Configuring Safe Routes to School projects in rural areas is challenging. Many communities find it difficult to accommodate students who are spread across many small towns. Too often, these communities build super-sized schools that are accessible to the entire county by bus and car only. However, with a little ingenuity, there are ways to build a successful SRTS program in these communities.
