The Knowne World Aviculturists is a world wide, inter-kingdom study group within the Society for Creative Anachronism dedicated to researching and recreating the art of medieval aviculture: the keeping and/or breeding of companion birds, especially parrots. We are concerned with the history, care, and conservation of companion birds, both in captivity and in the wild, with members often involved in educational outreach towards those ends, both from within and outside of the SCA.
We are an open group of equals: anyone from any kingdom may join and we welcome those outside of the SCA to learn about SCA through us and become one of us. Chivalry towards all members, humans and avians, are expected at all times and indeed our charter defines avians as equal members.
Parrots, finches, canaries, doves/pigeons, and other ornamental/companion birds are all included in our membership and our focus of study, so come, be part of us, and learn more about them. Those of us with birds help each other with the day to day aspects of aviculture, so if you have a bird and just want to talk about your experiences with your birds, we are here to support you, teach you, and learn from you as well.
PHOTO: Here's Cuddles of Atenveldt getting some well deserved attention at the Festival of Grapes. Cuddles, one of the first to join this Guild, passed to Pure Land on June 20th, where in Period the Chinese teach umbrella cockatoos sit with Guanyin, learning wisdom from her, coming to earth to bestow Guanyin's wisdom to us. There was no finer Atenveltder than Cuddles, nor better representative of this guild. She was everything an umbrella cockatoo, a SCAdian, and an Atenveldter is supposed to be. She is missed.
