ANANTAPUR: Finance Minister K Rosaiah clarified on Sunday that the Government was not organising Puttaparti Saibaba's 80th birthday celebrations.
He held a review meeting of the departments for providing facilities to the lakhs of visiting pilgrims, including many foreign devotees of Saibaba.
Rosaiah took pains to explain that it was the responsibility of the Government to create minimum basic facilities so that no devotee felt inconvenienced. Since many foreigners are expected to visit Puttaparti, the Government was obliged to involve itself in the arrangements leading to the celebrations.
It is a question of prestige of the Government in the comity of nations, the Minister said. The concerned departments would share the responsibility.
Minister JC Diwakar Reddy, N Raghuveera Reddy, J Geeta Reddy and SUDA chairman Kota Satyam participated in the review meeting.
