Sanguinarius News & Updates - 7 July, 2002
==========================================================

Hello, again, from Sangi-Land. It's time for the News at Night.

I hope everyone who celebrated Independence Day (in the USA) had a
safe and fun holiday. I enjoyed listening to all the fireworks
snapping, popping and booming outside around the neighborhood. No, I
didn't go to any fireworks displays. They hurt my eyes to have to
look at, and when I put on my welding glasses, at night, to watch
them, people around me tend to look at me funny (well, funnier than
usual, lol); the green tint screens out a lot of the colors, anyway.
I'm content with listening to them and visualizing them in my head. --
Heaven knows, I've seen quite enough fireworks in my life to conjure
up pictures in my mind that usually beat the real displays. :)

The previous weekend, my beau and donor got to visit me, which was
very nice, as I hadn't seen him in a long time. We had a good time
but he had to go back home too soon. *sigh* But, he's going to try
to come up and see me again later on this month, so that's cool. I
hope he can stay longer than a couple days...

OK, I'll quit babbling and get on with the newsletter.

Sarasvati's Sanguinarian Support & Information Pages

I am honored to announce that Sanguinarius.org is now the web host
for Sarasvati's Sanguinarian Support & Information Pages. Her site
is one of the best sites on the internet for and about sanguinarians,
and has lots of good information and resources, plus vampire fun and
entertainment, as well. Sarasvati is the creator of "Oh, Carolina!"
( http://www.stormpages.com/ohcarolina/ ), an online weekly comic
strip which deals with the life and (mis)adventures of Carolina Fola,
a sanguinarian who is just trying to go through life. I highly
recommend Sarasvati's website.

Sarasvati's url is now http://www.sanguinarius.org/~sarasvati/ -- As
this is a new location, not all pages may be uploaded yet, nor all
links working correctly. So if you come across something that does
not work as it should, be patient, as it will no doubt be remedied
shortly.

Reminder to Webmasters/mistresses: If you link to Sarasvati's page,
you will need to update your links to point to the new location. :)

Covica / Synod / Sanguinarium News

It seems that my resignation from COVICA has caused quite a stir
within the community, and a lot of changes seem to be taking place or
are in the works. My resignation caused a domino effect and several
other members subsequently resigned. I have seen quite a bit of
commentary on the whole COVICA / Sanguinarium thing, and I suspect
that there is probably a good deal more that has been said which I am
unaware of, both on the web and in private emails, and I'm sure voice
conversations as well.

"Buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, because Kansas is going bye-bye." --
Cypher, from _The Matrix_

Since I released my previous newsletter of 5th May, 2002, in which I
stated my opinions on some few things such as the Sanguinarium taking
over Pathway to Darkness ( http://www.pathwaytodarkness.com ) in more
ways than one, it was shortly thereafter announced that the
Sanguinarium would be separating itself from Pathwaytodarkness.com.
I assume the webmasters intend to restore it to it's former state, or
at least replace much of the content and information that was
stripped from it when it was purchased by -- Transylvania Imports,
those folks who bring you Vampire Wine. Surprise, surprise!
*cockeyed look* Yep, me too. I just checked at samspade.org. I was
under the belief that the Sanguinarium, or more specifically, Father
Todd, was the owner of the domain. So far, I haven't seen any
changes, but this could be because the person in charge of the
programming for PTD resigned from the Synod and House Sahjaza.

I checked at the Yahoo Group of COVICA recently, and the main page
stated then that it is basically a group limited to within the
Sanguinarium; I checked again just now, and the description has once
again changed: "This discussion list is for a small number of active
individuals and community leaders in the lifestyle vampyre
community. The goal is to organize the production of the Vampyre's
Almanac and secondly tombs of lore to provide informational
resources." The stated emphasis has shifted to developing the
Sanguinarium (specifically), and that which is within. But it has
also shifted to establishing the Sanguinarium everywhere possible;
even if it is just a "seed" in that area, they are staking claim to
the territory.

Furthermore, it seems that The Synod is taking over the role of
COVICA, which has pretty much dried up from what I can tell. What's
the Synod? From their site (
http://www.sanguinarium.com/synod.html ), it states, "The Synod is a
neutral administrative body that is dedicated to providing resources
for and regulating the Sanguinarium community." Sounds a little like
what COVICA was, but working within the Sanguinarium, rather than the
general vampiric community. There's more; go read it, if you're
interested.

