Roaring Jelly was formed in 1970, by and for musicians, veteran to novice, to develop our skills by playing Contra and Square Dance music. We sponsor and play for the comfortable, community-style 3rd* Friday Dance with Caller Susan Elberger, usually at the First Parish Church Hall, 7 Harrington Rd, Lexington, MA from September through our June Ice Cream Social. *September 2009 will be 4th Friday the 25th.
We are a democratically-run band of about 50 members led by Debby Knight. Most decisions are made by a vote of members at our practice sessions. Attendance is not mandatory, but sometimes a commitment will be asked for - to decide whether or not to accept a gig. Typically, 1/3 to 1/2 of the Band play at any time with a core of about 20 regulars. About 300 musicians have been in the Band, including many of today's finest in greater Boston and elsewhere.
Only Band members play at Dances. Come to our open Practices to decide about joining the Band at the Emerson Umbrella, 40 Stow St, Concord MA from 7:30-10 pm in Room 124 (Downstage) on most 2nd & 4th Tuesdays (September though the 2nd Tuesday of June). Tunebooks are available (one per member) for the cost of reproduction, current members receive free additions and updates.

We also play for some other dances (public and private), which along with member dues each season help support our Lexington dance and Band expenses, such as practice space, Tunebook additions, sound system and producing our CD.
We celebrated our 35th Anniversary and 1st CD Release Party in March 2006.
