendants, and
trips to Senerchia. Okay?
I think we will eventually figure out everything we need to know
since we are headed toward having a central place for mail and for
the website as we get things organized.
I hope you all enjoy the adventure and exploration.
Thanks.
Denise
