It is difficult to research and then record the data and sources.   It is always more fun doing the research - so I believe I am and will always be a little behind.

Hello all!  Lovely day today.  Temp was 46 degrees when I got up so it is going to be a really nice day.  The sun is finally shining!
Still working hard on source entry.  Hope to have them all in today on the Janes/Jaynes family.  I'm actually thinking of just adding the files onto each other as I work.  It might be easier to work on one major line at a time but it would be easier to handle one big file when sending it or moving it.  RootsMagic has the RootsMagic ToGo program to put on a Flash drive and take along.  Our library allows you to work on a Flash.  So one big file would be easier in that respect, and that is the important respect now.  I'm free to take it along without a laptop.
Need to be able to change with the times and the new tech.

It looks like the real thing from the outside, but it's not as heavy and when you
take the back off, on the inside it says made in China and it is electric, Rolex
doesn't make electric watches. I hope someone didn't pay full price for it and
found out it was a couterfeit later.

I started researching new branches for a change instead of trying to break
through my brick walls. I started doing my Libby line because I wanted to find
out more about my "Smile for the Picture #12" blog.

I have to learn to update myself to the new technology systems. I noticed that
they are using flash at the local FHC to download files instead of printing them
out. Dummer me is paying 15 cents a sheet for print outs while I can get the
same thing on flash for free, which would also make it easier to download to the
cpu when I get home. I have a spare flash that I could carry with me.

I have to say something about a program. I have been using RootsMagic 4 working
on my file. Really working. I've been doing a lot of source citations. I have
not had to go try to find how to cite a source one time using version 4. I was
not happy with RM3. I was thinking of regretting the purchase. But 4 is
different. It is VERY friendly and has an excellent source/cite system. It is
no longer called the wizard. It is simply the way you enter sources.
Just my 2 cents worth!

I hate to sound stupid Sheri, I know absolutely nothing about RM3 or RM4, are you saying that you have to enter everything from scratch or do you mean that you just have to enter source information.   Will it not let you gedcom the information from one to another?

Sheri, I agree, the source citation is a lot easier in the RM4. I've been
entering some new lines into my program, it's easier to use than the RM3.

Norma, I carry my flash drive with me all the time, I just keep it in my purse.
I have my Rootsmagic-to-go on it, and can open it up anywhere and edit it. I
thought that it would be a lite program, but it's the full program and I can
update my files on my computers afterward automatically by just plugging it in.

Norma,
I've been catching up on my entering.  I imported my gedcom easily.  What I am doing is entering information that I have been letting pile up.  Most of it sources.  Actually, tons of sources. :o)  I have also entered individuals I have also picked up along the way.  It has been a while since I entered in the Janes/Jaynes file.  I usually work on paper.  I started that way and I can't seem to break the habit.  I also have gone through my notes for this file and entered information that didn't fit til now.  And cleaned up the file along the way.  Merging, connecting etc.
I thought I would put how the program was working on the board so that it would come up in search for anyone that was looking for recommendations on programs.  A review I suppose.
You've been working with a newer version of Brother's Keeper.  You should put a review on the board.
I'm really liking this one.  I am a little tired of working though.  I will be done today if nothing happens, and I will take a break before moving on to my next file.  I have to update my online Janes/Jaynes file on WorldConnect too.

Just finished up on my Janes.  I am backing it up now.  Very happy, I am!!

OK, very good.   I don't work much on paper anymore.   I keep maybe's or what if's on paper, but once they are confirmed, they go into my file.   Sources are something I am very lax with and have not worked with the updated version of Brothers Keeper yet to be able to give any sort of report.   I will as soon as I finish scanning my sources and getting them on line for safe keeping.   Then, maybe I can get them into some sort of order, so that I can update the files one family at a time.    Right now, they are in a jumble.   The only order they are in now, is the way they were received - by mail or by copies from FHC.   What a nightmare!!!!!

I'm going to go Easter shopping for the grandchildren this morning. I'm making
their treats, egg-shaped popcorn balls and egg-shaped merengues. I'll add ears
and tail to some to make bunnies. I'm going to the bulk food store to get
decorations. I want to pick up an ice cream cake to take too.

I found someone on the Roots-Kerry list that was advertising that he was going
to Dublin to do some look-ups and would be glad to do a look up for anyone
interested -for a fee. He lives in County Cork. I took him up on the offer.
I made a request for two certificates - one for a marriage and one for a birth.
He wanted $10 uros. I told him I know nothing about uros - how do I pay. He
said he would take $20.00 for both -American cash. Not a bad deal, when I know
from joining one of the Irish sites over the week-end that 10 dollars uro is
equal to $16.01 American. He will be going next week, so I am keeping my
fingers crossed that he can help me.

It's a terrible thing to say but not everyone is serious enough to research everyday, or follow up on contacts.  I have a cousin that only wants to take pictures or once in a while take a trip to a library for research.

I have some of my contacts on my Facebook friends. I was thinking about emailing
one that I haven't heard from lately, and there are a few in Quebec, one from my
O'Neil family, that I haven't heard back from.

going to 55, just stopped raining here
I didnt' turn the computer on at all yesterday, I took a day off. I'm not
babysitting this morning, both of the kids are home sick from school, so Mom
stayed home. Maybe I'll go out and do some yard work when it dries up a bit. It
looks like all of my bulbs survived the transplanting into the front garden, at
least there's a lot of leaves. I don't know how many flowers there will be this
spring.

Sheri
It's not a terrible thing to say - it is probably the truth. She did say when
she first responded that she had been terribly busy, so perhaps there is
something going on in her life that I don't know and don't need to know.

Earline
I think that is a good idea and if I was smart, I would email her again - just
to make sure that she received my last one or as a reminder to her that I didn't
get a response.

We had some terrible storms yesterday. Our immediate area did well, we had
minor branches and such come down with no real damage, but just a few miles to
our North - it was much more severe. Some of the winds were almost Hurricane
strength - or equal to a tornado. Tornadic activity in the area, but don't
think any actualy touched down. Had I gone to the Family History Center I
could have had auto damage according to my friendly Librarian there. She said
the parking lot was full of branches, twigs, metal from roofs and screening from
patios.
