The Silver San Juan Division is organized under the auspices of the Rocky Mountain Region of the National Model Railroad Association. It serves the southwest section of Colorado and the northwest section of New Mexico including the towns of Dolores, Durango, Cortez, Bayfield and Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and Farmington, Bloomfield and Aztec, New Mexico.
The purpose of the Division is to foster the growth of model railroading in the Four Corners area by bringing together model railroaders and those who might be interested in the hobby, to exchange ideas and to see what others are doing. In addition, the Division promotes membership in the Rocky Mountain Region and the National Model Railroad Association.
The Division meets in Durango in the fall, Farmington in the spring and rotates a summer meet between Bayfield, Cortez and Pagosa Springs. The general format of the meeting is a social period, "show & tell" (where members show their latest projects), an educational program typically in the form of a clinic or historical video, and a tour of local layouts. We are lucky to have layouts from N to G to 2 ½” scale so participants can experience the breadth of model railroading. In addition to the regular meets, the group has had meets at members' 7 1/2" gauge railroads where the whole family can actually ride trains. Special excursions are held to explore the rich railroad history of the area, do some "railfanning", and we periodically tour the yard and roundhouse facilities of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge RR.
