2. Salsa Series Begins this week. Join from the beginning to learn fast.

It's always a good idea to join the "series" if we want to learn faster and
efficiently. You just don't improve if you rely on one-time class or keep
changing your instructors.

Most of "series" aka progresive classes begins in the first week of each month.
So start this week! It takes only once a week for up to 4-8 weeks only. That's
only 4-8 classes! You will be walking out of the studio, knowing that you did
learn something!

Hiya all,

This is another last-minute notice. (What's new? Ha ha!) I am going out to dance
to Santa Monica. Would you like to join me and others and possibly carpool too?

I've been in the mood of trying a new location, and here came a chance. This new
club is a cozy lounge, located near the water in Santa Monica. I was told that
the instructor Jared is fun and friendly. DJ Ricky is one of the hottest DJs in
the salsa community, so the music will be good. The venue is of smooth surface,
not wooden floor. Considering that the club is in the beach community, that's
actually good. The wooden floor exposed to beach weather becomes sticky and
makes dancing unpleasant experience. Some people bring baby powder to sprinkle
it on the dance floor, but that ruins other dancers experience and their dance
shoes too. But then I digress.

2. Need Your Support! Sat. May 17: Free Casino Rueda Classes in Newbury Park

Please come for free Casino Rueda (Cuban style salsa) classes while supporting
the street fair benefiting local high school music department and promoting
local dance studio too.

There will be dance exhibits, farmers' market, kid zone, carnival, rummage sale,
street vendors, arts and crafts booths, live music and a swap meet. So it will
be a lot of fun!

YOU WILL LEARN AND DANCE:
Casino Rueda - it's Cuban style salsa, danced in circle. You can dance it as a
couple or in a group. It's a lot of fun!


SCHEDULE:

Classes: 20 minutes each, 10:30 am & 1 pm.

All the classes will be beginning/novice level.

During breaks we will keep dancing. If we have enough people after all the
classes, we will keep dancing again! So if you are familiar with Casino Rueda,

ABOUT STREET FAIR:
School Street Fair: the Newbury Park High School Panther Band will sponsor its
second annual street fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., May 17 at the school, 456
Reino Road, Newbury Park. The fair will feature a farmers' market, kid zone,
carnival, rummage sale, street vendors, arts and crafts booths, live music and a
swap meet. The event will benefit the Newbury Park High School instrumental
music department under the direction of Dennis Crystal. The bazaar is produced
by the Panther Band Boosters. For information, call Sandy Gross at (805)
4997790.

NOTE: I am planning on Casino Rueda project in San Fernando Valley and Thousand
Oaks. This is going to be a great opportunity for you to have a taste of what
this dance is. So please come take both classes!

This Styling & Shine Boot Camp is designed for both ladies and gentlemen – or,
leaders and followers. Couldn't you use shine/footwork and styling in your
dancing?

This is a 6-week, 12-hour styling & shine series jam-packed into 4 hours. We

We will start with the basic body movements and foundational school figures on
which complex yet saucy shines and styling are built. We will go over techniques

We are going with a small group to a salsa dance club in Los Angeles/Santa
Monica this Saturday, March 1. Care to join us?

Please email me back and say "yes, I will join the group this Saturday!" Please
let me know if you need a carpool or can offer your passenger seats, how many
people are coming, and what area you are coming from.

I will mediate carpools, place to meet, early dinner (if you want to have dinner
with us), etc. It will be fun!


+ Early dinner somewhere in San Fernando Valley or near the club at 4:45 pm

+ Carpool: happy to connect you all! If you are coming from Ventura County, Simi
Valley, the San Fernando Valley, we are meeting at my home or near my home (101
& Valley Circle Blvd).

We are speculating a couple of places: one in Santa Monica or another one in Los
Angeles. Cost is $10-15. Or less if the venue is willing offer us something as a

This is a reminder that we are having a 3-hour Casino Rueda Boot Camp with
Kimiko Simpson of Rueda Madness this weekend at the Salsa Monthly at Club
Promenade. Kimiko Simpson is the director of Rueda Mandess, Casino Rueda group
in Orange County. Their energy is high and the class fun! You will not want to

have not tried Rueda before, it's time that you did!

Also, there will be 3-hour Salsa Boot Camp concurrently; we will make your body
perspire and head spin! (Oh yeah, you will learn various turning & spinning
techniques too; not the head-spin, though). You will learn shines (footwork),
partnering techniques and patterns. And you will be drilled with not-so-basic
basics that are crucial to move your dance to next level!

I have been putting together several movie clips of Salsa and Rueda recently.
But then dancing being my hobby, I've been preoccupied with other stuff that
helps me pay my bills. :) I promise I will send those clips out to you soon.

Meanwhile, I hope you will come to one of the Salsa dance party that I host.
This month, Espie (Rumba Rica), Jay (Salsa Extravaganza) and I will be teaching
3-Hour Boot Camp! If you have taken my classes before, you know how my classes
are; I will give you as many practical stylings and techniques as possible while
making you perspire! So bring your dancing shoes and extra clothes to change.

Hi all,

This festival is "absolutely free." You may not be a Salsa dancer, but who
cares; here's a great chance to take classes, see performances, and enjoy your
weekend.

There will be classes and performances by local salsa celebrities and
performance groups. The director of Palm Springs Salsa Extravaganza Jay Byam
will be teaching intermediate class at 12:15 pm, so check him out.

It's not clear in this announcement, but the date is this Saturday, Sept. 22. I
don't know where Ortega Park is, so you will have to look it up. If anyone knows
it, please email me by Friday with addresses, etc. and I will send it out.