I sense a lot is afoot. The Legacy link on the Sanguinarium's page (
http://www.sanguinarium.com/legacy.html ) has been down since
approximately the middle of May, and is allegedly undergoing changes;
the Sanguinarium's Scroll of Elorath has been updated again (it's
located at http://www.sanguinarium.com/elorath.html if you want to
look at it); both the House Sahjaza site ( http://www.Sahjaza.org/ )
and Father Todd's personal site ( http://www.FatherTodd.com/ ) are
either down or gone. So is the http://www.vampyregrimoire.com/
site. Of course, this may be merely due to the fluidity that
Sanguinarium-related websites tend to experience; they may still be
around, just in another location. I don't know. And Sunspot Designs
has quit carrying Sanguinarium "artefacts" due to customer complaints
of unfilled orders (
http://www.apocalypse.org/pub/u/hilda/ssd/sanguinarium.html ).

A lot of changes are taking place. Many real vampires are critical
of the "vampyre scene", and feel that it has little to do with actual
real vampirism or the vampire community, though it's being promoted
as such; various vampires within the community are calling for
changes and reforms. There are at least several Houses which are
undergoing restructuring and "renovations". While the Sanguinarium
is busy establishing Courts and elists all over the place, House
Sable Brahmin ( http://www.homestead.com/sablebrahmin/brahmin.html )
has broken off from the Sanguinarium, as have a few others that I
have heard about. As for what developments are in store for the near
future, we will just have to wait and see.

If anyone has any news or events they have planned and want me to
include the information in the next Sanguinarius News & Updates, or a
special announcement / time-sensitive release if it is before the end
of the month (you'll need to specify this), please send me the
information (who, what, when, where, why, etc.) in a brief write-up
to SangiVamp@...?Subject="News_Item" and don't forget to post
the information on the Events Calendar, dang it. *smile* That's
what it's there for!

let me know! ***

SITE UPDATES:

- Added a new section: State & Regional e-Groups for Real Vampires (
http://www.sanguinarius.org/e-groups.shtml ). This is a listing of
the state and regional real vampire-oriented e-groups, email lists
and online communities/clubs that I am aware of in the USA as well as
other countries. I am certain there are more that I have not found.
But, this should be a good start in enabling vamps to locate an
online group in their area or region.

- I added a page to my site for the Grey Ribbon Campaign which gives
information about preserving old and abandoned cemeteries from
destruction and "relocation". The url is
http://www.sanguinarius.org/graveyards.shtml -- I'm trying to help
raise awareness of this problem because the dead have a right to rest
in peace.

- Finally got the Link to Sanguinarius page up at
http://www.sanguinarius.org/linking.shtml -- This contains a variety
of graphics you can use to link to Sanguinarius.org for Real
Vampires / Sanguinarius: The Vampire Support Page, plus instructions
on how, for newbies.

- I got the WebRings page back up, which contains the webrings of
which Sanguinarius.org is a member. This is at
http://www.sanguinarius.org/webrings.shtml .

- I put the Vampire Book & Movie Store (
http://www.sanguinarius.org/store.shtml ) under the new
section "Shop", along with the VampFangs store (
http://www.vampfangs.com/show.cgi/Sanguinarius/index.html ).

- #Sanguinarius ( http://www.sanguinarius.org/~irc/ ) -- I have gone
over the pages on this site and updated some information and links.
Also, I installed the newest version of the JPilot java IRC chat
applet so people can chat in #Sanguinarius from the webpage, without
having to download any software, such as mIRC. All it requires is
MSIE 4.0+, Netscape 4.0+, and Microsoft VM for the java part. You'll
be asked to grant permission for your browser to download the
digitally signed java applet so you can connect (it's very small);
click "Yes". Yay! The JPilot chat applet is now registered!
Everything is kosher and official and no nag message. :D All thanks
must go to Pijavica (whose site is Soul of the Fallen, at
http://www.pijavica.com/ ), who contributed the amount neccesary to
register JPilot.

