The Southern California Cartoonists Society (SCCS) is the San Diego Chapter of the National Cartoonists Society. The group was founded by Jim Whiting in 1987 and is the second cartoonists society formed by Jim which eventually became a subchapter of the National Cartoonists Society. Three meetings a month provide SCCSers with opportunities to interact for social, charitable and professional purposes. The evening meeting is usually held on the second Wednesday of each month and often features a notable guest speaker with credentials meaningful in the world of cartooning. The evening meeting can also take the form of a party, most memorably the annual kickoff party held the first night of the San Diego Comic Con.
