Note to Prospective Members:
This Yahoo group will only be used to discuss topics related directly to our club. Our main events will occur on the 2nd 4th Fridays at 10:30. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE APPLYING TO BECOME A MEMBERSHIP AND REMEMBER THAT LURKERS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE.
Mission Statement:
We envision a purposeful learning community in which children can develop long-term friendships while learning about the environment, wildlife, and social issues and giving back to the community. We'll be using the Roots and Shoots model for success to help our children gain knowledge which, when combined with compassion, leads to action.
Group Description:
We're a group of concerned citizens with young homeschoolers who will guide our little ones and help them see that their actions CAN make a difference. While this Roots and Shoots club is geared towards younger children (8 and under), older siblings are always welcome! We'll be starting out with two meeting days a month but hope to eventually become an even more active "scout-like" homeschool club, complete with overnight camping experiences in addition to our co-op activities and service projects.
All parents will be asked to serve on a planning committee twice a year and will pay dues of $10 (per family) to help cover group fees. Also, it's important to note that the majority of our members are based in the Seminole County area and East Orlando, so most of our events will occur on this side of town.
Areas of Interest:
Animal welfare, Cleanups, Elderly services, Energy, Disaster Relief, Gardening, Habitat restoration and tree planting, Nature appreciation, Pollution, Poverty, hunger and homelessness, Reduce/Reuse/Recycle, Water, Wildlife and endangered species
If this group is full or doesn't meet your needs, there are indeed a few other Roots Shoots groups in the Orlando area.
