Another month has slipped quickly away. We had a nice rain storm yesterday
afternoon. Rained hard and steady for at least an hour, so we have some much
needed rain and just after we transplanted our trees.
Earline, here is some information on Irish Search:These are the Irish
transcribed records on the LDS web site.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

Ireland: transcribed not digitalized records
     Ireland births & baptisms, 1620-1881
     Ireland deaths, 1864-1870
     Ireland marriages, 1619-1898
     Ireland, Civil registrations indexes, 1845-1958

Spelling counts for church, Townland, county, etc. but surnames are searched
by a wide possibility of spelling.

I found a few of my ancestors in there, but not all so not sure if they haven't
finished transcribing or if the records are incomplete.

Connecticut State Archivist Nicholas Bellantoni will use a radar device to
search for the exact location of the original meeting houses of the First
Congregational Church of Ridgefield.

The project is part of the church's preparation to celebrate its 300th
anniversary in 2012.

69 with a high of 86

We went out to my son's for a bbq yesterday for his birthday, we are going back
out for my granddaughter's birthday today. They usually have one party for both
but she wants to have her own party this year.
My son, the birthday boy, just about didn't have to celebrate any more birthdays
and I'll bet I have a few more new grey hairs. He made a potato gun a couple of
years ago and he was using aerosol hairspray to to shoot it. Well the hairspray
wasn't working so he decided to put a little acetelene in it. We were sitting
there and there was a big explosion. He was lucky, the back of the gun blew off
and hit him in the thigh, if he would have been holding it any further up he
probably would have had severe injuries. He'll be sore today.

We picked most of our corn yesterday, the ears are thinner than usual, the ears
must have stopped growing and started to mature after it was blown down. It
wasn't a total loss anyway.

He is a very lucky person - Anything in an aerosol can is basically an explosive
waiting to happen. They even tell you to be carefull around fire with empty
cans, because they will explode also. I have happy that he didn't get any more
then that, he could have lost his fingers, hand or even burnt his face. No
need to tell him now, I guess he learned a valuable lesson.
The Factory my father worked in made amunition, during the war. In peace time
they converted to making aerosol spray cans. They put a gas in the can which
expands and expells the ingredient - be it hair spray, paint or whatever.
After it is empty, the gas is all that is left - an explosive.

Hard to believe we would have a summer this hot after a winter so unbearably cold.   I still remember how cold it was, so I am still not complaining about the heat, but I have spent more time in my pool this year that I have in the past.
Happy Birthday to your daughter and may she have many, many more.  As my daughter says:  "Party Hearty"!!     Is your step-dad doing better now?
I've gone back to working on my Sullivans again and I can well understand how they can all look alike.   With the naming patterns of the Irish, every generation has all the same names.   We don't have exact dates on many and that is the only way to figure who belongs to whom.  I am trying to take advantage of the new information put out by Ancestry.com.

78 already, going to high 80's, humid, rain later

I helped hubby put up a fence yesterday, just the small front fence by the deck.
My son showed up and helped build the gate while I supervised. Next weekend the
back fence is going up.

Hot and muggy again but some clouds to keep it a little cooler.
Went for my sonagram for the kidney again this morning. No change, all is
well.
Now, I have no idea what I want to do today - hard to get started when the
morning is disrupted - my mind is discombobbled. Hate to start big jobs.
when in doubt - dust!!

Glad your son came by to help Earline. Jobs are easier with the right kind of
muscle.

Sheri - enjoy your Birthday Party

It is going to be hot today.  Maybe break records, according to the weather guy.  I have an early day, hopefully will be home early and not have the terrible heat later.

Now working only census for Brocks.  Need to clean it all up!  I even dream about them.  May be time for a real break.  LOL

Have to pick up the cake later today, and some ice cream.  Not going to eat it, will just sit on it in the car.....LOL  Drink it though a straw when I get home.

75 going to 90, thunderstorms later

I think I'll start sewing cushions this morning, I have to keep the dogs inside,
they're paving the alley and the dogs will be barking continuously.
I haven't been getting much blogging or researching done at all lately, I'll get
back to it when the work on the boat is finished.

Same ole weather here - no changes. Today was a day for puttering and putting
the finishing touches on the end of jobs. Had to reconcile my Statements from
the Brokers and get those files up to date. Did Bank statements last week, so
paperwork is getting out of the way, which keeps the piles down. I refuse to
let them grow again and get out of hand. Still have more scanning to do, but it
takes me as long to decide if I need them or if I can just enter data rather
then scanning. But progress is still being made. Yesterday I spent a few
hours on the Irish records looking for those elusive Sullivans. They are
starting to come together little by little. A new Parent here, a sibling there
and the whole family is emerging. All I had before was the direct line only.

I like ice cream with a straw - so much easier to get down. The cold hurts my
teeth.

