For those of you who missed it...TOUGH!!!! The
nonagenarian still has it...amazing hardly describes the tone
of the show...If I had a dollar for every
praiseworthy epithet I could use, I'd be a rich man...but
we'll leave that for a rainy day...<br><br>Well, the
spectacle mainly figured songs from the CD "Calle Salud",
the ever classic - "Maria en la playa" ( please
excuse my pure spanish!! )and others...and further the
Buena Vista delicacies such as "Saboroso",
"Orgullecida" ( indefatigably MINE!!) and the "Chan Chan"
number which has become something of an anthem...and for
Afonso's ( my partner in crime for the Porto
peregrination!!) part "El camison de pepa" ( his preferido!!)And
to end the show, the encore was the undying
"Guantanamera"...hmmmmm...<br><br>I hope you lazy bums will make it to the
movie...which as Nuno has pointed out starts this friday...it
is a MUST-SEE!!!<br><br>Until then, Tchau e

screening of the movie: "Buena Vista Social Club"..by Wim
Wenders about the making of the CD that was
released...The movie starts on the 10th of September...and have
confirmed that it will definitely be playing at the
Monumental. From all reviews, read and heard, it is suppposed
to be a spectacular documentary on the lives and
times, especially surrounding the making of the album
with Ry Cooder, of the cuban legends that make
beautiful music...Also, incase of any further information
that makes this an attractive proposition; Wim Wenders
is the same director that made " A Lisbon
Story"...another fantastic movie and I wouldn't expect this to be
any less fantastic..( No!!..no one has paid me to say
this...am just getting carried away with my
enthusiasm...)<br><br>On another note, Thanks Nuno for posting, so
religiously, the details of events and parties; I personally
do like the Cuba Libre parties..although Amora can
be a bit of a pain for us un-'car'red folks to make

Lisboa...turns out out that it is not the case..though..please
inform me if any such event does occur...once again, it
was quite fantastic and unless I do find out that
Compay Segundo is playing in Lisboa...I'll make the trek

Dear Rahool!<br><br>I see that you return very
excited with the Concert in Porto. Last year they also
had these concerts (with Septeto Habanero and
others). Also last year those bands after Porto came to
Lisbon and Gave concerts in some bars here (Ritz Club).
It is possible that the same happens this year. I
will try checking this. If you have any information

Hi all,<br><br>Just got back from Porto...went
there for the Eliades Ochoa concert...was truly
amazing...though a little short ( hour and a half..) it was well
worth the train ride and 500 escudos it cost (
Yes!!!500 escudos!!!)...The version of "El carretero" from
the Buena vista CD made me fall in love with the
guajira all over again...what a resounding voice...and
beside his cuarteto originals from the "som de
oriente"(sp??) CD..he also did "Chan Chan"... quite
spectacular!!!!!!All in all a sweet and divine experience...for those
interested in this line of cuban music...Compay Segundo, the
man himself, will be playing at the same venue on
september 11th...your truly will definitely make..let me
know if any one else is interested...<br><br>My

"Africando" will be playing in Amadora next saturday (31st
July). No one interested in Salsa should miss it. They
are a great band of salsa. They singers are from
Senegal , and the rest of the musicians are from Cuba,
Puerto Rico, Etc..<br><br>People from our classes may
not know, but most of you have already danced their
music. One of their best songs is "Yay boy" (Used
frequently in the Casino Rueda classes).<br><br>Enjoy

Hi all,<br><br>Just got back from the Espasso
Latina Spectacle on Rua Augusta...It was spectacular.(
As usual..) And for those who didn't make...you
missed quite a show.<br><br>As is common around these
parts, it was a little late to begin,but every minute of
the wait was worth it...the beginning number by Bibi
and Pedro was breath-taking...It still amazes me as
to how those bodies move in such beauty...( Good
luck to the two for the upcoming World Salsa Congress
in Puerto Rico!) This nugget was followed by a
performance by the troop...a rather charming dance
sequence...And this was finally topped with the little lesson
session for the on-lookers.<br><br>I liked the general
format today...it was interspersed dance sequences and
intermingling instructors of Espasso Latina and the general
public. It seemed to keep things interesting all
along...<br><br>In my nerdy lingo, I give the afternoon in Rua
Augusta : TWO THUMBS UP!!!! A big Hurrah to the Troopers
:))<br><br>Viva Salsa !! ( That's all the foreign language skills
