Tsalagi Moor response to Cherokee Nation's Decision of March 3, 2007   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #462 of 621 |
Some of the People have been asking me what do I think about the decision of Cherokee Tribal Council last month, March 3, to kick out the members of a darker hue/color. Basically, they kicked out all of the Black Cherokees, or Tsalagi Moors is my term of preference.

In light of this action, I have posted some of my Cherokee songs at myspace.com/tchiyamet. I wonder if I will be fined for singing in Cherokee! Pay particular attention to the song entitled World Peace. This song was written when the Seminole Nation pulled the same stunt a few years back.

I have also posted the newsletter from Marilyn Vann of the Freedmen Descendants of the Five Civilized Tribes.

What do I think/feel/see clearly about all of this?
First off, it is preposterous (contrary to reason, absurd, ridiculous) to ask or demand of the oppressor to recognize your sovereign right to exist, especially when their main purpose is to eliminate you.

Second, the people running most tribal councils are hardly what I would consider native or Indigenous anyway. Once you have adopted the culture, religion, worldview, mindset, land distribution, educational systems, political structures, financial aid, practices of slavery (mental, economical, physical, spiritual)etc of your oppressor/enslaver, you have become closer to the enemy than to your own people. Especially when you have become federally recognized, you have become an accepted branch of said government, institution or nowadays, corporation. More importantly, when the main way of determining your heritage, roots, identity, nationality, bloodline, is by using the evil and dangerously corrupt so-called medical practices and technologies of the colonizer/enslaver/murderers/liars/thieves/corporate persons/medical industry/religious institutions, then you have become one of their targets as well as their guinea pigs for their laboratory experiments. There is really no way of telling what they do with those dna samples, or how the procedure effects us.

In other words, if the tribal council president celebrates Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the fourth of July, I would rather not be in that tribe in the first place.

Third, what makes this even more ridiculous is that the federal Government does not recognize this action, and so the federally recognized tribe is rejecting the decision of the federal government, who ironically introduced this whole slavery system to the Cherokee and the other civilized tribes in the first place. Whaddya think made them civilized? SLAVES, yes, owning slaves is what made these five tribes civilized, according to this Eurocentric Value System..

So, in light of these facts, the Cherokee Nation has done us a great favor. We can turn this around and make it a positive thing for our people. We could even call March Third our independence day. I realize that this decision affects many families that have been surviving because of this financial support system. But the only way we can be free is when we can sustain ourselves. I pray that this serves as a wake up call for the Black Indians that are not federally recognized; yet still living off of this government system. Remember, not too long ago, we were only considered to be 3/5 human. Not too long ago, we couldn’t ride on the front of the bus, or use the clean restroom. Or vote, not that that matters. What makes you think they can’t take these “rights” away from us?

What we really need to do is know more about the true history of this government, and about other explanations for how Black Indians came to be. We were here before Columbus. The Rocks ARE Crying Out. Black People were on this continent when all four continents were one continent. Many cultures have this aspect to their creation stories. All cultures stem from the original root culture of humanity. It is not even about who was first, or who did what the best. What matters is that we are one, and there is something that is common amongst the beautiful diversity that unites us. Why do people fear their Black Roots? Yet, at the same time, want to be Black so badly, they would rather replace us than respect us.

A few years ago, I made the conscious decision to stay away from the cultural  and spiritual genocide that I have seen going down in the world music, roots and culture movement. It is the dawning of a new day…..
