Hi Trish, Just letting you know I picked up the
book today at the B&N on Route 10 in (i think) East
Hanover...It was in of all places the "Travel" section under
"New Jersey" which is their version of
"Regional"..<br><br>Havent had a chance to really look thru it, but it is
nicely laid out and has all the information you could
need...Altho for some wierd reason they don't list addresses -
just phone numbers...I do like the # of years in
business tho..<br><br>The other thing that concerned me
was that it was a 1998 book that didnt look to have
an annual update..And in these businesses, it should
be updated at least annually.. It also makes looking
at the # years in business more important!<br><br>As
this group gets more people, I hope it can turn into a
similar source of information of people looking to find
contracters, etc in the Scotch Plains area..<br><br>Thanks again
for the book recommendation! Im sure it will be quite
helpful as Spring arrives...<br><br>Take care<br>-=James
Glad to hear you can get the book. Be sure to
pick up book with blue cover since the red cover is
for Northern NJ.<br><br>Thanks for mentioning the
book on Scotch Plains and Fanwood. Sounds like
something I'd like to read. So far I've read a bit of the
history on www.visitscotchplains.com and I had planned on
finding out more. Thanks.<br><br>Take care<br>Trish
I checked Amazon, and there is a 4-6 week
backorder to that ISBN...But it definitely exists and I can
walk into either of the local B&N's to find
it...<br><br>Amazon has a tendency not to have local books
available.... By the way Trish, there is a great book on Scotch
Plains written by one of Scotch Plains own - Richard
Bousquet... The name of the book is "Scotch Plains & Fanwood,
NJ" and ISBN: 0752402358 . It has some great pictures
of the town in the early part of the
century...<br><br>The books profits go to the Historic Society of
Scotch Plains & Fanwood..Theres a previous message on
the board when he was honored with "Richard Bousquet
Day"... <br><br>Richard Bousquet KNOWS Scotch Plains....I
chat with him every so often to help with the
ScotchPlainsNJ.com site and he always has some cool
stuff......<br><br>Take care<br>-=James
James<br><br>Exact title is "The Network to Home
Repair and Decorating Services" by Ellen Laird and
Barbra Brunhouse. It is the NJ Central Edition. ISBN#:
0-9660791-0-8. This might help you locate it.<br><br>One of my
friends who loved my book was able to locate it in Barnes
and Noble. Give them a try first and meanwhile I'll
see where my gift-giver purchased it. Catergories in
the book include wallpaper hangers, fabric cleaning,
painters, electricians, gutter installation and repair,
etc.<br><br>Trish
Hi Trish, Thanx for the info...<br>"Home Repairs
and Decorating services for Central NJ" ? That sounds
like a great book to have....<br><br>I looked on
Amazon and i didnt see it..Might you be able to find out
where your gift-giver found it?<br><br>Thanx<br>-=James
Jim<br><br>Received a wonderful gift last week.
It was a consumer recommended listing book to Home
Repairs and Decorating services for Central NJ.
Especially for a newcomer like myself this is extremely
valuable.<br><br>Thought I'd list some of the names under the handypeople
category:<br><br>Tru-Handyman 908-537-9202<br><br>Willy N REnovations
908-298-8137<br><br>Jobs by Patrick 732-381-9743<br><br>Benninger & Sons
Odd Jobs Co 908-232-8084<br><br>Hope this helps. I
haven't had an opportunity to use these services
yet.<br><br>Trish
James<br><br>That is useful information. I'll have plenty of empty boxes and
styrofoam peanuts when I'm done with the move. Good to know that someone else
is willing to re-use them. <br><br>Trish
Does anyone know of a dependable handyman in or
around town? I need a bunch of small to medium things
done (doorbell fixing,putting in sink
fixtures, etc).<br><br>I should be able to do these things myself, but I
am all thumbs when it comes to that
stuff...<br><br>I tried looking at the Suburban and other papers
that get thrown on my driveway, but i either get
"sorry we're too busy" or companies where I can see why
they arent too busy - ridiculously hugh prices, nasty
attitudes, etc.<br><br>Any help would be
appreciated.<br>-=James
Trkk908, glad to hear your carpet cleaning
experience went well.. Your message about packing boxes
reminded me something..<br><br>You know those packing
peanuts that are a real nuisance when they fly out all
over the floor as you open a box that you just got
