Finally getting around to this series - unfortunately, I'm starting with
Series 3 as that's what the library sent - I've watched 6 of the 9 episodes
so far, and while I'm enjoying them, they run a decided second or third to
other British series, particularly MIDSOMER MURDERS. The locales,
production values, plants and photography are gorgeous, the two stars
(Felicity Kendal and Pam Ferris) very watchable, but the scripts, despite
such names as Clive Exton and Peter Lovesey being associated with the show,
are decidedly second-tier (and often under-developed), as is much of the
dialog and acting. The bigger names must have been busy with MM. And I've
noticed that in every episode somebody says "Oh my God!" at least once. One
of the episodes, "Three Legs Good," is set in London's Regent's Park, and
put me a bit in mind of Rendell's THE KEYS TO THE STREET.
But as I've said, there are compensations, and I'll pursue the earlier
episodes when I've finished Series 3.
