Joe, the stuff I have seen would indicate that the album should have noticeably less compression than the CD and should sound better than the CD. There may also be a discrepancy in production quality between the US pressing and the European pressing. The US having more pops, clicks and surface noise. However, there is some difference of opinion on that.
That said, my experience with new vinyl (re-issues or recent artists' first pressings) is that I just have to listen to my specific copy. Some are excellent, while others are not worthy, and as far as I can determine there is no ryme or reason involved. Maybe production quality has always been up and down the scale, and I just never cared back when vinyl was king. Don't get me started though.
So, if you just can't wait to get the phono preamp come over and give your specific copy a spin on the system over here. I'm free again most weekends now that the holiday hubbub is over. Most weekends are good.

One thing I wonder about is how much compression was used for the LP mastering of Adele's first two albums . I have 21, but it's still sealed waiting for me to get a replacement phono preamp .

Joe, Don, Alan, agreed. The Blue Ray of A @ PAH sounds spectacular. Literally the day after hearing it at Joe's I snatched up a personal copy.
In addition, I guess I am used to all the compression they are using in pop music now days, and had not consciously thought about the impact it has had on Adele's CDs. However, now that you mention it I am realizing they rarely get spin time in my system. Compression may be a contributing subliminal influence on not playing the CDs as often as one might expect for an artist of her excellence. In contrast I play the Blu-Ray frequently.

Hi, Joe:

Thanks for sending the mini-concert of Adele.  I have both her albums, but they have lots of compression on them and aren’t really great audio quality.  The performance itself, is, of course, wonderful.
However, it you really want to hear how Adele sounds, pick up the Blu-Ray disc of her live concert at Prince Albert Hall.  It is recorded in uncompressed, mulit-channel audio and really sounds spectacular.  I think you would enjoy it.
Take care.

Thanks for the offer,Matt. I might take you up on that after I get over the Flu . And you're exactly correct-record quality has ALWAYS been all over the map . No logic to it ,except classical usually is better than the rest.I once read an industry insider that quality of product is not even in the top 5 considerations of the music Business.    Happy New Year !  Joe

Hey, Joe:

That is great news, but is it available here? Just like Verizon with their Fios
fiber optic network which is faster and offers more channels than TWC, it isn't
available in SA. Also, even when/if it becomes available here, what will it
cost? Usually faster internet means more expensive internet.

I have used ATT Uverse for both my television and internet needs for the past 5
years without a single problem from either service. They have a couple
different internet speed packages to suit your needs and budget. I currently
have their 12mbps package and cannot complain. I can stream HD video, surf the
web and even watch 3 HD signals at the same time. Another option would be to
look at Verizon FiOS, though their availability is sparse in San Antonio. Good
luck.

Hi guys,

Does anybody have an extra electronic crossover I can borrow? Since my Maggies
don't have the external crossover boxes, I'm going to bi-amp them using an
electronic crossover, Magnepan recommends high pass to the midrange at 250hz
and low pass to the bass at 200hz.

Thanks!

One of the speakers I bought from Bob Carver is the Genesis 350se system, which
at the time (around 2000?) cost $32,000 (of course Bob Carver didn't pay that
much, he got them directly from Arnie Nudell, I believe Arnie actually gave them
to him). Anyway, the new version of these speakers (they look almost exactly
the same, except for the woofers, but the same 15 ribbon tweeters and 48" ribbon
midrange, same basic shape) now called Genesis 2Jr, is doing its debut at CES
with a price of $80,000 dollars!!!!

Bob, and whoever else is at CES, please please please go to the Genesis suite
and take a listen, then come over to my house to listen, I'm very interested to
see how they compare! Of course they have around $300,000-$400,000 of equipment
to feed those speakers, but it will still be interesting to hear your opinion! .

Thanks!

Hi everybody,

As promised, I'll be hosting January's meeting at my house. I don't have a
specific theme other than listen to great music (bring your CDs and LPs!) and
show all of you my "new" speakers. It will probably be the last weekend in
January, but I'll confirm later and I'll provide more details (address, times,
etc)

I'll let you know in the next few days the exact date... stay tuned!

