AI saw this post on another group I'm on and thought to pass it
along. I went there and checked it out. WOW they have a huge
selection. I just made a few purchases that I'm sure will have my
Hubby-to-Be mad at me...

And my eyeballs are about to fall out.
I listed books in the following categories ; Costuming, weaving,
needlecraft, illumination, calligraphy, vikings, architecture,
furniture and some books on the middle east. Some are auction style,
some are Buy it Now. Some are at Euro prices (discounted listings on
Ebay.ie that I took advantage of last week) but will sell to folks
the
equivalent in US dollars. Feel free to browse and if any take your
fancy, please bid early and often :)

Well thank you again. But its just "Gigi" I haven't been awarded the title of
Lady. But in anycase it really is my pleasure to help you out. Besides, we have
a lot of things in common.

Its one of the reasons the list was started...to help.
You might wish to contact someone locally who might be of better assitance. If
you don't know who that would be I'll help you hunt them down! Hehehehe

Good morning, all!

I don't object that Maria asked for prayers. It's a little off-topic for
the list, but I'll put it down to friendly chat, which is okay as long as
it doesn't overwhelm the list. And I think it's great that lots of people
will pray for her.

That being said, everyone who is going to pray, or not pray, for Maria,
pleased don't say so on the list. This list has *hundreds* of subscribers;
it's not a small community. If even 10% of the subscribers write back to
say that they're praying for Maria, we will all have very full mailboxes
and there will be very little discussion of the SCA.

I'm not trying to be hard-nosed about this. If you want to send an
encouraging message to Maria, that's cool, but please do the reply to her
private email address, not to the list itself.

Again, I'm not intending to be mean, just bowing to practicality when we
have a list with many hundreds of people on it.

Thanks!

Justin

All good. As I'm from the East, which I don't think has a youth rapier

I would think that, as long as there is a youth rapier marshall present,
that there would be no reason why he couldn't practice. Certainly adults are
not required to have their authorization completed before they can practice -
at practice is where they learn what they need to pass the authorization. But
I would think that having a youth marshall present would be important so
there is someone present who can teach him how the youth fighting works as
opposed to the adult if there are significant differences.

I would email Garnet Herald: Lord Christopher Harper or Cornelian Herald:
THLady Alheydis von Körckhingen, Co-submissions Heralds for Aethelmearc and
explain your situation. They should be able to give you their mailing
address.

Without seeing your submissions packet, it sounds like you have it together.

In most kingdoms what the processing heralds are looking for minimally is a
good faith effort to supply name documentation. It sounds like you did that,
if you supplied prints of the websites, particularly if they are ones you
accessed through St. Gabriel's website or the sca.org
<http://sca.org>website. (In fact, if you used the latter, then you
only need to cite the
address and date access – the name articles listed in the heraldry section
of the sca.org <http://sca.org> are on the "no photocopy" list.)

Most if not all kingdoms do have an internal review process for submissions,
usually called an Internal Letter of Intent to make sure that the
submissions that they send to Laurel are as good as possible – one thing
that is done at that point is to check and bolster (if necessary) the name
documentation. Once a submission reaches the Laurel Sovereign of Arms, it
goes through the same process again, this time with the help of heralds from
all the kingdoms of the Know World.

And, in your case, I know the name is fine and registerable and the heralds
should have no problem supplying any missing documentation if you missed
something.

Be of good cheer,

Cateline

PS: If you want to send me links for your documentation off-list, I'll look
at them for you, if that will make you feel more comfortable!

such a scabbard? Thank you greatly for any help you can provide.

Well, wouldn't you know it. We find the SCA and then we have to
move. We are currently in Meridies (jacksonville) and are moving to
Atlantia (Virginia Beach). We have looked at the sites that SCA.org
linked to and we are a little worried that they are not as active in
Atlantia as they are here in Meridies. We were wondering how as we
are new to the sca in general. How we would make this transition?
(We are moving due to my husband in the Navy. A wee bit unavoidable)

Thanks a bunch for your help!

I think you're looking for the online Ordinary and Armorial
<http://sca.org/heraldry/OandA/index.html>. It's in the heraldry
section of the main SCA site.

You might also find some of the rolls of arms kept by various groups
interesting. My favorite is the one for the kingdom of An Tir
<http://badger.cx/heraldry/roll/>. Scroll down to the bottom of the
index page of that, and you'll find links to all the others of which
I'm aware.

Subject: Metal Scabbard With Two Rings

Greetings Folks:

I recently attended a Renaissance Festival where I purchased a sword. It
came with a metal scabbard. The type that has two metal securing rings. I
want to understand the why it was designed that way and how it was intended
to be worn. Does anyone know the proper way to wear such a scabbard? Thank
you greatly for any help you can provide.

Patrick,

Does the scabbard have one ring around the top and a second around a half a
foot down?

If I remember right the two rings are attached to a chain or cord and then
the chain/cord attaches to the belt.

Well, wouldn't you know it. We find the SCA and then we have to move. We
are currently in Meridies (jacksonville) and are moving to Atlantia
(Virginia Beach). We have looked at the sites that SCA.org linked to and we
are a little worried that they are not as active in Atlantia as they are
here in Meridies. We were wondering how as we are new to the sca in
general. How we would make this transition?
(We are moving due to my husband in the Navy. A wee bit unavoidable)

Thanks a bunch for your help!
Melissa

Melissa,

Welcome to Atlantia. Virginia Beach is part of the Barony of Marinus
(http://baronyofmarinus.org/index2.asp) As for transferring membership, just
put in a change of address at http://www.sca.org/members/registry.cgi. If
you have any questions just contact me at twhite1181(@)earthlink.net

Otto
