Dear folks –
This is an unusual post. It is a composite of three
different Rug and Textile Appreciation Morning programs that Gordon Priestgave at The Textile
Museum, here in Washington ,
D.C. It draws on “rug
mornings” Gordon presented in 2005, 2006 and 2009.
As the post will say again, Gordon is a corporate lawyer who lives
in Baltimore ,
and who is an experienced, active collector.
The purpose of this email is to announce and convey to you the
link to a combined, virtual version of these three programs.
You can enjoy this program by accessing it on my blog using the
following link:
Either double click on the link itself or copy and paste it into
your browser and then hit “enter.” That will take you to the
“front page” of my blog “Textiles and Text.” The
“From Three TM “Rug Mornings” by Gordon Priest” post is
the first in red in the column to the right.
You are receiving this email message because your address is on
one of my lists of “ruggies.” If your inclusion is in error,
or you would prefer not to receive future messages of this sort, please write
me atrjhowe@erols. comand I will remove your name and address from my listing.
Sometimes these posts are mostly my reporting on the basis of a
set of notes taken for me, but in this case the comments are almost entirely
Gordon’s.

As I mentioned before this is Essa Bahadori design and the signature says
"Bahadori".

Regarding your enquiry about your beautiful antique 19th Century Malatya Kilim; I believe it certainly needs professional restoration and
needs it very quickly before it gets more damaged or even too late for a cost effective and preservation conscious restoration.
We are expert in restoring Anatolian kilims and have many solid references from international trade since 1991.
I can give you a free no obligatory quote for restoring your kilim in my workshop in Turkey, using recycled antique wool from similar aged Anatolian kilims, if you can send me some more high resolution images together with the measurements.
please also check out my website for more info about us and before-after images of our repair work: www.rugspecialist.com
also more info and just some of the antique Anatolian kilims we have in stock can be seen at:
I should like to ask for some help. I have a very nice antik Anatolian Kilim. I cannot decide if it is an Aksaray Kilim or probably Malatya Kilim. Please help me. Do you suggest me to repair it in Turkey or leave it as it is. The age is middle XIXth century or ?? Thanks.

Thanks everyone for their help in my last post "A Dardashti rug? "
I've uploaded a signature found on my rug, do any members recognize the name?
Gallery:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rug-fanatics/photos/album/751906304/pic/list
I'm still attempting to pinpoint the origin and weaver of this rug. Haghighi
photos I've seen do share resemblance to my rug, still looking for more
references to compare with.
thanks!
I really appreciate all the feedback and attention to my post, and so quickly. I
would have attached photos, but couldn't figure it out, duh.
There is a signature in the carpet, in corner, have not have added to my album
(but i've posted in other forum, see below).
Only the fringes are damaged/coming apart. other than that, in very good
condition. the valuation you've offered is considerably more than what i've
received on another post... http://forum.rugrag.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=733
...which is good news!!
Understandably its difficult to appraise any damages. anything additional i can
offer to help pinpoint the rug's origin?
thanks again for all the responses!

On July 19, 2009, David Zahirpour gave a
“rug morning” program at The Textile Museum, here in Washington,
D.C., on “Persian ’City’ Rugs, Old and New.”
David is a local rug dealer with a long-time
relationship with The Textile Museum and with its Rug and Textile Appreciation
Morning programs. Because of his background in rug restoration and
repair, he often mans rug repair demonstrations at various TextileMuseum
events.
The purpose of this email is to announce
and convey to you the link to a virtual version of this program.
The post is organized around
David’s listing of the major “cities” in which such rugs are
seen to have been made, and also treats his list of specific workshops in some
of them.
This is a post that takes advantage of
the fact that we can, in this medium, supplement the pieces actually shown in
the room, and I have done that, from both the literature, and from a 25-year
collection of rug auction catalogs that I have.
You can enjoy this program by accessing
it on my blog using the following link:
Either double click on the link itself or
copy and paste it into your browser and then hit “enter.”
That will take you to the “front page” of my blog “Textiles
and Text.” The “Persian ‘City’ Rugs, Old and
New” post is the first in red in the column to the right.
You are receiving this email message
because your address is on one of my lists of “ruggies.” If
your inclusion is in error, or you would prefer not to receive future messages
of this sort, please write me atrjhowe@...and I will remove your name and
address from my listing.

Hi, I agree Iain about the signature. I have a Daerdashti rug in my notes from Dr. Pat Doran's collection: http://www.persianc arpetguide. com/sw-asia/ Rugs/Persian/ Isfahan/Isf984. htm The signature is at the bottom of the first image. In a Dardashti I would expect a signature but also the level of quality of the best of Isfahan. Best wishes, Barry O'Connell

It does not look like a Dardashti rug to me. I have seen many of his rugs in many different places including his secured warehouse in the basement of his home in Isfahan.

Does the rug have a signature in the bottom of the carpet? It does not look like
a Dardashti rug to me, it looks more like Haghighi rug. The design is Essa
Bahadori design and as I know Dardashti does not work with Bahadori design. If

This blog is now exclusively dedicated to
providing virtual versions of some of the free Rug and Textile Appreciation
Morning programs that The Textile Museum here in Washington, D.C. offers a
couple of times each month.
If you use the link above to go to my “entrance”
page, you will see a column of posts in red on the right.
The first, three posts are about different
aspects of a presentation on “Afshar Weaving” by Austin Doyle and
Michael Seidman.
The fourth and five posts in this listing
are devoted to two parts of a previous presentation on the topic of “Rugs
101,” by Wendel Swan.
I hope there is something for you to enjoy
in these posts.
I encourage you to forward the links to
others whom you think might be interested in them.
Hi, can anyone help identify this rug? Beautiful silk handwork. Thanks.

You are not a professional carpet fotograph but the asmalik can be an interesting piece - this is the different shape carpet - and the other turkmen the Hacli is interesting because of the so called swastika border. That is all what can I see from your very professional carpet photos. i hope I did not hurt you. It was not my aim. And I am not a buyer for your carpet. Just I wanted to help you, Good luck. Agnes
WE JUST CLEANED OUT MY GRANDFATHER'S HOUSE AND WE FOUND THESE RUGS ROLLED UP IN THE GARAGE. I KNOW HE TRAVELED EXTENSIVELY THROUGH ASIA. BESIDES A FEW HINTS FROM A FEW PEOPLE, I HAVE NOT A CLUE AS TO WHAT THEY ARE. PLEASE HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SO I CAN START TO RESEARCH. I KNOW HE LOVED TO COLLECT THINGS, BUT I HAD NEVER SEEN THESE RUGS. I NEED TO KNOW THE AGE, ORIGIN, USE, HANDMADE? MACHINE? WHAT DO I DO WITH THEM??? ARE THEY VALUABLE? OR SHOULD I USE THEM ON MY FLOORS? ANY OF YOUR ASSISTANCE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. i SENT MY message and attachments directly to the owner/moderator of Rug Fanatics rather than posting it to the group as a whole. HE SUGGESTED THAT IF I could post it to the group, I would "undoubtedly get much greater feedback".
UNDER THE "PHOTOS" SECTION I HAVE PLACED 5 FOLDERS WITH PHOTOS. THEY ARE LISTED UNDER "apmueting". Please if you have a minute, can you look at them and advise me?