Hey guys, I've got a subwoofer I'm not using so I thought it would be best to
put it up for sale to see if anyone else might want it. This subwoofer was
built earlier in 2012 and sounds very good. It uses a 10" Creative Sound
Solutions (CSS) SDX10 and an Apex Sr. plate amp. The subwoofer uses XBL2 motor
technology for extremely low distortion. The plate amplifier uses variable
phase, variable EQ, and accepts high level inputs and low level inputs for
flexibility. It's output is about 375watts into a 4ohm load as to take
advantage of the subwoofer being 4ohms. All of this is in an MDF enclosure
wrapped with maple veneer. Here is a link to a few pictures of this subwoofer (
http://imgur.com/a/T99xN#4 ). Price is $250 picked up from my house on the NE
side of San Antonio. Feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks,
Steven Z.

Hi Ulises,

I just joined this group... and have to miss my first chance at a meeting. Going
to New York the last weekend of January. But there is a silver lining... I will
be picking up a box full of my Dad's old vinyl. Hoping some good treasures will
be there.

Hi everybody! January's meeting will be Saturday January 24th from noon to
whatever time the last person leaves. I'll order pizza and I'll have snacks,
please bring your favorite drink! Depending on the weather, I might also throw
something on the grill...

Email me if you plan to attend and I'll email you my address, phone, etc. (I
don't want to post it here since this forum is open to everybody). Or I'll ask
Bob or John to email my information to every RCA'S member.

I hope to see you all here!

I don't have a specific theme for the meeting other than for you guys to listen
to these audio treasures I got from Bob Carver, these are Bob's personal
speakers, which he used as a reference to design his Carver and Sunfire
equipment.

I'll have an all Carver system, which will include my Carver Black Beauties,
which just got The Absolute Sound award for high end tube amplifier of the year!
I'll also have a vintage system which includes McIntosh first ever solid-state
receiver (1975? I was 2 years old!) and a Pioneer turntable of the same vintage.
In the movie room I'll have a concert going and/or a 3D movie in the projector.

It will be fun! Please come by and enjoy an afternoon of listening to great
music and spending time with friends.

Ulises.

In the movie room I'll have a concert going and/or a 3D movie in the projector.

Hi guys,

During our last swap meet at Bob's garage I bought a set of 2.5 meter Choseal
speaker cables for $40 and it was a great deal! (Thanks Dave!) ... Now with all
these new speakers I need more cable. Does anybody has any more of that
speaker cable or other ones they'd like to sell? I don't want to spend hundreds
of dollars, so I'm looking for great deals like the one I got in the swap meet.
Thanks!

Ulises.

Thanks to one of our newer members, Kris, looks like I'll have the Magnepan 3.6
/ R operational for the meeting! !! I'm excited because I haven't been able to
listen to them and I got them almost a month ago!

Keep sending me your replies so that I know how many people to expect. I have
no limit, I'll have three different systems going so I'm sure we'll have enough
room for everybody.

Did I mentioned I'd have free pizza! !?? =)

Ulises.

Ulises,
Thanks
By the way, you asked about speaker cables. I have some new cables on order
coming from Italy for my main system. I will then move my cables from system 1 to
system 2. freeing up a pair of Morrow audio SP-1 cables. They are the older ones
that look like Kimber 8tc cable. I think I bought them on one of Morrows many sales
for about $80. You could have them for $25 and some pizza. I could bring
them over at the meeting or sooner if you want to try them. They are bananas at each and
I think about 8 or 9 feet long. Let me know
I also have some Goetz silver speaker cable but that is a $900 cable that I would need
at least $250 for
Alan

Hi Alan, Sold! The ones for $25+pizza =) please bring them to next week's
meeting, if you can. I know as I continue in this hobby I'll eventually get to
really want extra-excellent speaker cables and buy some $250 dollar ones, and
maybe one day further down into the future I'll be ordering my speaker cables
from Italy like you!! But for now I'll go for "really good and inexpensive"...

Out of curiosity, what speaker cables did you order from Italy and what makes
them special that you just had to have them and order them all the way from
Italy?

I still need more speaker cable so if anybody has any, please let me know.

Thanks!

Ulises,
I will bring them
I have ordered a pair of HighDiamond 8 speaker cable
They have gotten some great reviews and someone
on Audiogon had heard the 3 cables I was most interested in
and said the HighDiamonds were just extradinary. Glad you will have
the Maggies up and running. What are you using for a cross over?
Alan