Now it is time to go cool off in the pool.

No change in the weather - hot and humid. Got to take my car in for service
this morning. Going to look at new ones while I am there. If I can get a
sweetheart deal, I may purchase a new one, otherwise, I will keep the one I
have. I am looking for another van, but want one a little smaller so I have
more room in the garage and one that gets better gas mileage. The new 2011
models are coming out so it is usually a good time to get a good deal on the
2010 model. I hate purchasing new cars - such a hassel, but I can't resist a
good deal if there is one.

Well, the Salesman and I went around and around and we crunched numbers and
recrunched numbers but we could not come to a meeting of the two. He wants two
thousand more then I want to give. Finally, my old car was ready from the
service dept. so I took that home and saved me a lot of money. I never even
got to a test drive or sit inside the car. IF he calls me with a better offer,
I may go down to look at the car and test drive it then we will talk turkey
again. In the meantime, my car is running like a top again and except for the
trouble Ihave fitting it in the garage, there is nothing wrong. with it. We
have a narrow two car garage and the two of us park inside, but if Geo. doesn't
leave me enough room, I can't get my door open to get out of the car once I get
parked.
I put one sheet on the line before I left this morning and it got rained on
before I got home. I am rinsing it again and will hang it in the garage and
finish the other sheet tomorrow. Geo. was supposed to watch it, but he mowed
the lawn and came in to rest and that is when the rains came. He had the mower
out yet, so had to go dry that down and put it away - of course, the sheet was
the last thing on his mind.

last week, so paperwork is getting out of the way, which keeps the piles down.
I refuse to let them grow again and get out of hand. Still have more scanning
to do, but it takes me as long to decide if I need them or if I can just enter
data rather then scanning. But progress is still being made. Yesterday I
spent a few hours on the Irish records looking for those elusive Sullivans.
They are starting to come together little by little. A new Parent here, a
sibling there and the whole family is emerging. All I had before was the
direct line only.

High of 88 today, humid, dropping to 80 by 7pm.

I've got the largest 2 cushions sewn and I'm taking a break outside and it's
still hot and muggy, no cold front yet, it's getting pretty breezy though.
The engine is going to be put in the boat this weekend but neither of us has our
boater's licenses yet, I'm hoping to get mine next week, I don't drive so it'll
be interesting. So I have til one of us is licensed to finish the reupholstry.

Little cooler this morning but it will be another hot and muggy day before it is
over. Rained a little in the afternoon yesterday and I think that is what
cooled it down.
Making good progress Earline, I know you will enjoy them when they are finished.
I finally installed Brothers Keeper on this computer. I had installed it on
the other one but procrastinated putting it on this one, because I still liked
my old version 5.2. Well, now I found that I can get the old look on the newer
version by just going to the edit button, so I am really delighted with it now.
Amazing what a little exploring will do. I should have done that sooner. After
I make sure that everything and everyone transferred and converted from 5 to 6,
I will take the old version 5 off the cpu. I feel like it will be loosing an
old friend, but much more pleased with the new one now.
Yesterday, I found where my Daniel Sullivan, Jr. was buried in Colchester, Ct.
which was a surprise to me. I thought he had moved to New York. I knew he had
one daughter, so did some research on her and found where she lived in the town
next to ours all her life and didn't died until 1978. Mom died in 1969, and I
have a feeling she never knew her cousin, once removed, was so close.

It is so hard to switch to a different program.  I don't know now why I waited so long.  I love RM.  I had to remove the old FTM so I wouldn't use it in frustration though.  The programs are so different.  Now I am so pleased about the new one.  I'm glad you can make your program look like its' old version.  Something familiar is always nice.  My favorite part of RM is the sourcing ability.  It makes it almost painless.  Notice I said 'almost'.  You still have to enter them.....LOL

Finally got some rain and a really wild lightening storm.  Cooled it a little.  I have the door open and the locusts are singing so loudly I am deaf to all else.  Today will be warm and sunny.

Birthday week is over and it's back to normal operations....:o)  This weekend the National Guard will be practicing again.  I hate it.  The da** choppers deafen you, and they fly so low the entire building shakes.  I don't understand how all this can prepare them for the big sand box.  I know several of the boys in the exercises and I don't want to see them messed up 'over there'.  I know one of them wants to make several jumps this time because they pay the guy for every jump.   He's hopeful he can go several times.  The last time there was so much wind that it caught his chute just before he hit the ground and he was injured and still hasn't completely healed.  I can't say that I am proud of what we are doing anywhere in the world.  It could be that in the search for "rock-stardom", the news people forget to cover the good things in the world.  It's not really news anymore, just sensationalism.  I think I need a 'news-less' weekend.  B.O. has been such a disappointment.  And we had such hope . . . . . .

