Sacrificing a priceless landscape
Comments (0) Print Article
Dear sir - President McAleese, in her recent speech at Arizona State
University, referred to the boom years of the Celtic Tiger.
She said: 'We clearly have come from quite unbalanced times and they
have not been able to secure for us the kind of peace of mind, peace
of heart, contentment that we would have wished for.' She also
stated: 'I think that we have paid a very, very big price for that
very radical shift.'
The sacrificing of the landscape of Tara to the M3 motorway, I
believe most clearly symbolises those unbalanced times and decision
making processes. Given that so many cultural and archaeological
experts from around the world have continually referred to Tara as a
priceless landscape, 'the very, very big price' President McAleese
refers to, does not even begin to estimate the true cost of such a
cultural loss.
