Bigshell Wetland at the SE corner of Beach and PCH is in the process of being drained by Orange Couny PF&RD, with the connivance of the Army Corps of Engineers.
Rick Allen, who claims to be Project Manager, is helping destroy this wetland and kill crabs and the habitat that supports birds and the myriad web of life upon which we all depend.
Call Rick Allen, 714-567-7800 (FAX is 714-567-7813) and ask him, or his stupervisor, Gerald Schubert 714-567-7795, to please not destroy the helpless creatures and drain all the water away. Project Compliance Manager Phil Jones, 714-834-2599 should be informed of the destruction, and asked for help. Please see "Links" to their email.
Ask Supervisor Jim Silva for help, he's at 714-834-3220.
This delineated wetland should be protected by the Coastal Act, the Clean Water Act, and other laws. Still, Orange County insists on destroying it, claiming that their Coastal Permit was approved -- in 1987! Things are different, now, this wetland is much more rare and wonderful.
Help expose the destruction, and help bring the O.C. so-called Planning Department into compliance with the law -- and the rest of us.
Join the fight to restore muted tidal salt water flow! The birds, frogs, crabs and other creatures deserve it!
Please see pictures in the photo section for before and after the destruction. Please call Orange County Supervisor Silva, who is running to replace Assym. Tom Harmon, and call H.B. City Council member for support.
More pics will be on www.ORANGE-COUNTY.net/bigshell