I've had a couple of days without a lot of genealogy getting done and I am ready to dive in!  I feel fresh which is always good!

Yes it is, I am bringing to the top the article I wrote about it that probably
got missed or lost. I am always so pleased when I see a City or Town do
somethng about retainig Historical buildings or researching them. So many of
Ridgefields descendents are still living in that community some 300 years later,
and want to preserve the towns buildings and heritage. The Charm of the little
Village is what brings the big buck people from New York to summer there and
those big bucks are what makes all this possible.

56 with a high of 80, it's almost chilly this morning

So much for the boat engine being done this weekend, the guy that was supposed
to do it took off for Pelee Island last night for the weekend. He's been
promising to do it for a couple of months now, it was suppposed to be done
before we went on vacation, we're getting frustrated, hubby's about to take it
somewhere else. He had the nerve to ask hubby if he'll help another guy pull his
motor out today, hubby said he's too busy. I'm going to search for instructions
on the internet for changing boat motors and see how difficult it is, maybe
hubby and the boys can do it themselves.

Now that is a very interesting building.  You can't get anything historical here saved.  It took years and years to get the library accessible.

Nice this morning. It's also very quiet here in the building. Not often a
Saturday morning is quiet.

I found out last night that hotmail is not delivering a lot of mail either way.
In the middle of my trying to figure it out, the thing threw me to a page
wanting me to verify my email. I was pretty steamed to learn that my empty box
was not because I had no mail. It was just not getting into my box. A lot of
my emails were not getting out either. Anyway I sent out a test email to my
account in gmail last night and waited. Nothing. This morning it was in my
hotmail box with a delivery failure notice on it. Well I am back to gmail for
my lists and here for the group. Very frustrating. <sigh>

I took a break from Brock research yesterday. Nice.

They referred to that building as a Meeting Hall, so I wonder if they used it as
a Church for different denominations or if it was just another name for the
church since it was used for more then one function. I will have to see if I
can find more information on that one. Amazing enough, I found that one of
the persons on the Historial Committee pushing for these restorations etc. is
named David Scott - the same as the original founder. I don't know him, or who
he could be descended from, but he could be another relative I may have to check
out. As far as George's direct line, to our knowledge, there is only one
cousin left in his family still living there.

A slight breeze out there this morning - still hot and humid but the breeze
makes it more tolerable.
I worked on pruning the bougaviellia this morning. Near ate me up before I
quit. That thing has thornes that make a rose look like bumps. Has some fern
vines entangled along with some other vines that were choking it out. I cut a
great deal back, but had to quit when I got too hot and sweaty. Filled up a
trash can, and will try to get the rest finished next week. Thinned out some of
my aloe plants that were multiplying like rabbits and got rid of the ones that
outgrew their usefulness. Then I jumped in the pool to cool down and now I am
in for the rest of the afternoon.
Earline - I don't envy your hubby with that job, but it looks like if he wants
it done, that is the only way to do it. I make the assumption that it is an
inboard motor. Does he have a hoist to get it out? The biggest problems my
Dad had was making sure he lined up the shaft when re-installing and caulk
around that shaft good when finished. Don't want all that work to go down in
the lake.
Sheri - maybe that is why we have seen as many posts for you lately, they have
been going to cyber space?

I have my Rudolph and his first cousin Hans Michel (John Michael) both came to this country.  Rudolph is the son of Caspar and Hans the son of Caspars' brother Hans Conrad.  Hans, John Michael, came first, arriving in New York in mid 1710, on the fifth party of Palatines from Rotterdam via England.  He moved to Pennsylvania and then to Virginia.

My direct ancestor, Rudolph Brack (Brock in the USA) immigrated in 1733, from Basle to Rotterdam to England, aboard ship "Hope" listing Rudolph Brack 47, his Anna Brack 36,  and his children; Christiana 11, Frederick 14, Magdalena 8.  DNA shows that my line is from Frederick (Fred).  I just have to link, with proof, to one of Fredericks' sons.  That, it turns out, is the really hard part.  Several of them have a Henry.

The truth is I am not sure of my Henry.  He was from my cousins work.  She is a good and careful researcher but I am not sure that she was correct here.  The information on Henry came from a Bible that had his original date, 1764 marked out and 1770 wrote in at a later time.  Once a source is changed I don't quite trust it myself.  Henry is in the 1850 census with Elbert (his son and my direct ancestor) and lists his age as 80.  That would put his birth at the right time.  However, in 1860 he is living with son Lawrence and he lists his age as 100.  The 1764 date is right in the middle, 1770 would be figured from the 1850 census.  My cousin also lists him as Henry J. and I have found NO listing with him as Henry J.  <sigh> I would feel a lot better about it if it all matched.  I have also seen a lot of evidence from other researchers that the children listed as his in this, unseen by me, bible as belonging to someone else and they do have a good argument.  My other doubt is the fact that they are saying his (Henrys') father has to be Issac (s/o Rudolph)  because son Elbert (3rd son of Henry)  named his first son Isaac.  Sad little reason to me.  If we are going by the so called 'naming patterns' we are going to have to lose most of Henry's children and start over.

