Description
Sangstream is an Edinburgh-based Scots folk choir. It is open to all, and meets once a week (during school terms) on Thursday evenings from 7-9 pm, at the Boroughmuir High School in Viewforth. We also arrange sessions outside the school terms - get in touch for details.
Sangstream's aims are to be:
- a friendly and fun place open to everyone who has an interest in group singing to take part and to develop their skills with the help of an experienced singer;
- a group which provides the opportunity for people to learn about and to share Scots songs and traditions;
- a group which can carry these songs out into the wider community.
We've now grown to nearly 50 members, which we reckon is just about the maximum number that we can currently accommodate. But interested people are welcome to come along anytime for a taster session.
The group was founded in 1997 as an offshoot of the Adult Learning Project (ALP) Scots Music Group. It became independent in 1999, but remains affiliated to SMG.
Mairi Campbell has been our musical director since September 2003. Prior to that Jenny Clark was our MD for 3 years to June 2003, having taken over from founder Christine Kydd.
We also run open sessions each year during summer months, starting around mid-July to mid-September. Check our calendar or our web site for details.
