Didn't do anything today except rest, blow my nose, and nurse my headache. My
sinus's are bothering me so I took a hot shower and stood in the steam to help
drain them. Helped a little but I still feel crummy. No improvement tomorrow
and I will go to a Dr. to see if it is bacterial or just a plain old cold.

help with the cold after more sleep tonight.

sunny, warm and breezy. Storm brewing in the South and bringing us the winds.
Rain expected from it by late tomorrow. Feeling better today. Talked to my
Doctor yesterday and he says it is only a cold. No matter how bad I feel, it
is only a cold. So I took some tylenol, got rid of the sinus headache, drank
some more honey tea with lemon and sneezed, coughed and blew my nose. Today I
felt good enough to shampoo my hair and fix me up to appear presentable and
starting to do chores again. A little at a time, with some rests inbetween, but
starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.
Hope you ladies are doing well.

Warm today, in the '70's

Norma I think I might make it too, lol. I'm still congested but better than yesterday.

I bought a book binding machine at my neighbour's yard sale a couple of months ago, it was $5 and came with a package of  combs. I started playing with it this morning, I think I'll make some cookbooks for Christmas this year.

Glad to hear you are doing better also Earline. I am still sounding terrible
and bad cough, but not enough to keep me out of my pool today. I missed it
while I was away and couldn't wait to get back in.
Earline, what does a bookbinding machine look like and how does it work. You
mention combs, I would have no idea how to use one let alone be able to know
what one looked like. Sounds to me like you got a good deal. I like your
idea of the cookbooks. You could also add some history to the cookbook if you
can tie the recipes to any Ancestor. Make for interesting reading.
Sheri you have had a bad summer, I hope with the weather changing you will be
doing better .

I just googled the bookbinding machine and it appears you got a good deal
Earline. They seem to range in price from 100.00 up to 500.00 and more. I'd
say you did well.

Norma, the one I got is manual, it's probably about $50 new but it'll come in handy. I don't have very many family recipes except my dad used to make pea soup, johnny cake and hickory nut bread that he learned from his French-Canadian mother. Grandma didn't use cookbooks, she did it from memory, she couldn't read English.

Back to seasonal temps today and I didn't get a chance to enjoy the warm
weather. Norma it looks like Sandy might hit your area, I hope you don't get
much damage from it.

I finished my 4th newsletter, sent to be proof-read yesterday. The different
branches are doing projects for the UELAC centennial in 2014, our branch decided
to do a book compiling stories about our loyalist ancestors that have been in
past newsletters and we're taking submissions for the next year. It won't be
biographical, just family stories, research surprises etc.

Yes, Sandy is doing it's job on us. Yesterday afternoon, last night and from
what I gather, well into tomorrow, we will be getting rain squalls from the
outter bands of Sandy. High winds, heavy rains at times but nothing should be
damaging. We still have most of our hurricane shutters up. Geo. took down
the ones in the dining room to have visibility to the front of the house and the
computer room so it would not be so dark. Other then that, we are still covered
from flying twigs, branches etc.
My cold is almost all better, just a little congestion left, but not enough to
stop me from my chores. Have to iron some today, missed Monday and after our
trip, I have a boatload of ironing. May break it down into two days, today and
the balance on Monday. Playing it by ear.
The rain is good so not complaining about that, and hopefully, this will be the
last one of the season. We are going to leave the shutters up until after
Thanksgiving. by that time the last of the storms should be over. We had a
very good Hurrican Season again this year will most of the storms going up the
atlantic away from land.
Will think abut researching again after the Holidays. The time seems to fly so
fast.

Sandy is on her way here, it's been raining and blowing since yesterday afternoon, it's supposed to pick up after midnight to 65mph. Our shutters are only decorative.

She is a big storm and covers a lot of area.  Stay inside away from falling trees and debris.   Our daughter lost power yesterday and have no idea if it has been restored yet.  Shutters would be nice if you could close them, we still have our hurricane shutters up on most of the windows, but our highest wind gust only got up to 55 mph.  From the looks of the map, you could be getting the effects of the storm also, Sheri.  Stay safe.

Yes, she's a big storm, blizzards too. My oldest son is working in Midland this week, about 100 miles north of Toronto, the wind warning is up there too so he's probably sitting in the motel again today. At least I hope he's not out in it working.

Stay safe.