Something is missing.  I just can't put my finger on it.  #-o

Too bad when people make changes they don't initial and date them so that you know who made the change and in what year.   Another unknown is who wrote the dates in the Bible originally.   My gut feeling is to go with the dates in the bible.   Not knowing who made the changes, you might make the assumption that it was made, thinking that the Census age would be correct, and as we all know, that is a big farse.   I can see where you would have a big problem.   Have you checked any Geneaogy Libraries, to see if possibly there is a book out on the Brock family?    Most families that came over that early are picked up either in a local history or someone early on wrote about their family and published them.    I can see where DnA helps, but still does not give all the answers.

I have actually found a book online, "Frederick Brock, 1719 - 1807" by
Clarence C. Brock, and was able to download. He stops with the
generation of Fredericks' children. His grandchildren are listed mostly
as son 1790 - 1818, etc. Some do have areas which does help. I also
learned that this family is tied to the Southern Indiana Brock families
which my Dad wanted so much to know if they were family. Unfortunately
he is not here to know that I have the answer, finally. It is YES!
George (John Georg) Brock, Fredericks' brother, came here with his
family, and most of his family stayed.

Well, anyway there are two other books I know of. One by Robert Brock
and one by Scott Dingler, whom I believe is my kin, coming from Rudolph,
but I don't know about Robert. I do know Scotts' material as a lot of
it is still online. He had trouble with placing Henry before I did. I
have also read "The Greenville Century Book" 1903 by S.S. Crittenden.
It is 100 years of Greenville, South Carolina history. It does have
Brock information in it. It is at Google books. I'm still going
through it when I can get the urge to read. I will have to look into
where I can get the 2 Brock histories.

It just seems to me the bible was changed to fit someones idea of who
our family was. It seems to deliberately match the 1850 census. I
think he didn't even know how old he was:o) It wasn't real important to
them back then.

The choppers have already invaded. It is going to be a long, long
night. The city and county tried to stop this in the beginning and the
military told us all to take a long hike off a short pier.
OK. I have to shut up or get mad.........:o(

One of the stories I will have to remember to put in my memoirs - when we first moved to Hawaii, we had to go on a housing list to wait for housing on Base.   So for the first year, we rented a house on a street that ended at what they called a rain forrest.   That Jungle area was used for Marine training.   They would have exercises during the night playing war games.   Someone told me they did not use live amunition, but it sounded real and they would drop flares from the sky to light up an area and then the shooting would begin.   It was so close, that there was more then one occasion that I ducked and dropped to the floor.   During the dark of the night, it always seemed louder and closer.   The houses over there are single wall construction, and we had louvers under the windows for air circulation rather then opening windows.   Just like living in the outdoor which made it all louder.   On nights when Geo. had the duty, I would be scared out of my whits.   I would put Kim to bed on the opposite side of the house and told her not to walk around.
I can sympathize with your situation, I moved on base the following year and even though we were still close to the war games, Base housing was all made out of concrete block, so I felt more secure.

75(his morning, high of 89, looks like the cool temps are gone for the next
week.

The boys came over and helped put up the back fence yesterday, it looks great.
The dogs don't like it, they can't see out in the alley and the fence is higher,
Angus used to jump up in the air like a kangaroo to see over the old fence,
scaring anyone using the alley.

Sheri, I don't know what's up with your hotmail, all of my contacts for Hotmail,
messenger and Windows Live got deleted a few months ago when I changed my
password. I haven't gotten around to adding them again, I'm waiting until all of
the changes with Windows Live are done and it's more stable.

Norma, yes, it is an inboard motor, the old one has to be taken out,
we bought a newly rebuilt engine for it a couple of months ago hubby uses the
winch on his tow-truck to lift the engines, he helps our neighbour out quite a
bit, so that's why he offered to do our boat. I told hubby to hire him to do it,
maybe it'll get done.

Oh my! That would be so scary. Here it will be just noisy choppers and
airplanes(I hope). This time they invited the public out to take photos, so
that is different from the last time. So far this morning it has been quiet. I
live on the very southern edge of town, not far from the airport. They do most
of the jumping there. That would be so scary, live ammo or not. Sometimes they
are on the ground in town. Last time it was quite an operation. They let ropes
down in town and the boys shimmied down, big army trucks everywhere and big
choppers hovering over neighborhoods. I am not going out today so I won't know
if that is the plan today. I hope there is no wind this time....:o)

I hope you got to enjoy Hawaii while you were there. I would get there and
refuse to leave. What an interesting life you have, Norma.