from ebay (and i get quite a few)? They are a real
hassle to throw away - The Scotch Plains recycling staff
do not accept them, and they take up a whole lot of
room in the garbage bags.<br><br>I was in the local
Mailboxes Etc on Rte 22 (across from Bowcraft), and I saw a
customer giving the owner 2 bags of the stuff.. I was
curious so I asked Rod(the owner) about it..<br><br>He
said that he gladly accepts it because he does use
(and re-use) a lot of it in his business. He doesnt
pay anything to you if you bring it in, but its handy
having a place to get rid of the stuff.<br><br>I think
he accepts other type of packaging (ie the air puff
things that Amazon uses), but you may want to call first
just to check (908-301-1900).<br><br>Hope this helps
some of you.<br>-=James
Thanks for the carpet cleaning information which
I asked about a few weeks ago. Did give them a call
to find our pricing and cleaning methods. Ended up
using Gaylord Only from Westfield and they did a
fantastic job cleaning the carpeting. Now it is time to
pack the boxes and move my furniture in the new home.
Thanks again.
Howdy everyone...If you've read the messages here
you know that ScotchPlainsNJ.com is getting a
webcam....Well it is almost here....I have it in my office
looking out the window... <br><br>If you want to check it
out go
to:<br><a href=http://lanternmedia.com/lanterncam.htm
target=new>http://lanternmedia.com/lanterncam.htm</a><br><br>It will only be
there for a few days, so catch it
while you can!
Hi,<br><br>I've lived here for a long time but
know relatively few people in town. It's nice that a
group like this exists.<br><br>To fred in the UK: I
married a man from Sweden (yep, we met on the Internet)
so we know what it's like to be bi-continental!
Hey Leon,<br>You dont have to e-mail me the pix
to put them up here...If you go to "Photos" you can
add them directly there... I have some pictures, but
I have to develop them first....<br><br>VidCam
should be up soon... It is currently en route via
UPS....Once it gets here, it will take some time before we go
live (testing, pointing it at the right area, etc)..
But it should happen soon enough...<br><br>Take
care<br>-=James
They're predicting snow for Sat. (12/30) and Sun.
(12/31) - someone should try get some photos of the town
under a blanket of snow. Snow covered trees/streets
usually make for some good pictures. I'm not sure if I'll
get the chance to do it, but if I do, i'll email you
the pics and hopefully get them up on the
site.<br>BTW - I guess still no news about the Vid Cams?
It just may end up on the official township website (www.scotchplainsnj.com) as
the picture of the month.<br>Disclaimer: you do know it has to be clean right?
:-)
Thanks for the prompt reply. I knew this was the
right place to ask!!!!! I'll be sure to let everyone
know about my experience with the services. We are
looking forward to moving to your town. <br><br>Thanks
again
Hey LLeonLL,<br> <br>Sounds like you know someone
at the municipal building :-) Its not guaranteed
yet..Hopefully I will know more tonight at the monthly Tech Adv
Committee. I'll let you know if things go
smoothly...<br><br>-=JamesH<br>www.LanternMedia.com

Moving to Scotch Plains in two months. Need some
recommendations for services in town and figured members of this

recommendations on carpet cleaners and also for refinishing
hardwood floors? Thanks.

This is one of those "better late than never"
messages, but it should be noted that December 13th has
been officially made "Richard Bousquet Day" in Scotch
Plains...<br><br>As having the pleasure of knowing Richard, and being
helped tremendously by him in creating the

Richard!
Hi all,<br><br>We've gotten a nice writeup in the
Courier News of December 18th 2000! <br><br>The article
is called "The newest hangout in Scotch Plains:
Online". It is written by Bernice Paglia, and it appears
on page 1 of the Local (Union-Middlesex edition)
section under "Local Notebook"<br><br>Check it out.... I
checked the Courier-News website (c-n.com) hoping there
would be a link to the specific article, but there
wasn't :-(<br><br>I'm sure I'll find a link somewhere
though!<br><br>Happy Holidays<br>-=James
Welcome aboard! The clubs a bit slow in getting
started, but hopefully as the official website gets
started, more and more people will start dropping
by....<br><br>If you have any Scotch Plains questions, feel free
to ask either in the club or through
e-mail...<br><br>-=Take care<br>-=James
