We're pleased to announce that the TWENTIETH Dracula's Ball event
(how time flies when you're immortal!) will take place on Halloween
(Thursday Oct. 31st) at Egypt Nightclub in Philadelphia, a fabulous
location for a Ball. It features a number of different rooms,
including seating areas for those who need to rest a moment, which
means we'll have three DJs playing in different spaces at the same
time. The decor, as you might imagine, is full of sarcophagi and
similar ancient fare - Anubis himself would be impressed. Although
it's full of history, Egypt is not historically certified, and hence
smoking is allowed anywhere you like. Egypt is one of the jewels in
Philadelphia's nightclub crown, so please join us as we explore it
for the very first time. Egypt is located at 520 N. Columbus Blvd. in
Philadelphia (N. Columbus Blvd. "becomes" Delaware Avenue at some
point, so if you're on Delaware Ave, you're close!)
To celebrate our twentieth Ball, we'll be giving away thousands of
dollars in prizes, and you still have a chance to win! Our grand
prize, of course, is a round trip for two to Transylvania, courtesy
of our sponsors, Austrial Airlines and the Romanian National Tourist
Office. Explore the splendor of natural countryside, the majesty of
the Carpathian mountains, forbidding Dracula's Castle, and the
shopping frenzies fueled by an exchange rate that is *very* friendly
to Americans. We'll have other great prizes as well, details of which
will come to you in a few weeks.
The drawing for all the prizes happens at midnight, so please get
there early to ensure that you have time to enter the contest one
more time! If you show up at 11:50pm, odds are that you won't have
time to enter the drawing...so plan accordingly!
We plan on taking advantage of Egypt's spaciousness with a truly
impressive pool of DJ talent. DJ Marcel is one of Europe's leading
dark music DJs, and he's coming in directly from Amsterdam to spin
for us! Short of visiting Europe yourself, you won't have a better
chance to find out what's hot in the European underground club scene
than this. DJ Cypher is a familiar face, making his third Ball
appearance, and in many other places as well, having played in clubs
from LA to NYC. Given our surroundings for this event, and the date,
we felt that his talent for combining danceable gothic music with
mystical sounds and world music would make a perfect mix for a
magical evening. DJ Luminal has been a fixture of the Philadelphia
club scene for years, known for his passion for electronic music.
Fans of synthpop, industrial, and techno that's actually *good* are
sure to enjoy his sets. DJ Damzelfly hails from Michigan and
approaches DJing as an art form, striving to create something
beautiful. Her ethereal-gothic Mona Lisa *does* smile, though, as
she likes to slip in some gothabilly and new wave tracks for spice.
In the two years since their last Dracula's Ball appearance, Tapping
The Vein have continued their upward climb through the cutthroat
music business. Their debut full-length album was released worldwide
earlier this year on Nuclear Blast Records, and this past summer saw
their European debut at the Zillo festival, where they played for a
crowd of thousands on the same stage as The Cruxshadows and The Cure!
This is also the band's first all-ages Philadelphia show since late
Spring. Their powerful blend of hard rock, goth, and alternative
music fronted by formidable female vocals is required listening for
the modern music fan, and we are very pleased to have them back with
us.
Picking bands for the Halloween Ball can be tough, but choosing
Vasaria was easy. Who better to play on 10/31 than a band heavily
influenced by horror movies, whose lead singer has appeared in a few
B-movies himself and has even starred in his own comic book? If the
lack of a Type O Negative Halloween show has your goth/metal
crossover addiction in full swing, have no fear. Vasaria's debut
album on Century Media proved them more than capable of satisfying
fans of both genres, with a sprinkling of Misfits-style horror for
flavor. This is Vasaria's first appearance at the Ball.
We are still finalizing our list of vendors (including some new
faces!) as well as some other details, but of course we'll bring you
news of that in the next week or so.
Tickets for the Ball go on sale Wednesday, October 9th. They are $13
and can be purchased online or in person from Ticketmaster, although
considerable service charges may apply. For tickets purchased in
Philadelphia at Digital Ferret CDs (526 S. 5th St. -- 215-925-9259)
there is no service charge other than fifty cents per ticket if
you're using a credit card to pay. Admission at the door will be $15
subject to availability.
Egypt offers more room than our location last year, and the ticket
window will be well-staffed to ensure the quickest entry possible.
As with every Dracula's Ball event, this is all ages to enter, but
you must be 21+ with proper ID to drink.
Costumes are welcomed and encouraged! Scary, sexy, silly - simple or
sophisticated - surprise us! And yes, we'll have candy. Tons of
candy. We'll be wantonly promoting the blatant abuse of sugar, so
don't worry about your energy level dipping.
Besides being the best Halloween party on the East Coast, we're very
excited that this is our TWENTIETH Dracula's Ball event. We're very
grateful for your support, and we hope you'll be able to join us for
this event.
