Right now I am working on the Alexander and Adkins/Atkins line in KY,
PA and IN. I've finally found that my Margaret 'Amanda' Adkins/Atkins
is the one that was first married to Jacob Rich. They were married
Sept. 17, 1854 in Jackson County IN. She then married my
gr-gr-grandfather, John H. Alexander.
I also have Allman, Bohall, Hovis, Jaynes, Hines, Willcutt/Wilcut in IN.
I have Beard, Bearden, Brock, Brown, Morgan, Raborn/Raburn and White
in the areas of AL, TN, NC, SC and VA.

We returned to summer weather for a few days. 80 deg. yesterday and
75deg. today. Had to run the Air conditioner again - but this will be
short lived. The big cold front coming across the SouthWest will be
arriving here this evening. We have a tornado alert at the present
time and storms coming which will bring the cooler temps. to us again.

I'm taking a rest from my own research at the present time, but I am
working on the Leonard family for a friend. I recently did some work
for him on his paternal side - Smith family line and found him to be a
distant cousin to my husband. I am now working on his maternal side
and this is not so easy.
1920 Census - New Haven Connecticut
John J. Leonard age 50
Annie M. age 46
John R. age 21
Anna M age 19
Rochard W. age 17
Elizabeth L. age 15
James A. age 12
William B age 10
Helen age 8
Mary age 5
I believe Elizabeth L. age 15 is the lady I am looking for. Have to
confirm this with my friend and then will see if we can take this
family a few generations back.

It's 33 here and dreary. Maybe a little snow later. But the weather
guy says it's going to be warm this weekend. He said maybe 60. I
have a feeling I will have the cough for a while longer.
My sister and I just went through about a dozen wallpaper sample books
and cut out what we wanted for scrapbooking. We got the books FREE at
the wallpaper store. They are no longer in needed in the store and
they often give them away. They are beautiful and acid-free. Perfect!
Sheri
Getting cooler today- high of only 65 deg. with a low of 45. Partly
sunny. I see where they had snow in New Orleans yesterday - now that
is a rarity.

It is cold here this morning. 24 degrees to be exact. My sister is coming for breakfast shortly and then it's to work. It's a nice way to start the day. You never appreciate brothers and sisters til your grown, do you? The weather guy still says it's going to be nice this weekend. Hope so!
Our temperature has been dropping all day. 62 deg. this morning and
57 deg. now. Windy, cool and overcast.
Hope you enjoyed your breakfast with your sister - nice to keep in
touch with siblings.

I am about to freeze. It is spitting snow and it has gotten to a big
high of 28 degrees. Winter is here.
I have 2 brothers and a sister. There is 17 years between me and her
so growing up we were not close. We've grown closer as the years
pass. It's nice have sibs.
I am a blogger, and I got started by reading blogs. There is a Christmas Tour of Blogs on right now in the blogger community. This is my favorite so far. Thomas is big on Christmas. If anyone would like to watch how a handful of things can become a beautiful celebration of the season you should have a look. Thomas has brought his ancestors into it, too. He always does. Here is how his Christmas is looking. Destination: Austin Family
The smell of cinnamon or gingerbread takes me right back to Grandma's
house at Christmas. To me that is the smell of the holiday.
Thomas always does it up big. It is beautiful.
(He's also a great go to tech guy.)

It's a cold 28 now. Not as bad as 18, but once it gets below freezing
it's all cold to me. It is a little cloudy but the sun is shining
through more than yesterday, so that is a good point.
My cousin sent me some photos overnight and I am very happy! One
photo of an uncle who died before I was born. I thought there was
only one photo of him but I was wrong! Lucky for me!!
Sheri
Hi guys glad I found you on yahoo. I joined on the Yuko site too.

We all know about Santa Claus that was in the 1930 Census in
Missouri. That was the big story going around several years ago.
This is one I found in a recent obituary in the southern part of

I love the smell of gingerbread. I have gotten into sourdough this Christmas too, so my kitchen smells like yeast now. I read on one website that a woman actually has the same sourdough starter that her ancestors brought with them on the Oregon trail in the 1840's! Imagine someone leaving their sourdough starter in a will, lol. --- In seekingourtwigs@yahoogroups.com, "Sheri" <sherilea54@...> wrote: > > The smell of cinnamon or gingerbread takes me right back to Grandma's > house at Christmas. I can't imagine anyone keeping a starter dough that long. I had one
several years ago, and had to finally give it up. I was baking all
the time to use the starter and of course adding to it to keep it
going. My husband gained ten pounds during that time and so we
decided, we didn't need all that baking.
Back in those days, I guess they worked off all those calories.

The main names I am researching are: Haines or Hines from Germany >USA (1750's) > Canada(1781), Desbiens (PQ>ON 1890), Tremblay (PQ>ON 1890),Doan,(PA>ON 1783) McQueen or Queen (Scot.1840's > ON), Neil or O'Neil (Ire. 1830's) > USA & Canada (Sandwich,1840's) and Fairbairn (Scot 1830) > USA > Canada (Sandwich, 1860's). --- In seekingourtwigs@yahoogroups.com, "lizziemaude" <no2more@...> wrote: > > Tell us who you are researching and a little about them. >
It's 41 here and damp. It is supposed to be warmer for the next week.
That means when it goes back to winter I will freeze! ! ! It's hard
to re-adjust to the cold.
My allergies are so bad I'm ready to go back to bed and pull the
covers over my head all day. I'm thinking about it. . . . .
Sheri
I think I looked at your Hines before. Where did they light when they
came here? I have mine back to NC. (IN > OH > NC) In NC it gets
muddied by every family's naming pattern being the same. I have to
sort through all the George's.

My sister is the cook. I always did the baking. All the birthday
cakes, etc. and deserts were up to me. I sort of got burned out. I
haven't done a lot of baking in a long time. I am beginning to want
to do it again. I'm going to make some cookies this week. See what
else I am in the mood for after that.
I just love the smell of baking maybe. Ok, so. . . . maybe the smell
of food :o) Gingerbread is the best though.
My grandmother would sprinkle whole cloves in her open windows in the
summertime. The sun would heat them up and the wind blow the aroma
gently through the house. It was wonderful. I remember that.

All the years I worked, I never had time for much baking. I did the
cooking and cleaning, but baking was an extra that took more time then
I felt I could handle. So once I quit working, I loved the idea of
spending more time in the kitchen baking. I guess tht is why I enjoy
baking for my grandchildren now - it is something my daughter missed
out on, but with her working and not having time - her's do not have to
miss out also. I try to do it when we are going to visit them,
otherwise too much of those goodies around the house could be bad for
my waistline. Nothing is better on a cold day, then to have something
in the oven baking, warming the house with wonderful aromas.