- Oh! Also, I have added a form at the bottom of each page on my
site to allow visitors to log in to the chat room (#Sanguinarius, or
a few others) and ask questions or discuss the page they're on;
there's also a link to the message board if they'd rather post a
message. It's not quite "LiveHelper", but it should do much toward
making the site more interactive and user-friendly. This form is not
included with the Real Vampire Directory or the Events Calendar, just
the main site.

- Added some more stuff to the "Problems Vampires Have" at
http://www.sanguinarius.org/problems-01.shtml .

- Added some fun to "Fun Vampires Have" at
http://www.sanguinarius.org/vampfun-01.shtml -- I know vamps have
more fun than blondes, so send in some of the fun things you've
gotten into or done being a vampire.

The Vampiric Community Message & Support Board (
http://www.sanguinarius.org/forums/ )

When I had some unresolvable problems with the YaBB script which
powers the Vampiric Community Message Board after I moved my domain
to a new host, I switched to a different script which worked a lot
better. At that time, I intended to make the YaBB board read-only,
no new posting. I thought I did, but I'd set it in maintenance
mode. What I didn't realize was that as an admin, *I* was still able
to view the board normally, but nobody else was. I have corrected
this error. The YaBB version of the message board is once again
viewable, but any new messages will need to be posted on the VCMB at
the location listed above (it's an easier url to remember, too).
Sorry about the hassle, folks! Rest assured that I have no intention
of moving the VCMB around or switching scripts again.

The message board currently has 96 registered members!

I am looking for knowledgeable and helpful board regulars who are
willing be forum moderators and check a forum or forums at least
every day or so, and answer questions, start topics, keep topics on
track, and make sure trolls and rude people don't leave their mark.
If you are a VCMB board regular who is knowledgeable and willing to
help out in one or more forums, please send Sanguinarius (NOT Admin)
a private message on the board to let me know you're interested in
helping out.

Note: Those who register will need to provide a valid email address
in order to receive notifications of replies to their posts (if they
choose that option on a post), recieve their password by email, etc.
I will not spam anybody, nor will I sell, trade or otherwise
distribute their email addresses to third parties.

The Real Vampire Directory ( http://www.sanguinarius.org/cgi-
bin/links/pages/ )

I am behind on processing the sites in the directory, but I will
eventually get caught up again. I've got all these projects...
*Sangi mumbles* I now only have 12 sites in the submission queue,
waiting to be checked out. If you've submitted a site recently, and
haven't heard anything from me, I'll be getting to this real soon.

Guidelines, Tips & Advice ( http://www.sanguinarius.org/guide.shtml )

- Added some information on the uses of Hydrogen Peroxide to Vampires
& Blood Matters: Sundry Advice.

- Also, added something about the newly awakened to Social Matters.

- Just a note to let you know to also check out the Vampiric
Community Message Board (see above), which has many tips and advice
archived in the messages, plus current discussions with lots of good
information.

* * *

New Articles ( http://www.sanguinarius.org/articles.shtml )

- Added "Negotiating the Vampire: Conflict Resolution in a Usenet
Newsgroup". Essay by Kristina Day / Thornleaf, about the flame wars
in the alt.vampyres newsgroup which eventually led to the formation
of alt.culture.vampires, a newsgroup geared toward real vampire
topics. (Added: 3 May, 2002)

- Added "Blood: How Much is Too Much?" Article by Ravena discusses
how much blood a person can safely lose and what health issues blood
drinkers and their donors should be aware of. (Added: 1 July, 2002)

More articles on the way, so stay tuned.

Sanguinarius: The Vampire Support WebRing
http://j.webring.com/hub?ring=vampsupport
http://www.sanguinarius.org/vampsupport/vsring.htm

I have recently found out that Yahoo no longer controls WebRing.
WebRing has moved back to it's old URL ( http://www.webring.org/ )
and restored some of the functionality that Yahoo stripped from it.
So, I went back into my webring and did some maintenance and checked
the sites in the queue and those in the ring. I had to suspend (not
delete) a lot of good sites because I could not find the webring code
fragment that will allow The Vampire Support WebRing to work on their
page. I emailed those I could about this.

If you have a site which once was a part of the Vampire Support
WebRing, or have a real vampire support or information site that you
would like me to consider including in my ring, please go to
http://j.webring.com/hub?ring=vampsupport and sign up.

Once you sign up, you will need to put the current webring code
somewhere on your site where it can be found easily by your visitors
(and me).