Yes, Sandy is doing it's job on us. Yesterday afternoon, last night and from what I gather, well into tomorrow, we will be getting rain squalls from the outter bands of Sandy. High winds, heavy rains at times but nothing should be damaging. We still have most of our hurricane shutters up. Geo. took down the ones in the dining room to have visibility to the front of the house and the computer room so it would not be so dark. Other then that, we are still covered from flying twigs, branches etc.
My cold is almost all better, just a little congestion left, but not enough to stop me from my chores. Have to iron some today, missed Monday and after our trip, I have a boatload of ironing. May break it down into two days, today and the balance on Monday. Playing it by ear.
The rain is good so not complaining about that, and hopefully, this will be the last one of the season. We are going to leave the shutters up until after Thanksgiving. by that time the last of the storms should be over. We had a very good Hurrican Season again this year will most of the storms going up the atlantic away from land.
Will think abut researching again after the Holidays. The time seems to fly so fast.

Happy Hallowe'en, I hope the weather cooperates for the kids tonight. I don't
expect too many, It has been too windy to do any decorating outside this year.
The kids usually go to newer subdivisions, they think they'll get better candy.
We always give out full-size chocolate bars because we don't have hundreds of
kids to buy for. We got our pumpkins 2 weeks ago, 3 out of 4 are rotten already
and they weren't even carved yet.

Norma, how is your cold, is it gone yet? Mine is hanging on, still congested,
coughing, sneezing. It's the longest-running cold I've had in my life. Usually
it runs it's course in a few days, it's been almost 2 weeks now, hubby's is
still around and he had it a few days before he gave it to me. Maybe it's a
Supercold!lol

Earline, I still have it, but the congestion is getting less and less each day.   This is the worst cold I believe I have ever had in my lifetime.   I never had one to get me down like this where I felt so tired and listless.   My energy level is returning but not as fast as I would like.
It is very cold here for Halloweeners.   We are having January weather with that cold front that came in behind Sandy.  We don't get many anymore, they have grown up and move on to home parties.   I don't even buy candy for them anymore.   Leave the porch/post light off and keep it dark until after 9:00.   We can stay in our computer room and watch TV or play on the computer which is in the back of the house away from the street and no one can tell we are home.
I must be getting old and crotchedity, because I don't enjoy the little munchkin's anymore.    One or two and I want it over.

Norma, it's the neighbour kids while their parents are getting ready and the grand-kids and nieces and nephews that come so I don't mind. I usually make a treat for them as well, this year I'm making "Eyeballs", peanut butter balls dipped in white chocolate and decorated with Smarties (Canadian M+Ms). Hubby usually gives out the candy but he has pool league tonight. We even dressed up last year. The one neighbour has a lot of fun on Halloween, he decorates his work trailer and garage like a haunted house, his twin boys and their friends get dressed up and hide in the "house". If you want a treat you have to go through it to get to the treat.

Sounds like a lot of fun.   George is "bah humbug" with trick or treaters, so maybe that's why I don't have the enthusiasm anymore.  It's more fun when you have someone to share with.

Received some bad news today. When we were living in Fairfax, we had a
neighbor who's youngest daughter was a year younger then our daughter. They
became good friends, and so whereever we went we took Jeri with us to keep our
Kim company. She traveled with us all over, Her mother was a single Mom. So
she became like our adopted daughter. On Monday, her husband sold the truck he
had up for sale and needed a ride home from work. He called Jeri and asked her
to pick him up on her way home. She never got there. She was involved in a
head on collision and both drivers were killed. The other driver lost control
of his big 2000 cadillac hit the side of the road and bounced back in front of
Jeri, driving a 2007 Lexus, she had no where to go. She was 55, a five year
survivor of breast Cancer and mother of two beautiful boys and Grandmother of
one, with one due in December. The family is devastated, as is my daughter and
my family. She will be buried Sat. after they collect her organs, she was a
doner.
On a good note, my grand neice delivered a healthy baby boy this afternoon.
Conner, William Roman. The William is after her father, my brother and my
father and my great grandfather. This is my sister-in-laws first great
grandchild.

Chilly, breezy and damp today.

My plans for doing banking are on hold for a while today, power is out for a couple of hours, a truck hit a pole with the main line to town on it. I just made coffee before it went out so I put it in a thermos.

