Hi All:
This morning I watched as two pairs of kites interacted at Lake Los
Carneros. Pair #1 is the one that's traditionally nested in one of the
conifers southwest of the dam, and the female was observed carrying nesting
material to one of the trees there. The male was attentive, to say the
least :-)
Pair #2 (which did the same last year, although the nest was abandoned)
has set up nesting in the top of an oak tree on "the island" portion to the
northeast of the dam. I saw the female on a nest in the top of one of the
Ca. Live Oaks there and the male was perched nearby. Easy to see that nest
from pretty far away.
On the lake, a male Canvasback was about the only species of interest.
