O'siyo!
This letter is a progress report and update on the Gathering of
Cherokees for the
purpose of discussing our unification as one People again, regardless
of
affiliation or non affiliation.
The hundreds of responses were overwhelmingly positive. Truly we have
the blessings of Creator God in this historic endeavor. For the first
time in centuries, the willingness to gather and discuss unification
is
a heart-warming reality.
The majority of people responding suggested the same thing in terms
of
where this historic event should take place. The Trail of Tears ended
in Oklahoma, so many felt this is where the Gathering should be held;
therefore, after due consideration, this Gathering will be held in
Webbers Falls, on the Arkansas River, from June 21-24th. Again, many
felt it important to have this be a four day event due to its
significance. Additionally, these days were selected to allow for a
greater participation by families with school-aged children.
A Gathering of this magnitude requires much assistance to insure its
success. Graciously, someone stepped forward to offer assistance with
the entertainment, but there are other things to consider: Food,
qualified medical people, security, and so on. While the mayor of
Webbers
Falls has offered to try to secure food vendors, there will be a need
for more, as
well as people to address these other things. If you or your group
would like to assist in any of these areas, please contact me as soon
as
possible so I can continue fine tuning this event. I believe Creator
God has
set this entire thing in motion, and I also believe He will provide
the
necessary
people to fulfill the needs and requirements.
Although the Cherokee chiefs and leaders will be involved in meetings
to discuss unification, there will be plenty of opportunity while
these
meetings are
in progress for those in non leadership positions to mix, mingle and
meet their
relations in the Webbers Falls campground which is reserved
exclusively
for our use on those days.
Campground and lodging information in the area will be forthcoming in
a
future
progress report and update.
I would greatly appreciate your forwarding this letter to all persons
of Cherokee heritage known to you and inviting them to join us.
Wado,