ABOUT JAY BYAM

Jay Byam has a degree in music and is a certified dance instructor with the
Golden

State Dance Teachers Association and a certified dance judge with the UCWDC. He

has been involved in the music and dance world for the past twenty years and

teaching for the past fifteen.

Based in Ventura, California, Jay teaches classes all around the U.S. and
Canada. He

has been referred as "Teacher of teachers," providing programs to teachers and

those who want to get better in their dancing. He also enjoys teaching special

workshops in Swing, Two-Step, Timing, Rhythm & Phrasing, Teachers Training,
Salsa,

West Coast Swing, Lindy, Jitterbug and Lead & Follow Technique classes.

In 1992 Jay created the Swing'n Dance Championships Dance Camp and the Summer

Dance Camp.  He is also the director and owner of world famous Salsa
Extravaganza

and the West Coast Casino Rueda Congress.  His past directorship includes the

Northwest Regional Swing Dance Championships in early 2000.

In his spare time Jay enjoys fishing in Baja California and free-diving of his
small boat at

the Channel Islands just off shore form his home in Ventura.

A heartfelt thanks to Zeanie and Patricia for managing our rapidly growing group
in Santa Clarita, which has jumped form 21 participants in our first meeting to
31 already, so smoothly. Compare Meeting I to Meeting II.  Thanks to everyone
having fun with us- we are hoping for 40 next time.

After last Sunday's Rueda in the House, we met at The House for some indoor
dancing. Thanks Patricia for Tambores, Zeanie for Bachata and coaching, and both

3. Rueda in the Park this weekend

Remember: Rueda in the Park - Los Angeles is on the 1st and 3rd Sundays at the

4. Dancing in Santa Clarita Valley

I strongly recommend that everyone takes classes at the dance studios. It will
help  you pave the basics of partner dancing and learn styling and techniques
that you  cannot learn at the club classes or free classes.

(1) Vibe Dance Studio, Valencia
They mostly teach ballroom. Mike Donovan is a ballroom instructor at Vibe Dance

(2) Hot Yoga Valencia
They are not exactly dance studio but do have Salsa classes. For more info,

It seems that I may be hosting, teaching, and/or promoting Salsa classes in the
Santa  Clarita again. More information to come.

5. Monthly Salsa Potluck Party - This Saturday

Every month we have dancers coming from as far as Santa Barbara and San Diego to
the Monthly Salsa Potluck Party in Irvine! Jay and I cordially invite you to

2. Audition Call: Llego el Sabor

Isabelle is calling all advanced dancers to join her dance company:
Llego el Sabor!

When:    Sunday, February 4th from 2:30pm - 5:00pm
Where:   1334 Lincoln Blvd. (between. Santa Monica & Wilshire Blvd)
               Santa Monica, CA  90401

If you have a burning desire to develop into a great dancer and an accomplished 
performer with a sexy attitude then,  "LLego el Sabor" Dance Company may be the 
team for you. In our dance routines, we use mainly Salsa and Mambo and we 
incorporate acting skills with Jazz, Argentine Tango, Flamenco, Belly and Modern
techniques to create an enjoyable, diverse, and saucy show.  I am seeking 
enthusiastic men and women to commit to this unique salsa team.


"Llego el Sabor" Objectives
The objective of our team of dance enthusiasts is to showcase our routines at 
National and International Salsa Congresses, as well as private events. The
immediate  goal is to be hired for pay as a performance group.  The ultimate
goal is to create a  small theater production to offer our shows for hire.

Requirements
· Must be willing and available to attend all rehearsals and most events
· Must be in good physical shape and flexible.
· Must have a friendly and cooperative attitude
· Must be able to pay for your own travel expenses (airfare & hotel) for at
least one  National Congress, as well as team expenses  (Video-music editing,
studio rehearsal  fees, costumes, shoes, etc.)
· Must enroll in the Level 4 class on Tuesdays from 8pm - 10pm; otherwise, you
will  be considered an alternate or understudy.  The only exception is you are a
Professional Salsa Instructor, then you only pay for rehearsal fees of
$50.00/month  for unlimited hours of rehearsal per month.

Preferences but not requirements
· Previous dance training (ballet, jazz, ballroom, belly dance, flamenco, etc.)
· Attractive / Good looks
· Acting skills


Rehearsal & Class schedules
Tuesdays, 8pm - 10pm Level 4 Company Class (technical exercises, partnering)
Followed by company rehearsal also on
Tuesdays 10pm - 11:30pm
Thursdays 10:15pm - Midnight    Rehearsal Only
*Additional Rehearsal would be on Sundays from 2:15pm - 5:00pm the month prior 
to a show if it is determined necessary.

Fees Special rate:  $150 per month (4 weeks)
This special rate includes unlimited classes for Salsa & Argentine Tango offered
at my  studio and unlimited studio time hours for rehearsing with the company or
by  yourself,  that would otherwise increase the overall cost of rehearsing cost
when  preparing for upcoming performances.

2. Rueda in the Park - Bellflower this Saturday 27 January

The Bellflower chapter of Rueda in the Park will have its first meeting this
Saturday, 27 January. I know it's quite a drive;

Every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. Juan and William are continuing the
RITP tradition in Bellflower. Juan will teach a beginning class from 10:30 a.m.
- 11:20 a.m. with a 10 minute break; and William will teach an intermediate
class from 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. The location is John S. Simms Park in
Bellflower. There is an intersection that is really close to the back entrance
to the park. It is on Ardmore and Belmont Streets. There is a church on that
corner.