Windy and cool today, new storm approaching from the North with cold, dry, air.
Early winter. Covering the pool with the blanket today. The water is too cold
for swimming now. Maybe in a few weeks or so we will warm up again, and I may
consider removing the cover, but for now, it is out of the question.

Frosty 25 this morning. I'm looking forward to a warm-up this weekend to finish my yard work.

I've been doing some baking this week,  some for hubby's lunches, some for the Nov. branch meeting on Saturday.  Hubby's working so I'm going with my d-i-l.

51 deg. here this morning, windy, cool but sunny.   Have some paperwork to catch up on, then on to finish planning our Anniversary get together for thanksgiving.  Most of the planning was finished months ago, this is just the mop up for the little details.

Warmer today.

That reminds me, my in-laws 50th anniversary is coming up in a month, I would like to do something for them.
I signed up for "The Honey Badger's Burrow", a free Canadian genealogy newsletter from Kathryn Hogan of LOOKING4ANCESTORS.
She's been our branch genealogist for 5 years and she's done next May to concentrate on her genealogy business and we're trying to find a replacement for her.

Earline - perhaps you can get hubbies siblings together and al take his Mom and Dad someplace nice for dinner?  You could send them some flowers with one gold one?   Or get together with the siblings and work on something together that they had in mind.
I am working on a Program schedule for our Anniversary, for what we have planned during the time we are in Myrtle Beach.   I have a picture of Geo. and I on our wedding day on the front, inside, the schedule for each day, including meals and on the back a picture of us now.   A little tweeking to do and then it is ready to print out.   The Resort is giving the young-uns their own credit cards to use in the Restaurants for meals which all gets charged back to our account, and tickets for all breakfast meals in their Gazebo Restaurant.   They have a fantastic buffet breakfast.  Little by little it is coming together.  We have a large limo van to take us all to the Ice Show so no one has to drive or gets lost.   They have 14 indoor, outdoor pools and spas for them to enjoy in their free time, plus putt, putt golf and other amenities such as a work out room, game arcade, etc.   I hope it is enough to keep the Great Grandchildren occupied.   My daughter has an old friend from Virginia that married and lives just about a half hour north of Myrtle Beach and she is going to drive down and join us on Friday, which is a free day of activities.
Should all work out well, I hope.

Norma, it sounds like you are going to have a fun anniversary celebration! I asked hubby last week to call his brothers but he didn't get around to it yet. I'll ask my m-i-l about it today, see what they have planned if anything. With all of the Christmas parties next month we should get some place reserved asap.

Windy and cool today, new storm approaching from the North with cold, dry, air. Early winter. Covering the pool with the blanket today. The water is too cold for swimming now. Maybe in a few weeks or so we will warm up again, and I may consider removing the cover, but for now, it is out of the question.

Earline, we reserved our spot a year in advance.   Then it took us another 6 months to pick a date that was amiable for all to be there.   Because of work, etc. they picked the Thanksgiving time because they all would have more time off from work.  We locked in the Resort then.   The rest has been lining up things to do besides the Thanksgiving dinner.
Since then, my Granddaughter has seperated from her husband of over ten years, and they were going to drive down.   Now she doesn't want to drive down alone with her daughter, and I can't get a direct flight for her, so we are trying to cancel our daughters air flight so that she can drive to her daughters and then the three will drive down together.  The dinner cruise I wanted for Friday, does not run that day because of the Holiday on Thursday. They run Sat. but my family are all leaving Sat. so they have Sun. to rest up before they go back to work.   So it has been one hic-cup after another, but one that we hope to have ironed out by this week-end.

my Pneumonia shot today and feeling a little puny. I think it might have been
just a little too soon after I got rid of my cold. Actually, I think I still
have a little infection in the sinus. Lost all sense of taste and smell, so
had to go see the ears, nose and throat doctor today. He wants to do a ct.
scan of the sinus to see if that is the cause. Have that scheduled for after
thanksgiving.
Hope all is well with you two ladies.

Our temperatures have returned to their normals for this time of the year. Put
the blanket on the pool yesterday, the temps. going down at night make the water
too cool for swimming during the day. Packing our suit cases and getting ready
to leave on Tues. morning for Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It is going to seem
weird coming home, and no left over turkey. Don't remember when I have not
fixed a bird for the Holiday. It will be nice to see all the family.
