I may not have fully explained the process by which we can begin
collecting money and books for Phase 2 (books that have to be sent
from abroad). The easiest procedure will be for you to select the book
(s) you want to sponsor and then let me know. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SEND
ANY MONEY NOW. After receiving your selections, I will place the book
order and will let you know the EXACT price paid. Only then will I
expect you to send me a check.

A variation of the above will be if you place the book order through
an online service and have them send the books to my address.

I will periodically ship the books to Narendrapur. This will be
cheaper than shipping the books individually.

I hope this clarifies things a little.

It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that Phase 1 of our drive
to obtain Chemistry textbooks for the Masters course at our College
is now complete thanks to two very generous sponsors. I want to take
this opportunity to recognize Haripada (Chem'86, my batch) and
Abhishek (Chem'01)for their immense contributions which now make it
possible to send money to our College for purchasing ALL the
textbooks from the list that are available in India (total of
$342.45). It is indeed a proud moment for the alumni and our
teachers. Please extend your congratulations to Hari and Abhishek for

This means that we can now focus on Phase 2 - sending the books on
the list that are NOT available in India. The total cost of this

This email is long and contains a lot of information. Please spend
some time in reading it carefully if you are interested in
sponsoring books for the M.Sc course in Chemistry in our College.

I have finally received some additional information on the Chemistry
booklist from Arogyada and would like to share it with you. This
information, I believe, is enough for us to start our work in
generating funds or books to send to the Chemistry department. The
latest information on the books and their pricing are present in two
separate areas of the Yahoogroup – one in the Database section and
one in the Files section. The document in the Files section is for
viewing purposes only; the document in the Database section can be
edited by all of us.

The total cost for ALL books in the list is approximately $2300.
This excludes books for which I was not able to get a price. The
total cost of books available in India is approximately $300 (after
conversion from their Rs values).

There are 4 categories for the books on the list:

A. Books that are available in India. Arogyada, with the help
of the college librarian (Harida?) went through the booklist and
identified books that are available in India. In almost all cases,
these books are cheaper in India. Therefore it makes sense for us to
send the money to Arogyada so that the books can be purchased in
India.

B. Books that are not available in India. Here we have to send
the books from abroad.

C. For some books, I was not able to get a price from Amazon or
elsewhere. Some of you may have ideas about the prices – please let
me know

D. Some of the books in the list may already be available with
some of you and perhaps you were thinking about donating your books.
In this case, it saves us from having to pay for their purchase

Now we have to decide how to send the funds or the books to our
department. Our goal should be to send the money or the books in the
shortest possible time and without duplication of effort. Thus, we
need to keep each other informed on our actions, preferably by group
mails to this group. I can think of the following scenarios. This is
however open to suggestions and revisions:

Scenario 1:  In Phase 1, we send first the funds for purchase of
books available in India. The total amount needed to do this is
~$300 (US dollars). I am willing to send a check to Arogyada
covering the whole amount. You can then send me your contribution
and indicate to me which books (from those available in India) you
are sponsoring.Please go through the table in the database section
to identify the books you want to sponsor.
		 In Phase 2, we start working on the books that have
to be sent from abroad. You can choose to sponsor one or more copies
of one or more books. Once I hear from you on the books you are
interested in sponsoring, I will place an order for the books from
the cheapest source. I will then let you know about the total price,
including shipping and handling. You can send me a check for the
total price of your sponsored books. If there are multiple sponsors
for one book, then the full price will be divided among the sponsors

Scenario 2:  You may have some books (either belonging to the
list or not) that you want to donate. In that case, please let me
know the names of the books and the number of copies you are
donating. I will maintain the information in the database so that
everyone knows how much we have covered and how much more we have to
go). In this case, it would be easier if you can donate the books
directly to the Chemistry department (no need to send them to me).

Scenario 3: You can choose to send me a check without mentioning any
book in particular. I will then use the money to order the books as
appropriate and then let you know what books were ordered with your
donation. Shipping and handling charges will be included, if the
books are sent from abroad.


The booklist with all pricing information is maintained in the
DATABASE section of the Yahoogroup. You all have the ability to
enter your sponsorship information in the database. However, if you
are uncomfortable doing it, just let me know, and I will be happy to
include the information on your behalf. In that case, please also
let me know how you would want to be identified in the database
(your name, generic ID like Sponsor1, or some other id etc.). We
want this database to be a living document where we can track our
progress towards meeting the book needs of the department.

Hello Anirban,
I think, as soon we pass out from NDP, we are eligible to
attend the Re Union, and why not? NDP was also known as
"Second Home" to us. I passed out HS from NDP College in
July 1983, and I had come to attend Re Union all the way
from IIT Delhi and I did attend it. I enjoyed it, met lots
of friends and faculty.

Rabin-Da was our teacher in school, we have so many good
memories on him. It is so tragic.

ramakrishna mission in BA batch, 1997 - 2000 english(honours).i was in
gauranga bhavan and had a very enjoyable time at narendrapur.i still
get nostalgic when i remember those days.I hope staya maharaj is still
the principal and is in good health.my sincere respects to satya
maharaj, swami asaktanandaji, sri sati prosad maity(our head of dept.),
sir satyaki pal,sir DS chakravorty,sir sajal bhattacharjee,sir arya
ghosh, and the other most respected professors from whom i got

Two of our ex-students, are terminally ill.  We should do something
immediately on behalf of the Mahavidyalaya Praktani.  One of them,
Debjit Topadar of 2003 (Pass Out) is being treated at C.M.C. Vellore,
where he is in a state of COMA.  The other student Rajat Gorai, 1996-
98 (H.S.) after having completed his M.B.B.S. has been diagnosed as
suffering from blood-cancer.  Let us contribute our mite to offer some
succour and support in their hour of need.
